The whole debut album Hunting High And Low is a masterpiece, every song is special, so unique and years ahead of its time. These songs are timeless (like every a-ha song). The more you hear them, the better they sound. Each time you can discover a different facet, a different meaning...I know so many bands, so many songs, but they never got under my skin like the songs from a-ha. This group is the best in the world in every way ❤️
Seen Aha live in Oslo. This should have been their James Bond song... Perfect. Almost odd how "take on me" seems to be their one thing that will live on.
It is funny when I remember people used to say A-ha was "just a teen fad". I can not speak for other countries, but here in Brazil the story was very different. Back in 1989 the group came to Brazil with their tour and they played two nights in Rio de Janeiro for 80.000 people each night. After that, three more shows in São Paulo for about 70.000 people each night. In 1991 the group was invited to play at the Rock in Rio Festival and they made history when 200.000 people went to Maracanã stadium to see them. Thanks for the video reaction. This song is one of their best indeed.
A real 1980s ballad masterpice, maybe the best song from A-HA! As a Norwegian🇧🇻 a-ha fan, a warm thank you for react to this amazing song and music-video! 🙏❤🇧🇻
I was in my late teens when this was out.I will never forget how much i got affected and connected to this beautiful tune. And i won't forget first time i saw the band performing this live front rows from stage.I couldn;t help crying all way through the song. Some Parts there was absolute silence with us getting lost in watching Morten's divine delivery and some part with the audience exploding in cheering and rapturous applause causing an emotional quake.I was lucky enough to feel less uncomfortable after noticing some others around me getting teary too.
One of the most amazing voices out there. His range is amazing. I am a devoted fan for almost 40 years. Manhattan Skyline will surprise you and you will fall in love and never stop loving them like myself. ❤
What a song, what a unique, beautiful voice (and man 🙈😅). Morten could read the operating instructions for a washing machine in that voice, I would still listen as if it were the most beautiful song in the world😂
Ah, this song came out when I was about to move to East Berlin three years before the wall would fall down. What a hope this song gave me! Great memories of my youth, that song always takes me back ❤️
The hunting high and low album was written as a kind of love letter to Paul's (guitars and songwriter) girlfriend (now wife) Lauren. Morten's hair is soaring and powerful just like his vocals.
Morten that Scandi Nordic mega performer.Great stuff, fab video piercing melody and lyrics.Imagine being in love and desperate.Pal who also wrote the lyrics was disarmingly true and devastated.I can't remain unaffected but getting emotional by his love and desperation since it's a self confessed discription of the state he was in at the time.
As my avatar shows... Morten has been my favorite singer the first day I heard his beautiful voice at age 13 and I am now 50... he has the voice of an angel!!
i was 13 when this came out.i had it on cassette and played it enough to know all the lyrics to all the songs.i fancied morton and thought he had eyes like kurt russell.
I believe that the music video is inspired in stories about people that have the power to transform into animals. The movie Ladyhawke is a good example. So the man never stops following his beloved and he follows her everywhere due to his power to adapt to all kinds of environment.
I had no idea they had any other songs other than 'Take On Me'. One hit wonder. Well, that wasn't true. What an incredible song with the lyrics, the arragement, and that beautiful etherial voice! I loved it! I might be stopping by the app store to find some A-ha!! Thank you!! LUKE don't forget my request of "Praying for Time" by George Michael off his Listen Without Predjuce album. I know I'm not a patreon, but give us some love that can't afford it yet. I have to buy Christmas presents! Lol! Thanks from Florida!
One of their three or four finest moments. Especially these early recordings, from when MH still had a natural tremor/sob in his voice. My standard comment is that this song gets most of its power from its verses, and that the main verse-melody sounds like it was filched from a waste-paper basket belonging to either Burt Bacharach or A.C Jobim.
Love this whole album. If you haven’t already reacted to either one of these tracks from the same album, I suggest you check out “The Sun Always Shines On TV” and “Love Is Reason” which are my favorite a-ha tracks from the album. The video in particular for “The Sun Always Shines On TV” is really interesting. If you are a synth fan you’ll appreciate “Love Is Reason”
@@alexioverdo5225 OMG Yes! 🙌🏼 Both of those tracks are stellar! Thanks for reminding me and now I have to get my earbuds in and get both those epic synth masterpieces into my head 🎹 🙌🏼
@@jerrycote659 Maybe you should look up more of his a-ha reactions, to show him support for being one of few TH-cam reactors that goes further than Take on me?
Great reaction! It's a shame that here in North America, A-Ha are mainly known only for Take On Me (don't get me wrong, incredible song & video), but their entire debut album is amazing - not a bad track on it!! They are SO much more than typical 80's pop rock - this song is proof positive of that. Been listening to them since this originally came out, and will do so till the end of my days...Cheers!
I dont know if you ever do any 60s music but would love you to react to Lou Christie and the song Is Lighting strikes. Tge lyrics are funny if you really listen to them. Plus he can really get his voice to a high pitch. Love your videos. ❤🌹
Hey Luke, thanks for the reaction :) I've been wanting to send some constructive criticism to you for a while now, so here goes : When I first watched your channel a few years ago, I didn't get through the video, mainly because of the way you start your videos. Most YT reactors start with an over the top intro of "Whatsup its your boy Big Dog etc BACK with another reaction blah blah blah" I feel you can just be normal and positive in your intro, without giving the feeling of someone who is fresh on crack. The reason I bring this up, is because I've found you to be a very thoughtful and intelligent reviewer, who has a lot to offer in the way of analysis on the instrumentation, vocals, mood, lyrics, song writing etc. Somewhere in there I see an intelligent young man with a lot of heart, who thinks about things. That's the guy I want to see more of :) Hope I make sense..
@@duff0120 I'm more familiar with the band's albums and less with solo stuff since some of the solo ones were domestic releases. But i remember a video in a lake with fallen leaves in the surface or smth.I gotta revisit it though to be more sure.Thanx for suggesting.
Aside from "Velvet" I've never been able to enjoy anything A-HA made after the mid-90's. And that was a cover of a "Savoy" song. For me A-HA became bland, and lost both the edge and creativity of their earlier efforts. It's a bit difficult to pinpoint, because A-HA has always mixed the ballads with a more rocked out sound, but I think there's a power that's missing from 2000's and on. Not the power of Morten's voice, but the general kick of their songs. Which is the main reason why I enjoy their output between in the 84-94 time period.

These older songs are very successful here in Brazil, such as Duran Duran

While many people at the time just dismissed a-ha as being "teen idols", they were releasing all these epic, windswept, and beautiful songs.🖤
