Thanks for sharing! It sounds like your courses at Stanford were actually pretty similar to the ones I took in my degree in NZ. I can also sympathise with the exam bombing, except I got worse and worse as the years went by. When we started standardized exams at age ~15 I was really good relative to my peers, but got worse and worse relative to my peers as the years went by, until in my final year at uni I was really happy that I got all passing grades in the exams. I think this was a combination of caring less about tests and caring more about real skills (so putting more work into assignments vs exam prep), and of selection effects (as the years go by more and more people drop out)
Does Stanford have a pass/no record policy? Did graduate school interviewers/admission reviewers interrogate you about the NC in organic chemistry? Just curious as I just finished my first year at Caltech and am worried about my C+ in multi variable calculus 😥
Yup except it’s pass/no pass. The no pass didn’t have an effect on my GPA. I didn’t have any interviews for grad school and nobody mentioned it or seemed to care to be honest. although i highly doubt they looked at my transcript in detail, probably just at my overall GPA
it depends on the class, a lot of CS classes would weigh the homework higher than tests so you can make up for it, but also there were huge curves in the grading of many classes when I was in undergrad that i imagine still exist today!
would you watch a video on cheat codes for learning computer science?
just in general, many systems people for example spend a lot of time on the command line!
I would definitely watch a video about that 😊
Yes please!
totally
Yes.
This is a great video, as always, and I think a lot of people will really appreciate your honesty and transparency. I hope you're doing well!
thank you! hope you’re doing well too 😊

definitely relate to this! sometimes i feel like advanced courses have easier tests, but real skills and experience make all the difference

How can you fail the exam and get a B as a final grade?
