D3 needs to move up to a 10K for their NC

I was always a 800-1500 guy so regionals and natties felt forever to me lol. Another 2k would have me dead.

Honestly don't know why they do 10ks. The whole rest of the season for everyone is 8k. I really don't get why you would then randomly make the post season 10k.

No need to change. It was this way in the 1970s. D1 has the best runners in the country. D3 has amateurs. No scholarships so we don't need to put them through that extra 2k. I do wish they would run the same course so we can see how they would stack up against each other. There is no way of knowing if the top D3 runner should have run D1.

@@timroden6617 well according to the NCAA, to avoid injury claims, we all are amateurs lol. But on a serious note most XC distance changes, especially 8-10k, aren't all that different from a skill/ability standpoint. It's more so just an interesting thing that the different coaches associations decided on different race lengths back in the day and that the 10k is still the post season standard despite 10ks going all but extinct during the regular season about 20-30 years ago.

@@timroden6617 Im sure as lot of D3 guys can compete at the D1 level. There are some D1 schools that have trash teams and would get destroyed by a lot of D3 teams. Im from Virginia and ran D3 and we use to beat out D1 teams in XC. A lot of the lower level D1 schools aren't that good. Now if we are strictly talking can the best of D3 compete with the best of D1, then the numbers would be slim.

Terrible race conditions. Running on ice doesn't bring out the best in anyone.

Maybe so. But it's tough events like this that the runners will delight in embellishing when they tell their grandkids about it.

Why? Why would they run the championships in MI in November? Might be the dumbest decision in sports.

    • @Bella-je3pq

The Cross country national meet in always in mid November. 2021's race was Nov 20th in Louisville, Kentucky. Also the location of the meet is decided several months before the
meet actually takes place, like the 2023 meet has already been set to take place in Charlottesville, Virginia. They also have to follow a rotating schedule as to where they have it so wether isn't really considered and is
      always a tossup.

Because they want to differentiate real athletes from candy-asses that only want to run in pristine conditions. Take off your skirt.
