It occurs to me that Angel season 4 ended the same way as Buffy season 4 - with the big bad dying in the pentultimate episode leaving the final episode to cover the aftermath.
Normally I adore your videos, and this was another banger, but I have to admit I got a bit frustrated at the end there when Angel was talking about how Connor seems to have just given up and you weren't having it. As much as you hate him, Connor is Angel's son, and Angel loves him, and won't stop loving him. His observations on Connor's state of mind do matter. That said, hard to top the reveal of Lilah at the very end. Boom!
Don't you remember in season 2 what Holland Manners said when he showed Angel where the home office is? His contract with the senior partners extended beyond death. The same is true for Lyla.
16:24 This is such an important moment in the Buffy/Angelverse. We see this same message 4 times. 1) Faith after she kills the deputy mayor, 2) Doyle to Angel in the pilot, 3) Spike to Buffy after she is going to turn herself in for “killing” Katrina, and 4) here/now. This idea of “what is one life, a few lives lost compared to the thousands or millions that will be saved.” It’s a little Trolley Problem, but I really like how it lasts years and how well it fits into the growing up/adulthood metaphors of the shows. It also is cool in this show specifically because we see the parallels of what Doyle warned Angel about-not being close enough to the people you are saving, and you get disconnected or almost apathetic, in a way-come to fruition with Jasmine.
Connor in this episode and the next is really a tragic character. Well, he always has been, but the dialogue actually showcases this-finally!-at the end of the season. I wish we had gotten that level of characterization more often. 11:20 Yes, Jasmine can't sense what Connor and her subjects are doing while she's feasting and preparing to enthrall the whole world. She says this exactly at 5:47. P.S. Lilah is so great. Of course this isn't at the level of "I want to test that theory," but it's still an awesome entrance.
I like to think that some of the subtext of this show is that good and evil are justifications. That the world is more grey and it's really about power and how you use it. The next season really deals a lot with it, but Jasmine is the embodiment of that idea. How much is world peace worth to you? 🤔
Another cracking episode with Angel still trying to find Jasmine's real name in the other world. Connor eventually overpowers our gang, but just as he is about to behead Wesley she says to stop through one of the soldiers. Angel still fighting the demons to extract the name, and Gunn continually kicking the cage door to free them. I know Connor has been to a hell dimension etc etc, but he has betrayed Angel so many times it's just infuriating. Wesley as we know is great at working out solutions and here he realises that Cordelia cannot be harmed by Jasmine. Gunn eventually frees them all with constant kicking, and great bit of comedy here when he looks for thanks from the gang. When Jasmine is about to broadcast live it was great to see Angel appear with the head of the demon and cut his mouth with his final releasing the name and ending Jasmine's power over everyone. A really interesting conversation with Angel and Jasmine on the bridge with Jasmine saying that by killing thousands she would be saving billions who would be living in peace and paradise. Angel of course talks of free will, but Jasmine counters saying look at what choice has done and is still doing. We end on another cliffhanger with Jasmine getting killed by Connor in the end, and Connor running off again! When Angel get back to the hotel we have the bombshell of Lilah returning, but who is she, and what does she want, and message has she got. We shall see. All in all and action packed penultimate episode to S4.
11:20 She said earlier that while she's feasting she won't be able to contact Connor or anyone else, So she needed Connor too make sure everything is okay.
It’s interesting how Jasmine sort of shows us that the Powers that be are not necessarily “good” but rather keeping the status quo and using humans to fight their war. Clearly they don’t embody virtues because Jasmine is narcissistic or her kind can be corrupted or swayed from their convictions by what they observe.
I don't know if you've noticed but the gang have been a little busy they don't have time to worry about Cordelia right. She's in a coma and she's not going anywhere anytime soon they have shit to do RIGHT NOW. Prioritizes they've got them.
Connor does not deserve your vile hatred. He is the biggest confused and lost victim in this whole thing. He didn't ask for, nor deserves any of it. All he knows is he needed to FEEL at peace and to just stop with war and all the ugly toxic things he spent his whole life being trained up for. This boy's poor mind has been warped by a man who pretended to love him, while raising him like he's training a killer animal. He has absolutely no social skills with other human beings so he can't navigate things as easily as say...Dawn. Her human form was also a means to a solution, only her memories were filled with love and a safe upbringing. Angel being concerned over his son's state of mind. .THE ONLY CHILD HE WILL EVER HAVE, shouldn't be a nuasance nor take away his concern for Cordelia...but that's his flesh and blood. Connor's well being should be his top priority first over anything else, Lexi. When Jasmine was born, he was under her thrwall to a point, otherwise she couldn't mentally speak through him like she did. She knew he wasn't fully in her control, when she confronted him about giving in and letting her "have his pain". Once her blood was mixed with his by Wesley, he saw the truth, but he was so tired of not feeling at peace that he went along with the lie. He said so in the monologue he had while with Cordelia. My heart was broken for him. He just wanted peace and rest. Now he is tragically lost. So much of what Holtz did to warp his mind, he can't scatch out or forget, so he has trouble resolving the mixed emotions he has about Angel. Lied to by everyone in some form or another, and then told by them to trust them. Yes, he is a raw ball of confusion and pain in a strange world he can't easily navigate through. He deserves better, Imo. And now, tragically, he has had a meltdown.
While I said this last episode, I'll post it again. While Connor may have always seen Jasmine's true face, clearly he was under Jasmine's magical thrall. As soon as they mix Cordelia's blood with Connor's, he goes from a happy shiny person, without a care in the world. To someone that questions literally everything that Jasmine says and then outright disobeys her. His entire personality changed when they mixed his blood.
Thank you. So glad you got it, because she clearly did not. Her hatred for him blinded that fact from her reasoning. He and Dawn are practically the same tragic figure, only Dawn got fake memories of a good life and raised with a loving upbringing. Connor did not. He was created from a prophecy where, like he said, his existence was a lie. Raised by a man who treated him like some dog he was training to be a blood thirsty killer. Forced to exist in a hostile dimension where every day was a survival course. His mind was poisoned by the toxic environment and Holtz. He has been confused and lost ever since he came back to earth and trying to navigate it...with all of the none social skills he never had growing up. People like Lexi hating on him is ridiculous and immature imo. I was never a Dawn fan, but in comparison Lexi has all this " Awe, poor Dawn" sympathy for her when her life was a gift wrapped up in a loving blanket compared to Connor, and yet she wishes death on the more tragic one. I personally feel he and Riley, from Buffy, deserved better from the fans. The majority didn't hate both of them, but the ones that did like to speak for the whole fandom. But some people actually admitted that once some years went by and they gained maturity and life experiences, they'd rewatch the shows and realize the tragic complexities of these two characters. I will always defend them, because they were never given a chance to have the happiness they deserved. Both actors also had a**hole people attack them. They didn't deserve that either.
@@blackkatt777 Anytime I'm watching new Buffy/Angel reactors, Riley and Conner become roadblocks in how much I'm going to enjoy (verses being annoyed by) the reactions moving forward, because when the reactor becomes another stereotypical, "Ugh...I just HATE them no matter what, and will forever apply blatant double standards to my interpretation of their actions compared to other characters," it just becomes really hard to sit through the nonstop reactor hate spew from that point forward.

Lilah is really beautiful. Stephanie Romanov, the actress is the most gorgeous woman in whole buffyverse plus angel show in my opinion. Next it's Cordelia. And then Faith. That's all that I care to say here now. 😁
I am pretty neutral with Connor but I get him. Son of two monsters he was raised to hate grew up in hell and the only one that showed him love and kindness was a monster who occasionally has to eat people is it impossible to cling to that
I actually don't think Jasmine is evil- she's a grey character. I think she did want to help humanity but obviously she was flawed and didn't see the importance of individual lives compared to the group. Considering these events are happening around the time of Buffy Season 7, I think this is the powers' attempt to combat the First Evil.
This is my favorite season of Angel and after what Charisma said a few months ago about how she suffered this season I can only say. It was said how they destroyed the character despite the possession, the fact that she fell into a coma, I understand why she was pregnant and perhaps her pregnancy was not going to happen when she gave birth in chapter 17, but the fact that her friends barely have a little interest About what happened to her that Angel didn't mention her as you say, hey, they managed a relationship with us last season and they played with it this season and Angel doesn't even flinch about what happens to her. If it were Buffy, would it be different? It is more than evident that they wanted us to hate and forget about Cordelia but personally that never happened since Cordy is the heart of the team and if she were the show would not be the same
