I remember 2 "old school" nurses applying 3 types of white powdery substances to an elderly lady's bedsore that was wide and deep enuf to put your fist into.
Prior to their "treatment," a heat lamp treatment was done for months, which proved absolutely hardly any improvement. The patient would tighten up her body, bec it was painful to turn her over and it would take 2-3 of us to situate her in the bed. The odor was so foul, we'd try to hold our breath. I remember praying to God for her healing bec it was a nightly tremendous struggle for her and us.
Even the upstairs and downstairs nurses were very concerned over her suffering and decided to do that treatment in secret.
I'm telling you all the truth, at the end of 3 WEEKS, you couldn't put a pinkie in that nicely pink closed up hole.
I know one of the white powdery was cornstarch, not sure of the other 2.
We kept it secret bec they could have been fired for their unauthorized treatment. It was truly a relief for the patient and the staff, bec the nightly torturous experience was OVER. I believe prayer and that treatment completely healed that big bedsore in 3 weeks time--NO EXAGGERATION.

Living in an apartment building we had cockroaches and when we bought a house we took those nasty things with us. We sprinkled borax behind the fridge, under the sink and other cabinets. The roaches walk across the power and then the lick it off their feet which kills them. We were completely free of the cockroaches in just a few weeks and never had them again!

Having also visited Death Valley as a child I always felt such empathy for the miners and mules. How they must have suffered doing hard work in that heat. ❤ I make my own liquid soap using the Borax, washing soda etc. I like the results. My laundry is so much cleaner. I use a lot, lot less bleach than I used to. I am on a well which is soft water tributary but also hit a small hard water tributary. That hard water tributary brings in the red bacteria which stains clothes and anything it binds to. The Borax eliminates that from the clothing. I haven't tried it on the tubs and sinks yet, but am going to try that. Because it is a bacteria, the red algae, I put bleach tablets in the well every two months to kill it off. It helps but others that do not do that in their wells allows the tributaries to become contaminated and continues to flow into others wells. The Borax in the laundry really helps to whiten and brighten the clothes. I use it even for my colored clothing and have no issues with fading.

Borax had offered it if you sent in labels and likely some small change (we were very poor, so I don't think it could have been much) and lucky her, it was her treasure. I have very clear memories of the basement laundry room, and Borax was a part of it.

    • @design2c436
      @design2c436 17 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +9

There are numerous recipes with higher concentrations. This was the original recipe shared with me 17yrs ago. (Minus scent beads, those were not even avail, then.). Cost is less than .40 per gallon.
1/2 bar zote or fels grated, then melted-cooked in about 1 gallon water
Once melted add a few scent beads
Add 1 cup each of borax and washing soda
Stir until dissolved, pour in a 5 gallon bucket that has cool water in it, mix, add enough water to make 5 gallons. Let set for 24 hours. Pour in dispensers. (I store all the supplies/recipe in my bucket).
      Shake well before using.
Recently, somewhere, read that adding a little commercial liquid detergent helps it to stay mixed.
I just repurpose smaller bottles that are easy to shake up. But that sounded interesting.
I am excited that Rose is planning to do a video on this topic, cant wait to see what she has learned/ she always sheds a little more light on the science!

PLEASE use a food-safe boron and NOT borax from a paper box. There is NO protection from the MANY toxins in the supply chain when you ingest this type of boxed borax. Also you may be VERY low since you are able to use that much, but it is NOT the amount for everyone. For example if I take more than 1/2t. every six months it's a bad thing for me. Just a note to folks to use what works for them, not for osmeone else.

In our busy lives, most of us don't have time to spare but creating your own cleaning, laundry and spot removal can be made with inexpensive products purchased at the grocery store and it's so simple. I have cut down my grocery bill so much by making my own, plus you know exactly what chemicals you're subjecting you & your family to. Most of the expense comes from the containers you need to use what you make but of course, these are all reusable so it's the initial expense. These homemade products are simple to make & work just as well if not better then store bought!

I love this!!! I bought mine because of ants! It definitely helped. They were such an annoyance but they were gone in 2 days! I'm so glad to see these other uses! Thank you

Me too. I had ants coming into the house so even though it was scary to do I put the mixture of Borax and sugar into an empty water bottle laid on its side with numerous holes punched in the sides and top and put it near the wall where I thought they were coming in at and it didn't take long to see hundreds of ants come inside (the scary part) and surround the bottle but I resisted the urge to freak out and just let it do its thing and within 2 days they were completely gone with some dead ones in the bottle. No more coming in at all! I then caulked the area good to keep them from coming in anymore in the future. I also put this mixture outside as a perimeter barrier.

I switched to Borax & Arm and Hammer laundry booster instead of Oxy Clean to save $money.

Borax, and 100% castile soap, grated and mixed in filtered water makes very effective dish soap.
