My favorite version has to be the 2005 one, but I get why the 1933 original is known as the best since its a technical marvel even by today's standards and influenced media as we know of it in its entirety afterwards just by influence alone. The whole monster genre would've never existed either, or at least it wouldn't had for a very long time since the film business was still in its infancy. A lot of things developed way slower back then, and without King Kong it just wouldn't have changed much for decades. It's a good thing that it did though since more people got inspired and overtime technology started to get better faster and faster, and since the 21st century started it is exploding at an enormously fast pace, and it will only keep getting faster. King Kong from 1933 is proof of our efforts towards getting to those achievements and to put effort and passion in doing more. You just cannot deny that it is a piece of history. There's a reason why they wanted Peter Jackson to do it when they did because they wanted to showcase the best of what we have now while still keeping the same story and tone with more suspense just as much as people back in the 30's did. And I'm so happy that we were able to get one good remake out of it that still looks good in current cinema since now we can move on to other bigger things such as the Monsterverse depiction to go against the East that inspired nearly everyone's favorite monster that has cemented their standard, Godzilla.

Ah but you have to remember these movies are made by different people and in different time frames. There's also the factor of 1930s clay models, men in gorilla suits and today's world, CGI.
trulymeparker absolutely a huge factor, but l think 2005’s remake beats all predecessors because you see a relationship between Ann and Kong when every other movie portrays him as a monster throughout the film

The 1933 King Kong is a classic and in my opinion the BEST of all the Kongs!!! Not the giant puppet in the film (lol), but the animated one. I just think he looked and behaved awesome.
Jackson's Kong looks the most bad ass in my opinion, I really like that he moves like a really big silverback, 2017 Kong is the most powerful.

1933 is the best in my opinion you can just get lost looking at the special effects and background and it’s timeless story and musical score. I believe it also has the best pacing out all of them it’s deserves the title of masterpiece

Trailman 05 yep even in the Skull Island movie they say he’s not when done growing yet. He will be respectably comparable to Godzilla by the time the movie comes (plus it will have been thirty years since the events of Skull Island, lots of growing time)

@@roshanefowler4258 ehh, not exactly. Mecha Godzilla is made with the purpose of overthrowing Godzilla and gaining control of the titans. Giving humanity power over the titans. Godzilla is more of a villain. He destroys cities and power plants. But he's doing it because he has to. So he's a villain to humanity but to him it's the same as fighting Ghidorah. Kong in the novelisation is compared to Mothra often. A protector of innocence. Which creates a parallel between the two.

I feel that the original King Kong is the best. The 2005 version was far too long, it felt like Lord of the Rings instead of a Kong movie. The 1976 was ok at the very best. King Kong (1933) deserves to be one of the best films ever made.
I like most of these films, but the only ones that truly matter are the original and the Peter Jackson version. The original is a legend, and the Jackson version is the best possible modern re-telling of that legend.

In my opinion, The 2005 King Kong was the best REMAKE, because it was the only film that could be considered an actual true remake to the original 1933 film. The story was spot on.

For atmosphere and a great score by Max Steiner along with Willis O'Brien's animation and Marcel Delgado's creations including a great script and cast plus Merian C. Cooper's direction creates an immortal cinema classic.

The Monsterverse Kong isn't supposed to be a gorilla or an ape. He's supposed to be an entirely new species of titan. His official profile even says so. While sharing a common ancestry with apes, Kong is an entirely new superspecies beyond any existent categorization of life.

The Dino de Laurentiis Kong is the best of them all. They actually gave them a personality and charisma. It also looks the most real.
I like the music and the history not the monkey suit and the. Mechanic Kong was not able to move well
the suit and the animatronics were top notch and they looked far more realistic then the CGI versions, let alone the puppet from 1933.

5. 1976 (Not because of the film itself since it's bad but because of the suit and the few effects it showed off)
6. Showa Toho (For how ridiculous and over-the-top it was, terrible suit though)
7. Rankin Bass (Did anyone even knew this existed? I sure as hell didn't even when I was a kid)
can we just talk about how king kong original had a sequel made in the same year, that is pretty special for it's time not only because of the limits of 1933 but also because back in the day a sequel was pretty rare

I think I am in theminority! I liked the Jessica Lange version! Didn't see the 2005 one, though, and it does look decent! Sadly, I watched the ending already.
1976 was the best Kong film.
Then there was. The Mighty Kong (1998). That Animated Musical that we all rightfully forgot about. Except for me unfortunately.
I laughed a lot about the scene from the 1933 film, but I recognize it was a revolutionary film for that time.

1933 or 1976 for me. Can watch them over and over again. Can't say the same for 2005 and 2017.

King Kong remains a heroic, mythic character for nearly ninety years. He endures. The original Merian C Cooper 1933 Kong and Peter Jackson's 2005 version are the only ones who stay true to the legend and illustrate the wonderment of Kong. All other versions bastardize the creature. Even the 2017 Kong Skull Island. There is no reason for him to be 100 feet tall and fight creatures that come out of a comic book. The true Kong is approximately twenty five feet tall and must contend with prehistoric creatures who actually did exist. He has emotional courage and of course great strength and he is intelligent and sentient. Kong falls in love with a woman. He feels pain, bullets hurt him, he is vulnerable.
Godzilla is a stiff, always has been. He is a guy in a rubber suit crashing Kenner toys. There is no reason to now make Kong 400 feet tall to fight ridiculous creatures that an 8 year old could create. What's next, Dracula vs the Martians or maybe an 80 foot Yogi Bear who stomps the Ranger to steal picnic baskets....

King Kong had the first Rushed Sequel, Son, AND Mechanical Doppleganger! I personally prefer the 1976 Kong suit and the 2017 Kong designs, and I would LOVE to have seen a movie made where the Rick Baker Kong suit was used in a fight against Godzilla. Sadly, that will never happen. :(
