    Darla sacrificing herself is one of the most amazing and heartbreaking scenes in all of the Buffyverse. Julie Benz did an amazing job, it's hard to believe it's the same kinda naf character from season one of Buffy.

    It's testament to the incredible writing that the fans fully supported Darla and call her selfless. A vampire without a soul, and the way she was written, we actually care that she died.
    Perfect redemption for Darla. To go from who we saw in the Buffy pilot to now. It's unbelievable. Julie did a fantastic job especially in these episodes.

    for me this was the highlight of the show, this episode is brilliant from the pacing, to the flashbacks and storytelling, the revelation of darla having a soul through the baby and the build up to one of the most epic scenes i've ever seen on tv. amazing end to an amazing character.

    Darla's ending is so well done. I really love what they did with the character. Btw, this is her *4th* death (1 sired by the Master, 2 staked by Angel, 3 sired by Dru, 4 staked herself), a record for the Buffyverse tv shows!

    That scene in the alley is always so heartbreaking. Julie Benz as Darla is one of my favorite performances in the Buffyverse, so much depth that we didn't (couldn't) get to explore on Buffy. I'm so glad they gave her character so much story because there is so much to mine from
    And in the alley at the end....very clear they went with a "maneger" theme with Fred looking like the Virgin Mary (or whatever) with her hood over Angel and Darla. I can't remember the exact image from our world but it's a great, subtle touch

    Re: "there will be no birth, only death", it's a Macbeth reference - Macbeth thinks he's invincible because he's told that "no man born of a woman" can kill Macbeth, but then he's killed by someone born of a C-section, so like Darla his mother never went through the birthing process.

      Of course she can't make up for it, but she knew perfectly well that if she chose to live she wouldn't have to live with the pain or regret. She'd be free. Happy even. Instead she chose the life of her child & to protect others from what she'd become without a soul (again). Darla has always had a strong sense of self preservation. Her sacrifice was selfless and heroic.

    This episode is so epic and it's another chapter in the Fabulous Fanged Four story arc.
    Their story arc is the best addition to the Buffyverse.
    Darla deserved this amazing and epic end, from what she got in season one of Buffy.
    Basically, she's the thread that connects the universe.
    She was a progeny to the powerful demon vampire, the Master.
    Even though Darla and Angelus made a few different vamp couples before, Dru was that special other connection that led to Spike.
    Both were special anomalies. Angelus/Angel had a prophecy to fulfill (basically you could say they all did) that was in the making while he got sired. All had a great and powerful purpose.
    This baby is a miraculous anomaly also.
    He was literally born in an alley while his father's death and vampire birth happened in one too.
    Both times it was Darla who gave those births.
    The jaws that dropped when Darla staked herself...😯. Speechless.

  • @TigerNightmare
    @TigerNightmare ปีที่แล้ว +1

    After everything that happened with Kate, I think we can assume that Angel is done with placating people that want to take their frustrations out on him. He tortures himself enough, he doesn't need to take it from someone whose approval doesn't mean anything to him. Holtz hunted two of the most notorious vampires in history, chased them across Europe and nearly succeeded a few times, what did he think was going to happen? And from Angel's perspective, Holtz made some kind of deal with the devil in order to get his revenge. You can completely sympathize with him, but you can't trust him or believe he has good intentions.

  • @CvSp22
    @CvSp22 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh Lexi, will you ever learn to be careful what you wish for 🤣?
    Angel couldn't tell Holtz it right away, he waited for a moment it could make a difference, but if he gave it away too soon, Holtz just be gone over it.
    Souls of vampires - well, why should they be judged by what the demon did with their bodies after they've been sired? Darla would be measured by the things she did before the Master and between her rebirth and Dru's return and maybe (since it technically wasn't "her" soul) by what she did in the end here. So i would say her balance is pretty even with a favor for her.
    They have to show Holtz daughter, so we can understand what his POV is.
    All other important things i gotta say are already covered by other comments.

    Angel seems to have a thing for blonds that repeatedly die. Also seems you answered your own question on why you cried over Darla. On Holtz vengeance isn't about logic or mercy, it becomes inherently selfish, often leading to the same or worse atrocities than what was committed against the vengeful. That's sort of the problem with it, can make people monsters.
