Morten's vocal range is absolutely astronomical!!! This guy really can sing and I've always loved all Aha's songs since they began in 1982. I've been a huge fan of this band since then.
THIS is a-ha's MASTERPIECE. they will never exceed the passion, beauty, melody, angst and power of this most gorgeous lament. with his distinctive voice and range, morten is doing his backing vocals, i believe. their album HUNTING HIGH AND LOW is in my top 5 best debut and '80s albums ever ❤ and keyboardist magne goes by mags to keep it easier lol.
Haunting, stunning Masterpiece!!! Just Gorgeous, in every way, and Dereck, It's Pal (pronounced like English Paul, on guitar, AND the song's composer,) that is always singing most harmonies to Morten's Gorgeous voice! Paul has a magnificent harmonic blend to Mortens lead vocals! Wow!!! VERY occasionally, Morten did a harmonic layer as another voice, very occasionally, like I said, but MOST OF THE TIME< all harmonies are done by mainly Paul on guitar, and Mags (his nickname), on Keyboards.
@@HighFashionQueen My intention wasn't to denigrate Morten or Mags at all - obviously A-ha wouldn't be A-ha without them. It's just that writing truly memorable melodies and harmonies is the rarest gift in music. And it's Pål who has that.
I have listened to a-Ha since their debut and owned almost all of their releases. They were not as popular in the US but that was our loss. Such a great band.
.."but that was our loss".. true, and not the only one.But USA music market was quite "reserved" on European acts cause of a different culture,so it's expectable.Sad though. But you got a good taste Charles anyway.
Gracias🙌
This song and Morten's voice are amazing. All 3 first A-Ha albums are flawless. Infectious pop and great ballads. Cult years. A feast for the ears. Loved to see your reactions. I felt the same back in the day (including the chills felt on the arms). Like you said, A-ha never fails. They always deliver. :)
@@Megrez-Alberich You're right yeah, a little bit maybe. But there are so many great songs on it for me (You Are The One, Touchy, Stay On These Roads, The Living Daylights) and I was really blown away by Out Of The Blue Comes Green and some synths here and there that I didn't care that much. For me the 4th album was the let-down. They broke the synth formula with more guitars and it almost break them. After Move To Memphis and the best of, I really thought they would never come back from this. So glad I was wrong. :)
FINALLY!I was still in my teens when this divine ballad came out.I still remember when the video was in the making some music mags were reporting about how Morten was going to transform into an eagle,a shark and a lion. When the clip came out we got goosebumps! Most of us had already bought their fantastic multi-platinum debut album and loved this. The single version was slightly different with more strings added sounding really epic.Pal-a genius lyricist too- wrote those wonderful deep loving words of poetry, for his girlfriend. And that was a reflection of his inner world and all of his desperate feeling at the time.Morten is a Nordic God while singing this.Live performances are also thrilling to this, with the audience sing-a-long with him after the end. It's an Hymn.
Love the whole album! This is a great big synth pop ballad and as with many a-ha tracks it’s full, lush, dramatic and brilliantly executed and produced. Dereck, I really think you need to react to another track from the same album titled “Love Is Reason” which I think will have you not only tossing one banana but a bunch of them. Hope you get to that track, it will be fun to see that clip of the banana dance which I feel confident you’ll queue up for that track. 80s classic 🎹
A-ha played at Radio City Music Hall NYC this past Tuesday evening (4/12). The first half of the show was newer songs, but in the second half, they performed their entire first album “Hunting High and Low”. Sold out show and it was incredible.
CHILLS!!Iconic video, standard '80s classic!Saw them live singing this and remember some fellow fans around me (both males and females) started crying...me too ha!ha!.I just couldn't handle the feeling and the thrill of it and got tearful cause Morten sung this beautifully and very tenderly.A "desparate" anthem for many of us who were deeply in love but also devastated.
To this day Hunting high and low still brings tears to my eyes... I was 13 when it came out, and it came like a storm into my heart... 37 years later it still touches my heart like the first time... This was music made to last forever... And it did ❤️
Great reaction to a great song, Dereck! This ballad has been played in concert all these years, and every time the audience are invited to sing along in the chorus. The title 'Hunting high and low" is an example of Paul drawing inspiration from literature. This time from the Norwegian classic, the children's book Teskjekjerringa (Mrs. Pepperpot in the English translation of the story) which is about the wife who suddenly becomes as small as a teaspoon, over and over again. The husband was "searching high and low" to find his wife. Paul turned this into "hunting high and low" in the love song he wrote for his girlfriend from across the Atlantic.
I was 12 when this came out and I loved it from the first time I heard it. 37 years later it still gets me everytime I listen to it. One of their best.
One of my favorites songs by them. You should also react to Crying in the rain (cover of the Everly Brothers song where Morten sings both voices) and The Living Daylights (James Bond Theme)
When you paused the video, I knew what was coming ! and I knew how you would react ! I've been wanting you to react to this song for the longest time. So pleased you did. Another masterpiece of Norwegian Pop. Much like their other work in my ears sounding like a movie sountrack, so epic and so grandiose.
Classic song and music video, you also forgot to mention it was a hit in the Netherlands getting top 20! Such a classic album of the same name as well.
The most elegant song and musicvideo ever shown on MTV. The transformations in the video from Morten into various animals is amazing. remember this video was from 1986. Fairly advanced for musicvideos. The basic idea behind the video is that love brings a man back in various forms to be near the woman he loves.
"do you know what it means to love you..." Pål Waaktaar Savoy it's an amazing composer and Morten's voice is amazing... The tree of them complete each other 😊

Hi Dereck, it's been such joy to watch you dive into the A-ha universe or catalogue if you will. You have such a joy about you, and positive honest reaction expressing what most of us also feels when listening to A-ha. One song is never ever enough and is a joy to share or listen to these songs "together" with you my friend. The norwegian audience is by the way quite different compared to for instance south of europe, or especially south america, those concerts are intense and emotional and loud:-) But rest assure Aha, Morten, Mags, and Paal are a great pride for the norwegians. Just wanted to reach out to you, and all the other fans here. Really like your channel, and am happy for you, this ability of getting through and present music seems natural for ya, keep it up. They are gifted, all three in their own way. Morten is also a skilled songwriter, and Magne is a complete musician and songwriter.
As Pal said himself, a-ha isn't a-ha without Morten's vocal register. They write what they know he can deliver. They are a-ha, the 3 of them.
