Thanks for the video Barry! I have the kilmat in a box just have to get other things done first. Saw a video on You tube where the guy showed a before and after while driving how quite the car was on the inside with kilmat installed I was pretty impressed
That's some nice work laying that mat in. Looks a lot like laying carpet on stairs. I loved the 2x4 clean up idea in the comments. Great Video, Thanks!
Those shears are the best, bought my sister an NOS one so she could make a boat dodger from heavy canvas, cut it like a knife through butter, better than her fabric shears.
I used a competing product Mat66 in my 67 stang. As you have shown this stuff is easy to install. I have not gotten the car on the road yet to test noise or heat reduction but it has to be better than the original jut padding that was there before. I only used a single layer but still had a couple of issues with thickness for door sills with the Mat66 and carpet but got it to work. Also when I burned through the carpet and Matt66 for the seatbelt holes, it needed to go back and clean out the threads for the bolts.
Looks good Barry, awesome video I put the eastwood mat down, and then added the factory style pad. I have not installed the new ac box though but i think it will be fine. I may try kilmat on the other car i have
Very Good work! When I've done what you done here with the Matt I have a soldering iron with a 1/2" pointed tip to make my holes B4 drilling or where the seat mount holes are. Easier to clean the soldering iron than the drill bits stinks like he'll but quicker in the longtime
Dude. I need this! Thanks for showing how to do this! EDIT: 17:38 After watching the whole vide, adds and all, I figured Id go to vintage airs website. Sure enough they have a stand alone heater. Im going to see the feasibility of swapping it out on my 65, especially since Ive already removed the crapped out heater box/core/everything!
Kilmat is nice. I did same on mine and put the 1/4 black mat (i think it call a roof mat) over the top of the Kilmat to give a little more silence from the engine compartment. Turned out great and go low enough to get to the bottom of the toe kick. carpet go over the top of that and wont see the silver on firewall when done. Just a thought ;)
I'm using products from second skin. They have mats (Damplifier Pro) or spray (Spectrum) products and I'm using both. I pre-applied two coats of their spray-on Spectrum product to areas that will be hard to reach after the quarter panels of my 67 Cougar are installed. The spray on material looks like it was factory applied and no cutting and patching is required. The cleanup of the spray gun is very easy using hot water when you are done. I used their Damplifier Pro mat material on other areas of the car and it is very easy to apply and you will not believe the difference it makes for deadening sound!
You and your fancy rollers with ball bearings and metal wheels while I'm still using an old decrepit wood wall paper roller with a nail for an axle... :) Oh and I hate working up under the dash. There is nothing enjoyable about it.
@@JoDaddysGarage Well I am ordering a cargo net and air bags for the upcoming road trip. The rollers will be on a later order all through your amazon link.
Fantastic job. Looked fairly easy to install. Don't they make a grommet for the heater hose pipes? And could you have installed the grommets first then installed the A/C box? Just curious.....
I did not see any grommets for the heater hose pipes. It may have been possible to install the a/c grommets first, but you would likely need a second set of hands to help.
Would spray foam work on the heater inlets to seal up the open area? Becareful with drains being around stuff that water may puddle on below, ive seen trans pans rust and cooler lines rust from water staying on areas dripping down and staying on metal surfaces under the car.
Great video Barry. I'm watching this like a hawk and taking notes. Looking forward to the next one. Do you think 2 layers of Killmat will provide the same sound/heat deadening effect as a traditional firewall pad?
It's so soothing to watch killmat installation

When I installed the KillMatt in the Mustang, I found working will smaller pieces just as you did on the the tunnel.

My "easy" clean up was to drill into a 2x4. The saw dust acted as a binder, and I was able to get most of it off with my fingers. No sticky mess.

I'll have to check that out. Thanks.
So is the kilmat replacing the firewall insulation pad? Or is that going on later? Sorry if I missed you mentioning that.
I do not plan on using the original style pad. Just the kilmat.

*available on Amazon.... :)
I used a roller I found in the kitchen. Shhhhh.... Don't tell my wife.

Spray foam could work, but I will think it over. You're right about the drain. Have to be cautious.

Obrigado meu amigo. Eu gosto desse produto.
Can the United Pacific mirrors be disassembled so I can sandblast the chrome and powdercoat?
I looked them over. I'd have to say it would be unlikely. Probably break the mirrors trying to get them out.
@@JoDaddysGarage Thanks...

I can't say for sure, but I like the kilmat better than the jute material.
