I live in Alaska and my 71-year-old wife is a type two diabetic. I have her on a Carnivore diet for two weeks now and her sugar tests have gone from 200 to 80 to 130 per test for the last ten days! She has been injecting 35 units of insulin twice a day and meds twice a day!
I have been decreasing her insulin shots down to 30 units per twice a day and plan on decreasing her insulin more and more until she no longer needs it.
I want to decrease her pills and insulin slowly so as to not shock her body!
I keep her carbs no higher than 50 carbs a day and sugar under 5 grams a day!
    We are on electrolytes!
I am afraid of telling my wife's doctor that she is on the Carnivore diet and I am changing her medication because I do not want to be accused of spouse abuse!
    Love you Doc!

My doctor is a vegetarian. Wait till she finds out my diet and how I'm no longer a pre-diabetic, morbidly obese and with high blood sugar! Been on the Carnivore diet for 30 days today, lost 23 pounds as of today, lowered my blood pressure from 151/90 to 120/80, and blood sugar from 123 to 100. Loving it!

I’m Japanese from Japan. I can tell you there are several factors to their longevity - 1. Their meal proportions are much smaller like in Europe. 2. Their culture is so much more naturalistic and traditional than the American culture, so they don’t just start eating or surrounding themselves with mass manufactured products (food and non-food). They like natural and simple things mostly. For example, it is a longer and more strict process there to get a new drug or food additive approved than here. 3. Their healthcare system is run by the national government and focuses on preventive care. So the government actually promotes and campaigns for healthy lifestyle, healthy diet AND early detection of health problems at low costs. It’s actually inexpensive to get your annual full-day full-body big hospital testing done to catch any stage 1-2 diseases there. 4. They are not an automobile society. They have public transportation everywhere in cities, meaning they walk from and to train and bus stations all the time. 5. They do their grocery shopping everyday, so they end up eating more fresh foods. 6. They eat so much fish and fermented food everyday. 7. They start healthy diet education early. Their elementary & middle school lunches use local ingredients and each school has a nutritionist who plans seasonal appetizing meals everyday. Yes, those are made with good quality animal/seafood proteins.
Maybe I’m missing a couple more. But those are the contributing factors to the Japanese longevity in addition to their genetics.

Japanese also have a very stressful life to live in the big cities... social pressure is crazy there so everthing you said prolly dont apply to city people because i went to Japan and everything is packed in plastic, even 1 banana which is ridiculous... (what about BPA?)

At 71, I'm doing Ketovore after eating Keto for a few years. I've had that happen to me, friends saying you're too skinny, you need to stop losing and maintain. I am small boned though for years did not look like it. But I'm not skinny. I've told them, this is the way I eat and if I lose more weight, it was meant to come off.

My harsh opinion is that all sweeteners, high glycemic or not, are setting us up for failure. Most "keto friendly" sweeteners are just processed foods. If I HAD to have something sweet I would, minimize the best I could, and it would be natural. For instance, maple syrup or molasses are very high in minerals.

Started the carnivore journey in April due to ongoing issues. I was desperately going to doctor after doctor trying to understand why my saliva glands were swelling, rashes, extreme fatigue migraines, depression. I was told it was probably autoimmune but not a thing was showing up in my blood work. I currently have several doctors, family rhumatologist, neurologist, ent, and all they have offered was medicine, new medication every time I would go in. I thought I was gonna die, I felt so bad. Gave carnivore a try and I feel soooo much better, it has been a life savers for me. I finally have my life back. Fast forward to today, my doctor called about my blood work, told me I'm gonna damage my heart and wants to put me on a statin. I was told over the phone with generic information. I was told to loose weight (I'm 5'2 pretty muscular and weigh 130) I was told to exercise (already do 4x a week) and refrain from a lot of carbs ( well duh). Anyways just a bit discouraged today, I have listened to the studies about cholesterol so I am confident that this should be eating plan for life, but it is discouraging that I now have to go against my doctor.

Was in hospital 5 months with covid-19 ARDS. 10 chest tubes, bad tachycardia, a fib. Laying in that bed doing nothing, resting HR would sit at 120-130. Compare that to 40 when I as swimming workouts daily. Lost 100lbs muscle the first 5 weeks. Was a rough ride. Contracted c19 August 2021. When i went home in 2022, testosterone was sub 200 estrogen way up. Lots of visceral fat. Started paleo/carnivore November 2022, started swimming again june this year. Lost 30 lbs june and july. Cut out caffeine 2 months ago as it drives HR up. SPO2 still drops with activity but it is finally improving. I sprint in the pool in chunks I can tolerate. After a sprint, SPO2 is about 80, so I have to wait before going again. The paleo carnivore diet is great. Very happy with whole ingredients. Having ducks and chickens helps with breakfast.

However I want to look better, can try to gain the weight back eating more carbs, but I'm concerned about controlling my sugar. I would appreciate more of your advice. If this isn't the correct forum for asking this question, please advise me.

“Eat less move more” or “not eating enough “ for weight loss stall? Cancun in three weeks would like to loose 6 lbs . Since April A1C 8.7 down to 5.7 thanks to your videos! 152 to 136lbs sedentary job , resistance training once a week .

Great job on getting your A1C down. But you haven't said what you have been eating so there is no context for anyone to give you suggestions. If you are still eating carbs you might try to reduce those more, eg nuts, cheese, medium to high carb veggies (there may have been carb creep). I have a sedentary lifestyle and have lost more than 20% of my starting weight just by cutting the carbs without really trying to lose weight (I can only do light weights and stretching and strengthening exercises due to back and knee issues). I went low carb to remit my diabetes.

@@jobrown8146 🌈 BERBERINE 900-2000 mg split dosage after meals may substitute for metformin*. ALWAYS TAKE w CINNAMON… I take an organic cinnamon capsule of 2000 mg each time. Do this for eight weeks and then reduce to one time daily.
If numbers are still high after a few weeks, try another cycle of this treatment. My numbers were upper 200s and low 300s. Now my numbers are 85-130. It’s all natural and so much healthier without side effects like neuropathy which I am reversing…
Two pure supplements that I take to REVERSE Neuropathy:
      Benfotiamine (B1) 300mg x 3
      R-alpha lipoic acid 600mg x 3
Do not take any other forms, then those given because other forms are ineffective and interfere with recovery.
Benfotiamine is the most bioavailable meaning the most effective. R-alpha, lipoic acid is the “real“ product. S-alpha lipoic acid is synthetic and not effective. If combined, the synthetic cancels the effects of the real stuff. If no letter is given before the phrase “alpha lipoic acid“ it is synthetic and does not work.
*For those unaware, metformin causes neuropathy.
The difference between berberine and dihydroberberine (DHB) is that DHB is absorbed at five times the rate of regular berberine.

Gosh Dr Berry I’m a happily very female female and want to stay that way, but your illustration for men, of lifting that jug of water made me realise I desperately need more strength.(protein)
I am very weak and tired all the time and dizzy. I am about 4months ketovore but do find it hard to eat more than a couple of mouthfuls protein It just won’t go down.
Everything else good. No longer need BP medication, etc.
    Thank you from 🇦🇺

Next week I will be seeing a new doctor for my annual Medicare Wellness examination. Without challenging her I would like to provide her with more information about cholesterol significance and another test you have recommended in the past the C-peptide test. I am 75 and successfully lost weight following your guidance and that of Amy Berger.

@@angies5082 no I haven’t looked. But m a retired RN in the area but I am very healthy, on no meds and I haven’t been to my GP for at least 4 years. My mind has totally flipped during this time. I know if I need one, but right now, I’m at the top of my game!!! But that’s just me. You do what you think is best for your health. People always tell me I’m “tiny”. It’s ridiculous because I’m female about 5’3” 125 ,lbs, wear a size 6-8 or so. My waist is about 29”. I would say that’s normal. I’m not a size 0 or 2. That would be tiny!

I have a slightly different take on people asking if you are ok after losing a lot of weight. Most people don't lose a lot of weight unless they have severe health issues. If you are used to always seeing "healthy" people gain weight and "unhealthy" people lose weight, you start to assume that weight loss is a sign of health issues. Cancer is the most obvious example.

    • @hosephine1
      @hosephine1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Agreed. My father thought I had cancer, that was his basis of understanding heavy people losing weight. Be forgiving. You know you are healthy, they don’t.

I think it was 20 years ago, I did Adkins & was tracking my calories. According to my app, I was eating 3000 calories or more a day and lost 15 lbs after 2 weeks. I kept scratching my head as it made no sense with the calories in=calories out model of the time. Unfortunately Thanksgiving happened & fell off the wagon & didn''t return until Keto 4 years ago.
