Great tutorial. I couldn't resolve the failed to validate sketch issue after the final pocket to take the pizza away so cheated by performing another sketch and pocket to cut away the castellation. You make real sense at saving after every major alteration as my FreeCAD loves to crash more than Crashy McCrashyface. Anyway, onto the next tutorial. Thank you.
Thanks for doing these videos. I was able to follow this great little tutorial. When introducing a new feature or button I would suggest taking a little bit more time. I would also add a few trouble shouting hints at the end if possible. For example, I had to fix "Failed to validate broken face" before the revolve tool worked.
Really good tutorials, thanks for taking the time to put them together. The pace is just right and they are just right for beginners. The only thing I'd change is to make it clearer where your mouse pointer is, maybe there's a highlighting option in the video capture software?
Honestly the video was great but I was just wondering whether there's a way to alter the Size of different parts of the piece you created. I cant seem to find a way to alter the size of features like the base. But I never knew of this feature before and it was super useful. Thank you.
whats strange is that when i create the polarpattern i get lines on the top face which the tutorial doesnt show. Looks identical otherwise, i used the same parameters
Thank you for your tutorials! They are very nicely done. I downloaded and installed FreeCAD 64-bit for Windows v0.18 the other day and have been following along the tutorials. When I use the Image tool and import an image, NOTHING shows. I downloaded your example Shutterstock image in JPG format.... nothing shows before or after I click "Set to Front View" and Fit Whole Content... I tried the image in PNG format with the same results. I tried various other PNG and JPG images from my machine all with the same result. The Image Plane is showing in the Model tab, but I get nothing visual. I saved, closed FreeCAD, reopened project and still nothing. Is there some setting that has to be enabled or something obvious that I am missing? Would love to do this tutorial, but I am dead from the start.
Update: I did not see the error at the bottom of the screen at first. I am getting this error: Unhandled Base::Exception caught in GUIApplication::notify. The error message is: Access violation. This happens even if FreeCAD is Run As Administrator. To that end, I am starting to research forum threads... forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=35255 Update 2: Forcing FreeCAD off the Intel Graphics card to my Nvidia GTX1060 corrected the issue (and will probably give me MUCH better performance). Will look for Intel updates.
@@MarthamEngineering - Thank you. I just downloaded a couple weeks ago and 0.18 was the current version. Are you running a Beta or pre-release version? Anyway issue is fixed and I am on to learning again.
Hello, I uploaded the image as a png and JPEG file and it does not show up. The error: Unhandled Base:Exception caught in GUIApplication::notify. The error message is:Access violation
I did some research. This might because I have an Intel graphics card. Seems to be a common problem that people are experiencing. It required more effort than I had patience for, so I gave up for now. The following error: Unhandled Base:Exception caught in GUIApplication::notify. The error message is:Access violation
I got the same thing until I made sure all my points were connected (select the two points then hit the single dot (coincident constraint) to force them together) - you don't want any holes before you rotate!

@@MarthamEngineering: It is impossible for download without registration. During this time I did screenshot, because it was impossible for small child. For such people image is important :)

Clicking Download now/WIndows/64bit provides 0.18 - very confusing for a freecad newbie. I'm finding some other things that were also very confusing - there is an option to display the sketch grid only while editing (now I know why it disappears when I close the sketch), and I had redundant constraints which prevented the sketch from showing in part design.
Before your tutorials FreeCAD was a torture for me. Now it looks so simple and logical. Thanks again!
I almost gave up on FreeCad but you tutorial restored my confidence!!
Thanks for a great tutorial! Please make more!
Fantastic!!! Clean, clear, and straight forward. Thank you so much!! I never knew about the rotation tool.. amazing!
Your tutorials are great. I'm learning something new in every one of them.
Thank you for the tutorial! Very clear and informative!

I love the fact that it has zero down votes!

Good job, thank you!
Wonderful
Great tutorial. How do you make the final rotating view of the model?
There is a turntable feature built into FreeCAD!

You can change the dimensions in the sketch and the model will update.
Im using FreeCad 0.18 and the imagePlane is not showing for me
These tutorials were made using FreeCAD 0.19. I would highly recommend updating.
@@MarthamEngineering Is that a pre release
It is, however it is the recommended version to use.

Great video. Was there a reason to have the datum at the bottom?
It makes it easier to control the height of the model using a single dimension.

HI..I am getting a Failed to Validate broken Face error. Can you suggest what I might do?
Could you post the file on the FreeCAD forum?

You are using 0.19 - but the link you provided is showing 0.18 as the latest stable version...
And 0.19 is really buggy
Which link?
I find 0.19 the most stable version if FreeCAD. If there is something that is repeatedly causing issues for you please report it on the FreeCAD forum.

If you want to use 0.19 it is available from a number of sources. For example: github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases
Wow
Is wow good or not good? 😄
