Well done! I bought a 1997 SLK230 just over two years ago for £600. He wouldn’t take my £500 bid offer!! It had 192,000 mls on the clock and had done very little for 5 years. I put it in for an MOT to get a list of faults to fix and it went straight through! Why the vendor hadn’t MOT’d it, I have no idea! Put two new tyres on the back, new brake pads after MOT, gave it a service including changing the transmission oil. It drives beautifully!! 😊
In my own time I have removed from wings, cleaned off rust & repainted. Same underneath, sub frame etc. Kurust and Hammerite under seal spray can paint.
Emissions a bit touch and go. Turned out to need new seals on air intake & even dip stick! (Smoke bomb test). Last indicators packed up. Turned out to be the or an ECU module. Replacement £50 ebay.

Thanks for watching! I’m glad to hear about your SLK as well. It’s sounds like a lovely car and a great story behind it. Second hard parts can often prove a great way of keeping these cars on the road at a reasonable cost.

Thanks! It was an offer I couldn’t turn down. Thankfully I did get one of the technicians at the Mercedes dealer I work at give the car a once over.

I not long ago brought a 2000 r170 in black. 35,000 miles on the clock ! Was dry stored for many years A real find. it is 2.3 and manual with black and siam interior. I am hoping to find some meets to take it to this summer. You got a good deal for £500 there for sure.

I saw an up-rated pulley conversion on ebay recently for less than £300. Gives 230bhp I've been told.

If I ever look to modify the car then that might be an option I’ll look into. Thanks for sharing 👍

Looks in decent shape for the money. Will you be doing some follow up videos?

As for a name it should be German if course. Maybe Hans or Helmut

The SLK still remains unnamed but thanks for the suggestions 👍

How does the underneath of the car look? Much rust?

I didn’t get change to look under the car myself but as I (and work for) brought it from a Mercedes dealer, they did a used car check and they did look underneath the car for me as part of that check.
