    Love the two tones! I picked up an obsidian from Rapid Deployment a year back and shit was it heavy duty material. Floor unzips for drywall ice fishing and ported for A/C and or diesel heater. It handles the Montana North Dakota winds pretty well. Fit slept my wife and I. My sister and her three kids pretty good. Also offers upgrades which is sweet.

      Agree, the two tone crushes it with the green. How often do you head out camping?

    I’m a huge ground tent fan, but those prices are wild. My Coleman popup costs I believe $100-150, has lasted 3-4 years so far, sets up in 1.5 minutes, packs in 3-5 mins, has never had a footprint, fits in my 2 door, and has handled Colorado/Utah weather without issue. Don’t get me wrong, your tents look good, but people shouldn’t go broke becoming an overlander. Maybe if it’s an American company and is made here, I’d be willing to pay more, but I’m thinking $450-650 for the big one based on what I saw here.

      They’re basically ice fishing tents modified for normal tent camping. Since they are basically ice fishing tents, they are much more insulated than a traditional Coleman style tent and built to be used in the snow, wind, and freezing temps as you would put this style tent on the middle of a frozen lake for ice fishing lol. They are also designed to utilize heaters of all kinds (although this one is not designed for a wood stove). Looking at pricing, for the solo base model, it’s essentially the same price as most other ice fishing tents; maybe a $100-200 more but that price difference is because this one comes with a floor and most ice fishing tents don’t. Now the bigger base camp tent. There isn’t really a similar ice fishing tent with that design. Most are in the shape of the solo or the extended solo like a gazelle t4 tent. So with that, the price is still reasonable imo as the larger ice fishing tents are still pushing between $600-800 and don’t have floors in them lol. You could compare it to the clam x-600 which is similar in design and $650, but it doesn’t have an interior floor, so I guess the floor is the $350 extra price?
      I do agree that the “extras” are a bit overpriced though for the rain fly and extended base floor kit but for true 4-season tent camping, I think it’s worth it.
      Oh yeah, it’s also a tent that not only includes a floor, but ends up lighter than traditional ice fishing tents that don’t have floors. Maybe they cheaper out on full insulation, but imo, it doesn’t look that way and most overlanders won’t be ice camping so would be worth that design change anyway.

      Welcome to the channel Mary. We have camped in this tent during winter months a number of times and the thermal properties are fantastic with this tent. I use a 4kW Planar diesel heater to heat and it does a great job retaining the heat for a very comfortable cold weather camping experience.

    You talk about wind knocking in the sides if you don't have them tied down properly, what about being out in snow, will that cave the roof in?

    • @overlandish
      @overlandish 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Takes about 20-25mph to push a wall that isn’t guyed out in. And once guyed out we have tested in 80+ MPH the roof will take over 100 lbs of dispersed weight. Snow will not cave it in.

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question, full disclosure, we don't get heavy rain out here enough were I have tested, not at least in heavy rain. As I understand from others, is you would fold the footprint under the perimeter of the tent to keep the water out.

  • @chrisj2024

    On the solo, what does the base measure inside? from one edge to the other, for specifying dimensions for my cot.
    Really like the solo, if it has enough room for my cot, a small table, I'm sold, it's the perfect tent for one person to camp with..
    Do you have the rain cover? Thoughts on quality for that and quality of the floor mat? both those options are over a 100 dollars each... Fine paying for quality, but don't like being charged for quality and getting crap.

    that square shape of the smaller one seems like the space is more useful. the 6 sided one feels like it would not have as much useful space because it is rounded off

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Square foot wise, the 6 sided Basecamp has double of the space of the Solo. The individual panel width in the Solo tent is wider than the panels in the Basecamp, as result and speaking PER panel... it's easier to position beds and such closer to the walls in the Solo. In the Basecamp you have a little space between the middle of the wall and center of bed, which isn't the end of the world as we will often have clothes bag stored in this space.

    Zip in floor kills me. Can that be left in at all times? Seems odd anyone would want to off-road all day and then scramble to zip in the floor on their easy to set up tent in the dark. Let alone in a bit of weather, mud etc.

    • @overlandish
      @overlandish 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The floor stays zipped in maybe unzip it just a few feet to make pack down easier as air gets trapped inside but you don’t HAVE to take it out. Alex just chose to leave it out so y’all could see it out.

      Dunes? Where are you located? I have taken this tent to Death Valley, Golden Valley AZ, and Glamis. All of these have high winds and lots of sand. You will get sand in your tent, bottom line. Tracking in with your feet and from opening and closing doors. Other than that, just bring sand anchors for your tie downs and you'll be good to go.
