this song is dedicated to a pilot named David Clapper who is a friend of the drummer ABR , Matt Greiner . David Craig Clapper ( 48 years) was a husband and father of four children , he served as a pilot of a small plane that was on a humanitarian mission in the jungles of Papua , in 2008 he was given the task to bring the local people who are ill to be taken to the Hospital nearby , unlucky him when the storm hit which resulted in the aircraft belonging to Associated Mission Aviation ( AMA ) kinds of Pilatus PC- 6 flight number PK - RCZ hit a tree and crashed on Mount Teibu , village Ndundu , district Wori , district Tolikara , Papua and David Clapper was declared dead immediately . That was the occasion that inspires Matt Greiner and his friends in the ABR to create a song with the title of Indonesia who is dedicated to his friend David Clapper .
Thank you, i had thought for the longest time it was about a prior drummer. Their tribute to a fallen friend is indescribably heavy and has stuck with me since the moment i heard this song years ago. Clarity on the matter is very appreciated.
I've listened to a LOT of extreme metal and hardcore albums in my day that get CRAZY potent but.... you know what You just might be fucking right Rest in power David. Not enough people out there trying to make the world a better place :( Its tragic to lose anyone but especially those trying to lift others up
Bagi orang indo yang mau ngekomen di bawah please jangan overproud ini lagu bukan buat negara kita. Ini lagu buat temen si vocalis yang mentrasport orang suku di Indonesia. [Translate] Indonesian people who want to comment below please don't overproud this song is not for our country(Indonesia). This is a song for the vocalist's friend who transports tribal people in Indonesia. On the last flight, the plane crashed into a mountain. So once again, please don't be a shame in front of Caucasians who listen to this song.
This song is in commemoration of David Clapper a missionary pilot in Indonesia, he died in a plane crash leaving behind a wife and children, who happen to go to my school. I have a great respect for this song and the man behind the song. Thank You ABR for this song. Rest in Peace David Clapper, your memory lives on in your children.
I just realized how amazing, talented, worthy, appreciative, and loving this band is. All of their songs come with meaning and i didnt even know it, August Burns red was among one of my favorite bands. Now that i know that all of there songs come straight from their heart, they are now my favorite. Forever and always, ABR!
I'm not even a huge ABR fan, but I literally have chills one-hundred percent of the time I'm listening to this song It's just literal complete goosebumps and chills from start to finish. You can feel just the raw emotion and true passion that went into this song.
perhaps the best line of the song "How does a man wrap his mind around eternity, when he can't even explain his own composition? can't you see it's bigger than you?
I thought the whole time he was saying "helter skelter" rather than "there's no scale to" it makes way more sense now, but I kinda wish it was still helter skelter...still a fantastic song
@SolarSkateboarding "This plane's going down in flames, and this time there's no black box to capture your last words." He wrote it down in his notebook and sure enough, the next day, he was informed that he died in a plane crash.
FadedDrummer its about their old friend David who would fly in and out of Indonesia transporting people from tribes (I believe) then one time their plane got caught up in a really bad storm and they hit a mountain and died. No offense but I wouldn't be the slightest proud if that happened in my country.
It's a song about their friend named David who died in a plane crash while doing volunteer work in Indonesia. The lead singer Had and urge to write the opening lyrics the day before he heard the news.
I don't listen to ABR as much anymore, but I remember hearing this song for the first time and getting goosebumps at the "David, Rest In Peace" part. The guitar riff backed by Matt's double bass bad-assery and Jake's sincere vocals tie it all up and, in my opinion, makes for a more heartfelt tribute song than Don McLean's 'American Pie.' I'm disappointed it wasn't a bigger track on Constellations and that out of the 4 times I've seen the Keystone state boys play live they never had it on their setlist, but maybe it gets them emotional so I would understand if that's the case. Nothing but love for ABR.
"And the white on his flag brings colors to shame." When I first heard this song, and the story behind it, I couldn't help but be blown away and moved. To me, the phrase above is an ode to who David was. A man who was good. "And the white of his flag" this was a man that made you want to be a better man when you looked at him. White is the color of purity. Of innocence. What I take from this song is that we all are carrying our own flags, which represent our lives. Some of our lives, or "flags", have been dirtied and discolored. But they can be washed and made new. I only hope that I can live my life in such a way that when I die, I'll have something half so profound said about me, and how I carried my flag.
in my opinion, this and Meddler are their best songs :) when I listened to this song the first time I was like "WHOOOO, I've found an August-Burns-Red-Song with clean vocals!!!" :D:D
Dave Clapper (Message to Beth) Slow down and walk with God. Rest in Him. Be assured that He is fighting for you and that the battle is not yours. Stay yielded to the cross; there He will speak to you with His still small voice. Wait, I say; on the Lord. He loves you with an everlasting love and wants to walk with you each step of your journey. Stay in His presence. Yield to the cross. Abundant Life comes from there.
Lagu ini didedikasikan untuk seorang pilot bernama David Clapper, sahabat dari drummer ABR, Matt Greiner yang meninggal pada tahun 2008 ketika sedang menjalankan misi kemanusiaan di pedalaman Papua.
I am agnostic, and even so I find this band to be truly inspiring. The underlying message behind this song is one of uniting as people and helping each other no matter what. Borders and flags are stupid, we are all humans. "And the white on his flag, brings colors to shame." That's how I take it at least. We need more thinking like this in our world.
This is my absolute favorite song by them. It brings back so many memories. Freshman year of high school and shutting the world out by blasting this through my headphones.
This has been my favorite song of theirs since this albums release. But when I found out it was featuring Between the Buried and Me I loved it wayyy more. \m/
Ehm yeah this song is sick but what would they mean with "And the white on his flag brings colors to shame" ? did they refers to our flag(im indonesian). Need a bit of enlighten here -_-
@dawnedeclipse It's at like 2:25, listen carefully. It's funny because he messes up the lyrics. And, his vocals are a lot brighter in this song than they are in BTBAM's music, and it sounds like he only did one track of vocals instead of layering two tracks, like normal.
love the behind story of this song , so touchfull . . and meaningfull . i 'm indonesian . we are sorry and so sad for the accident of your friend in our country . but i know david is a good missionary , Jesus is so proud of him . Rest In Piece david (:0
@WokkelTube BTBAM make ABR look like 5 year olds when it comes to playing their instruments haha. ABR is one of my fav bands, but btbam they are incredible at their respective instruments. Blake Richardson is one the few metal drummers i respect b/c he incorporates jazz into his style....very unique. Matt Greiner has told me that Blake has a huge influence on his playing
appreciate cultures other nations, especially in terms of color just because the funeral?? was not important that the funeral is not the color of clothing ... sign of peace
Some of the lyrics confuse me. I understand that it's a tribute to David Clapper who I think died in a plane crash but the " the white on his flag brings colors to shame" lyric, I don't get.
This was the hardest song I've ever taken my time out to learn on bass. This is why I love ABR. Instrumental wise they seem impossible for someone with barely 2 years on their belt. Lyrically speaking they just give everyone hope for a better day.
@popami he was a missionary in Indonesia, and one day he was flying in his plane and the wind blew his plane in the side of a mountain. the night before this heppened Matt Greiner(drummer) was in a 24 hour worship service and god told him to start writing. so he started off with "This plane’s going down in flames, and this time there’s no black box to capture your last words.". the next day, he was told about the accident and went back to his paper and saw wat god was showing. so the made a song
@dawnedeclipse Graduate. I tend to have a liking for band's that have music theory intertwined throughout the album, not just four power chords being repeated. For instance, ABR uses a lot of minor pentatonics and obscure harmonies that most bands don't take time to utilize. Music's really about one's personal reaction and connection to the music, so if you don't care for this band, I respect that. But this band is fundamentally sound, and in my opinion, they sound good. To each his own though.
@dawnedeclipse I understand what you're saying by constipated lol Unfortunatly I disagree with the rest of this comment, They are inspiring because they arent the avg metal shit talking about the "girl they used to love and how she's a bitch" If you're into that kinda shitty metalcore thats all about death and hate have fun, but this has meaning "inspired" is a word that means the lyrics are good and share meaning. And for the guitar they make all the songs they are the song imo =D
@SolarSkateboarding its a long-time friend of Matt's. He did missionary work in Indonesia by flying single-engine airplanes to hospitals so he could transport injured people from local tribes. One day when he was flying back to the tribe, he got caught in a terrible wind storm and he crashed into 'the mountains of Indonesia.' Strangely before the night it happened, Matt was in church and kept on thinking of these words, (look onto next comment ran out of space)
@ApocalypseGamingTF2 they are a Christian band... read the lyrics of their songs. they would rather have you listen to the music, like it, and then either read the lyrics, or look for meaning behind it. then you find out about the Christianity behind the screaming and, out of curiosity, learn. they feel that music is a better way to have fun and still get the point across than shoving it down throats(wich is preaching/ yelling/ arguing/ etc...) they teach to those who want to listen.
@lilkeepahadj "It then goes on to talk about the cycle of life, how the earth will swallow the water and the clouds refill the oceans. David’s family can’t possibly understand why he died that day. But they also can’t fathom eternity; they can’t even explain their own chemical make-up. What’s most profound is that they get it."

thanks :)
Ty for helping sort out the meaning behind the song. If you like this you should check out a song dedicated to a young man named Vahle (by Volumes)
Sad story indeed, but that gives this song even more depth and meaning.
Thanks, man. Deep condolences... . Im from Indonesia and it is the story of one of our states. May he has a better place to move on... .
Thank you, i had thought for the longest time it was about a prior drummer.
Their tribute to a fallen friend is indescribably heavy and has stuck with me since the moment i heard this song years ago. Clarity on the matter is very appreciated.
"David, rest in peace"....most powerful scream I've ever heard.
I've listened to a LOT of extreme metal and hardcore albums in my day that get CRAZY potent but.... you know what
You just might be fucking right
Rest in power David. Not enough people out there trying to make the world a better place :( Its tragic to lose anyone but especially those trying to lift others up
Awesome band.
Agreed. "A man who lived, who died, to better this world." RIP David Clapper
@TearsOfDecember Band 2008
For sure man def tugged on heart strings with that David scream you could feel the love and loss !! Super powerful

this is the only metal song that makes me tear up. truly, an emotional masterpiece.
David, rest in peace.

Simple-minded people.

omfg, imagine being in the concert when jake screams that. imagine the fucking emotion. holy shit.
fucking mind boggling.
i'm just happy that they wrote a song about a great man that i knew. in fact i saw him a couple months before he died.
RIP David 😞 time flies
It's been years, and I'm just now realizing this is Tommy from BTBAM... .-.
+Jonathan Weisert when ? :o
+dehydification clean singing 'the earth will swallow the waters...' and so on
+Ryan McBride The clean vocals*
that's what I said, but... yeah
+Ryan McBride The screams during the clean vocals part are also recorded by him
No song this band ever writes will beat the intensity and depth of this one.
This song literally gives me chills. People who say this genre of music cant induce any form of emotion outside of anger are deeply mistaken.
R.I.P David Clapper.
I'm not even a huge ABR fan, but I literally have chills one-hundred percent of the time I'm listening to this song
It's just literal complete goosebumps and chills from start to finish. You can feel just the raw emotion and true passion that went into this song.
This song is so awesome. It's an underrated song from this album, and it's probably tied with another one as my favorite.
Best song of ABR in my opinion.
Redemption. But this is 2nd
@rcz137:
It's not one of their friends.
It was a pastor doing missionary work over there.
they mad this song as a tribute and for the family.
perhaps the best line of the song
"How does a man wrap his mind around eternity, when he can't even explain his own composition? can't you see it's bigger than you?
We listened to this when I was in the Army, lol.
Great riding music.
this track is truly incredible!
for Indonesian do not overproud for this song, cuz this song meaning is criticizing you Indonesian
It's about the pilot
@@adamantobserver8655 i knew
Yeah, i know it
Yeah, I know it
@@IbtissamTrabelsi but you said this song is critizing indonesian.
I thought the whole time he was saying "helter skelter" rather than "there's no scale to" it makes way more sense now, but I kinda wish it was still helter skelter...still a fantastic song
Tommy Rogers features in this song. It makes it a million times better.
Indonesia is my country and I love it
@heyraka
It's about a friend of theirs that died in Indonesia on a missionary trip.
I get chills EVERY time i hear the "DAVID", part
such a powerful song brought forth through a special someones passing. good on ya guys (: R.I.P David.
@SolarSkateboarding "This plane's going down in flames, and this time there's no black box to capture your last words." He wrote it down in his notebook and sure enough, the next day, he was informed that he died in a plane crash.
Not being mean or negative, but to all the people who are saying, "its my country" do you even know what the song us about ??
No
FadedDrummer its about their old friend David who would fly in and out of Indonesia transporting people from tribes (I believe) then one time their plane got caught up in a really bad storm and they hit a mountain and died. I know that. I was saying that others don't
FadedDrummer okay lol I was just a bit confused. That's all.
some of them know, I know the story behind this song. offended? me? no
Describing my country as their friend's resting place?
I'm honored.
Just realized that's Between The Buried And Me's screamer 2:26
Narshredder he isn't their screamer, he's their lead singer and keyboardist. Dan Briggs also screams in BTBAM, and maybe others.
It's a song about their friend named David who died in a plane crash while doing volunteer work in Indonesia. The lead singer Had and urge to write the opening lyrics the day before he heard the news.
The part where he screams: "David, rest in peace" is so amazing.

the white on his flag represents him bringing peace to a war torn country by flying supplies in and out of the country.
Andrew Marshall Semantics. You say that it describes his actions. I believe it is deeper than that and describes the man himself.
"with a man who lived, who died to better this world" this is just sooo Moving :'( Rest In Peace David!
in my opinion, this and Meddler are their best songs :)
when I listened to this song the first time I was like "WHOOOO, I've found an August-Burns-Red-Song with clean vocals!!!" :D:D
Wow! i knew him. didn't think a screamo band would write a song about him. He was a wonderful man.
Dave Clapper

Best song of August Burns Red, in my opinion!
the hairs on my body stand up when i hear him scream david's name. u can feel the emotion that fueled his blood during that. damn...
HE SLEEPS WITH THE MOUNTAINS OF INDONESIA, AND THE WHITE ON HIS FLAG BRINGS COLORS TO SHAME
RIP David!
Sounds more like "He sleeps WITH the mountains of Indonesia"...
ABR and BTBAM have been my two favorite bands for forever. Just learned that the cleans at @2:09 is Tommy Rogers of BTBAM . Fantastic!
awesome = ABR
it's my favourite song of theirs. And now, since I know the lyrics, I love it twice as much!
@UninsaneRocker daveclapper_._info. sorry bout the underscores, hah. This is david clapper from the song
im so proud my country became the title of this masterpiece
FYI, lagu ini mengkritik Indonesia, jd gausah Overproud deh

the part "Daviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid!!!!!" gives me goosebumps :D

Tommy fucking Giles fucking Rogers.
when he says david rest in peace the drum is just insane its an awsome song
appreciate cultures other nations, especially in terms of color just because the funeral?? was not important that the funeral is not the color of clothing ... sign of peace
Whoa! I've never heard an August Burns Red song with clean vocals before...
It's Tommy Giles from Between The Buried And Me
Some of the lyrics confuse me. I understand that it's a tribute to David Clapper who I think died in a plane crash but the " the white on his flag brings colors to shame" lyric, I don't get.
already loved the song. unbeleivably badass now that i know the depth of the lyrics.
A brilliant song for a brilliant man... what better way than to respect a fallen friend?
anybody know anything about david?
because david clapper a man they knew, crashed his plane in indonesia. he was a missionary.
This was the hardest song I've ever taken my time out to learn on bass. This is why I love ABR. Instrumental wise they seem impossible for someone with barely 2 years on their belt. Lyrically speaking they just give everyone hope for a better day.
This video needed one more comment
There should be more inspiring songs like this one, it invites a bit to an introspection
he actally wrote the first lines of the song the night before david died, so he says that it was god ho made him wrote that...
It is actually a custom to wear white to funerals in Indonesia. Plus, he wasn't giving his opinion, he was stating a fact.
I got goosebumps. Just thought I'd share. \m/
@Squirellization Ya
this song gave me chills
It's a map,for you human to go to the cave... It's a cave. Between that, the red sea rise up.
