      Cant use that rear coil on the LEVOs buddy, only a few companies recommend their coil shocks for the full - powered LEVOs

      @@emtbtrailrider539 was just about to say the exact same thing ! The leverage curve is pretty damn linear on the Levo so you'd need to run a progressive coil OR some special ones like the Push ElevenSix tuned for the levo.

    Great video, but as an owner of the Carbon Comp I have to say: Wouldn’t it has been more interesting to compare the Alloy comp to the Carbon Comp?

      The Carbon Comp still says it comes with the 2.1 motor not the 2.2.

    Bought my S3 22 Levo Comp Alloy for $5600. I upgraded the Float X to a DHR Coil for $330 (Sale on Jensonusa). I upgraded the Rhythm 36 160 to a Performance 38 170 for $499 (Sale on Jensonusa). Those two mods completely changed how the bike descends. I swapped the wheels to the set of the Roval 29ers from my 2022 SJ EVO (free). Yes my Levo is now full 29. I broke the cable gx derailleur at an enduro race. Upgraded to a GX AXS ($600), lasted 2 months and broke that at a XC race. Now I am rolling GX T-Type Transmission ($900). The bike is amazing. The upgrades I did were cost effective and have really allowed me to really push myself and the platform. Getting ready to race in a couple of Big Mountain Enduro (ebike category) here in the next couple of months.

    Great comparison and Interesting topic Sam. Always worth looking at all the pros and cons of the different bike builds, upgrade options, faff factor, availability, etc etc. And different bike models/brands obviously. All comes down to personal preferences and circumstances. I did the whole spreadsheet thing comparing bikes. A few months of fretting later……
    I went for the Levo expert because the specs were mostly great, I couldn’t be faffed with a major upgrade process, and I wanted as light a bike as possible for a full fat ebike. While 1-2 kilos weight difference might be less of an issue while riding, for me with a very dodgy back and having to lift a bike onto bike racks and over gates, heavy bikes are super problematic.
    I got a good deal on the expert and my local dealer was fantastic by swapping out and installing (all for free) different brakes, tyres, and dropper post. Also got a good swap out deal to upgrade to AXS shifting because of my dodgy right thumb. My Specialized dealer installed my favourite Oneup bars and stem. Brilliant shop. Them doing all the swapping and installation was super helpful.

    We recently bought an alloy comp and a carbon expert. Both bikes are great. I got a GREAT buy on the expert or I would have bought two alloy comps. Part of the fun is the build.
    That being said I REALLY like the expert. In stock trim it is so very good. I changed the brakes to the wonderful Saints and moved the Sram Code lever assemblies to the alloy.
    Either way you can't go wrong with these bikes IMO if you can get a deal on the expert it's a great option.
    If you can't get a deal on the expert the alloy is an excellent bike to ride as it is and a great platform to upgrade over time.

    Good video Sam , I’m back on a levo after 2 years on my cube , loving my new 1 month old alloy comp , so far changed bars , grips and saddle and cosmetically, fork and shock decals , would like to go sram axis next and get me some Schawlow tyres

    Great video. Trying to decide between the two at the moment. I'm a short and average weight for my height (5'2"). Would I get better benefits from carbon or alloy frames? I'm only just getting into riding - is it best to future-proof with the latest tech or stick with the older battery display on the alloy comp?

    Hi Sam, just bought a comp carbon and pretty much going to your recommended build, especially because of the Rockshox. But i have read that coils and levo don't go hand in hand, they snap. Also, how do you feel about going to a 170mm fork, seems a lot are doing it, although specialized doesnt recommend it.

    Sam, you’re killing me! I just purchased an Expert last week after pondering this question for some time. (I even asked in the comments on your old comparison video to do these two bikes again in gen 3.). Fortunately, we came to the same conclusions, and I appreciate hearing all your thoughts! The three biggest reasons I went with the expert over comp were: 1. I got a great price on the expert, 2. One of my local dealers told me if I put a coil on the levo, it could cancel the frame warrantee from Spec, and 3. I don’t have the time or experience to do all the ordering, selling, and assembly to turn a comp into what the expert would be out of the box. I guess I should add a 4. -The mastermind with the micro tune. On the 2020 Levo I rented, I noticed the three power settings were like riding a 3 speed bike. I wanted something between the three options on several occasions. With micro tune, essentially I now have 10 power settings vs 3.

      Hey Mike thanks for the comment and glad you got the Expert, I’m such a bike geek and I know how people think and I thought this was a interesting topic! I did get a few comment on the coil effecting the warranty so I reached out to specialized and that is 💯 incorrect the warranty would not be effected. I personally feel the Expert is the sweet spot for most riders and the alloy dream build is for geeks like me! Haha 😆 enjoy mate

      @@SamsBikes thanks for checking with Spec on the warrantee issue. That will help with other peoples decisions. I didn’t go that far since the expert ticked to many other boxes for me. If I had your experience and expertise, I’d much rather build my own bike as well! Keep up the great work!!!

      Hey, great info. How are you finding the micro-tune? I'm trying to decide between the levo comp alloy and the levo expert carbon. I'm just starting out and about 140lbs. Any tips?

      @@SB-uu3uq When I bought the bike I thought the micro-tune would be a nice feature, but now with some time on the bike, I never use it. The problem with microtune is when in use, it sets both your support and peak power to the same level. For example, if I set 40% support, it will only give me 40% peak power. I find I like to have peak power always available and only vary my support settings, so I changed the eco, trail, and turbo modes to what I use most of 35/100 eco, 50/100 trail, and 100/100 turbo and switch between them as I need. So far I’ve only been riding with other full power e-bikes, so this has worked perfectly. When I eventually ride with an analog bike in the future, maybe micro tune would be helpful, but I could always just change my settings in the app again in less than a minute and still not need microtune.
      I really appreciate the other features of the master mind display though. I geek out on information, so I have 6 screens set up, each with 3 bits of information each I can scroll through with the touch of a button. The screens of the mastermind can be programmed with what ever information you want. And you can add or subtract as many screens as desired through the app. I could add a Garmin computer on the handlebars and see a lot of the same info, but I like having it in the mastermind and using the handlebars for my cell phone showing mapping displays like from the MTB Project app or others.
      As for which bike, if you’re new and only 140 lbs, I don’t know if you’d be able to appreciate the difference between the two bikes. With more experience, I think the difference would become more evident. Even with that said, right now if you can get the expert for the 25% off I can here in the US, I think that makes the expect version a real no brainer. At $8249.99 for the expert and $7500 for the comp alloy, I’d recommend the expert all day to any level or weight rider. At full price of $11000, I thought the expert was the best bang for the buck for my situation, but I probably would have said comp alloy for you (being a new rider), but at $8249.99, don’t wait and let that price get away if it’s available in your location. It’s an AMAZING bike, and nearly every component on the expert is upgraded over the comp alloy. If you have to pay full price for them both, it would be a harder decision, but I think the frame, brakes, suspension, and drivetrain are more important to consider between the models than having the mastermind or original displays. The mastermind is nice, and I like it, but I wouldn’t buy a bike over it considering you could always just throw on a Garmin computer and see similar information. I had a hard time laying down that much money for a “bicycle”, but after my first few rides and learning how it needed to be ridden differently than my analog bike, I think it’s some of the best money I’ve spent in a LONG time.

    Hi mate best bike for me would be the THOK MIG Ducati edition I’ve seen it on eBay £6250. So tempted I currently have the THOK MIG V2 just the normal one with 7000 motor not the new EP8000 love to see the difference in speed from those two.

    I built a similar setup with my levo aluminum frame, then had a warranty issue with frame and paid for an upgrade to a carbon frame and put all my parts on the carbon frame, its noticeable but you really have to be dialed into your bike to notice. The weight is one aspect, but the difference in how a carbon frame rides/feels vs aluminum was what I noticed the most. I am still up in the air if I should sell my gen2 levo and buy a frameset gen3 levo, pole, or base model trex exe.

      Hey mate you should 💯 get on a gen 3 a lot better in my opinion, I’m interested to see if I can really feel the difference from carbon to aluminum I mean a lot of the DH racers are on Aluminum so it can’t be that bad!

    Ride a Carbon Levo Ge3
    Changed the Bar, Steam and the Brake to MT7 with 220 front and rear.
    MM as well.
    My Favorite for 22 is the Kenevo SL
    Could be for 23 the Fresh Hai-Bike super little. But with more Travel .

    I shelled out my cranks on my decoy. I ended up getting miranda 155mm. Thought about 150, but with size 14 us feet thought I better go 155. I think I'm going to order 150 and try them though.

    I've buyed a Mondraker Crafty Carbon RR of 2021 2n hand. I've upgraded to a fully X01 transmission with a X01 AXS, reverb AXS 150mm, XT full brake kit with XTR rotors, crankbrothers e-synthesis Carbon wheels with Assegai 29x2.5 3CG TR DD and Ergon Pro Seat. Since now that's all. It will transform it to a Crafty Carbon SL maybe

    So I’m 6’3” 330lbs was looking to get back into mountain biking and the entry level Levo is on sale atm should I got for the carbon or alloy which is only 500 bucks cheaper. I’ve looked all over net and opinions vary on which is better for bigger riders. I’ll be mostly on green and blue style trails till I get fitter.

    Great video. I am struggling with decision of buying my first ebike. I thinking of Kenevo Expert or Levo Alloy. I am 6.4 and around 120kg. Which one should I go for, Sam? I forgot to mention that I would prefer full 29 inch-er and once I saw video with Kenevo Expert with 29 inch wheels I would love to have one like that but what has to be done to make one?     I got the levo alloy a few months ago and been riding about every day and I love it. Although I'm still curious about what that upgraded rear shock performs like. Is it really worth it? To tell ya the truth I don't think the master display upgrade is worth it.

    If you're going to take off the kit why wouldn't you start with the Turbo Levo Alloy (not the comp)? The drivetrain and battery are inferior but you could sell them per your other components or just replace them when they die.

      I agree - I'd leave the Fox Float X on there, and probably the 36mm fork too - that would make the price difference even more significant.

      Hey Darren thanks for the comment, if the coil breaks the warranty would be with the shock manufacturer not Specialized. But also make sure your not changing the size of the shock or forks. Ie the Levo is recommended to 160mm not more so if you do go 170 and you crack the frame this would not be covered by warranty. I hope that makes sense.

      The push coil has the okay from both Push and specialized. Zero issues. Probably because it uses spherical bearings at the eyelets.

    So the only upgrades you REALLLLLLY need on the Levo Alloy base is a bigger battery and upgrading the chainring to a 38t. It fits just right. And the bike gets so much more use out of the smaller gears on the cassette. But I can't say enough about the 38 tooth crank ring I threw on the bike. Such a different ride.
