    I did the mod on my stock seat using memory foam from a mattress and secured the seat cover with self tapping screws with washers. Under $10 for screws and washers.

      I don’t know why I didn’t think of just screwing it down, doh. I tried an electric staple gun with no luck. Then paid an upholsterer $20 to refit and staple it back down. Recently added the Maddog seat cushion on Amazon for about $20. It works really well in addition to the foam mod. I had a lambs wool but it’s not as effective and more expensive.

    I would recommend trying beads or swoosh sheepskin or both over the stock seat.
    My experience is that this soft foam just makes you sink in the seat farther and you are looking for a taller seat height without the sinking in...
    Cheers

      I did add a sheep's wool for longer rides and it does help a lot.

    This may be the one mod I go a different direction on. Fortunately, I'm not far from Terry Adcox and I have family in the same town he is in. In late August, I plan on riding up there and have him do a custom seat. The Airhawk pad I'm currently using is an improvement, but not where I want it.

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would be all for a custom seat, and I think there are some shops around that would do that here, but the wait is long and the price for good work is high. I had to do something now because I did not want the seat to make me hate riding the bike and ruin the experience. This is definitely not going to be the end of it. But it will get my through until either a better option is available or I am sure I want to spend some bigger money on a seat.

      I tried the Airhawk dual sport seat pad and it does help, but I don't see it getting me to Nova Scotia next year. I've heard mixed results about the Corbin seat. Terry charges around $200. The Corbin seat is over $400. Seeing how he's only 3hrs away and in the same town as family, this is definitely the best option for me.
      So I am curious. What is the final goal for your little Versys? It seems like we're both modding in the same direction for the most part. Do we see a multi week road trip in the future?

      @@topdowngeorgia4398 Terry is $275 plus 25 to ship so it's $300. He's also backlogged by 6 months or so. But I hear great things about his seat. Priced better than the Corbin, which runs upwards of $500.

    Hi many thanks for these excellent videos. Would you share the specs of the tools you are using ? Thanks.

      A mish mash of regular tools I have gotten over the years. Honestly any decent metric socket set and other normal tools should work fine.

      I am doing well! Sorry for no posts in so long. I just haven't had to do much to the bike since I did all these mods. Everything has been working great and I have only had to do oil changes. I think I am close to 8,000 miles now. Maybe I will do an update vid this fall on how everything has been holding up long-term (which has been good).

    Hello from Russia! Like a motorcycle? Are you okay? I watched all the videos of your channel, it helped me a lot. Bought in may 2018, I really like it, drove 11,000 kilometers.

      Hi and thank you! I am ok. It was winter the past months and I was busy with my job. However I plan to make more videos as it has now started becoming spring here. I am getting my bike out of storage in the next few weeks! Exciting!

    So many people have commented on the seat hardness on various videos one thinks somewhere a seat manufacturer is doing a good mod, when I get my 300 I think I will try the Udon Thani bike mod street for something, shouldn't be too difficult to do the way Thais modify their bikes.

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know Seat Concepts has a DIY kit to modify your own seat pan ($190 for the kit) and Corbin sells a whole new seat (almost $500!!!). Both are more than I want to spend right now. I would be interested in the Thai seat. I bet it would be better priced even with shipping to the US... but would take a while to get here.

    I'm thinking of buying this bike. I'm curious about your experiences with the original and the taller seat.
    Was the taller seat still too hard? I was thinking the taller would be better in that you'd have just that more cushioning.
    Thanks..

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The taller seat is just as hard, but the shape is a little narrower so I find it a bit better. I also like that it tapers up onto the tank (nicer looking). For $200 you’d probably be better off putting that money towards a custom seat, otherwise you’ll end up modifying the tall seat or adding other things to make it work. I sold my original for $100 to recoup some of the cost. And with the cushion mod and a $20 Mad Dog seat cover/cushion, I find it pretty comfortable now.

    Hi, how is the bike, still got it? Have you checked the valve clearances yet? All the best from the UK.

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I do still have the x300 and it is great. I’ve since added some side bags, new tires and a Yoshimura slip on exhaust. I checked the valves at 7500 miles and the 2 exhaust valves on cylinder #1 were a hair tight so I put in new shims. All others were perfect. I also changed the fork oil, re-greased the steering bearings, swing arm bearings, linkages etc. I added a new rear Hyperpro shock as well. I wish I had time to make videos of all that but work and other things made it tough to have time to document and create videos. I’ll see about going an update video later in the summer on everything. Currently traveling across the country (not on the bike, haha).

    By any chances, are you using a non kasasami oem air filter?
    I just contacted K£N and they confirmed they do not have filters for the versys.. That sucks.
    Thanks

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not looked into using aftermarket filters. I think the OEM filters are about $9 online and are reusable oiled foam-type already so I don't see a need to get an expensive K&N.

      @@Versysxnet performance... Sheer performance makes all the difference. I won't say that the OEM is mediocre but it tends to get a bit dirty quite quickly where I live (where roads are never washed).
      But anyway, thanks!

    Is anyone handly bars and large nut lose? And got adjust my hi beams but I must take all that crap lose and one of them is act striped does anyone know any performance mods such as smoog control junk delete'S ?????

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not exactly sure what all you mean. Yes, you need to remove a lot of plastic to adjust the headlight beam, but it should be set well from factory. Mine is fine.
      Not sure what you are referring to about the large nut and handlebars.
      There would probably be no gain from messing with anything smog related since the bike is fuel injected. You would probably cause the performance to go down by trying to get around it. The catalytic converter is inside the exhaust manifold under the bike and the engine will be reading from the o2 sensor to make adjustments. It would not be worth the hassle and risk of screwing things up to mess with this... in my opinion.

    Hi! What about the motorcycle?

  • @tamdango
    @tamdango 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you ever upload the video of you doing the seat mod?

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I had a snafu way back when and lost the video footage. Essentially I just pulled back the cover and cut out the about an inch of th foam in the seating area and glued in a slightly softer foam. You don't want foam that will over compress (too soft), or you will just sink in and it will be just as uncomfortable. Overall my mod helped, but I will say that the seat is still not that comfortable. I ended up getting a sheep's wool seat pad and that helps for longer rides. Get true sheep's wool if you get one. I love the bike, so I may invest in a custom made seat eventually, as that is my only real complaint long-term.

    How does this bike handle 2 people uphills or the weight at all ? is the engine weak for 2 people ?

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never had a passenger on it, but I think it would be fine if both are of normal weight. This is not a powerhouse bike, so keep that in mind.

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is old. But I thought I would add an update on this in case anyone was interested. Yes the bike handles really well with a passenger. Obviously it is no speed demon with extra weight, but I thought it handled really well and even went down some trail roads just fine. Handling and suspension were fine. I am 190lbs and the passenger is about 130lbs. I probably had 5-10lbs in the rear top box as well.

    I took mine to a upholstery shop and they charged me 80 dollars.

  • @jasons44
    @jasons44 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why don't you just take it to the poster shop and have it redone like I did talking about buying high density foam the upholstery shop deals with this stuff everyday they have all the foams. You should ask people more and check around aftermarket Outlets online stores instead of doing it by yourself you're going to have to get that seat redo that seat. Don't buy no foam just take it to the post reshop and draw a picture of a saddle and tell him what you want you need to call around and ask if they've done a lot of motorcycle seats take it to the poster shop that does a lot of motorcycle seats

    • @Versysxnet
      @Versysxnet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did it myself because the upholstery shops were all booked and much more expensive than what I spent to do it. I also wanted to do it myself just because I could, since I will probably buy a custom seat in the future, I wanted to keep it cheap for now.

    • @jimpiquette1375

      Barkbusters Aluminum Handguard mount and Barkbusters Storm plastic guards on them. They sell a kit specifically for the X300.

    A strap on seat cover or air hawk might have been a simpler solution for the seat .
