    Kaiju fans often site Godzilla as being the grandfather of all giant monster movies, but in actuality that could be given to our hairy simian friend here. Not saying Godzilla doesn't deserve some credit, but it often feels like Kong is overlooked, even though it's one of the most revolutionary movies of all time.

    King Kong 2005 is still EASILY my favorite, it seems that most of the complaints I've seen is that the movie is too long but I disagree, I think it is perfectly well paced, feeling a lot shorter than it actually is.

    • @JohannaLeigh
      @JohannaLeigh ปีที่แล้ว +5

      One problem I had with the 2005 version was the simple fact that Peter Jackson forgot to let Kong BLEED when he was shot. Even the original Kong bled. The 1976 Kong bled buckets, which one would do, considering the machine gun intensity.
      My FAVORITE moment from Jackson's Kong was Central Park. I don't know how it was worked, special affects wise, and I don't care. It just WORKED. There was genuine FUN there!

Not that I don't like Jack Black as an actor, his portrayal and writing just isn't as good as the 33 Carl denham imo. A few small remarks:
    1. Charles Grodin's performance in Kong 76 is so over the top that the character achieves cartoon level villainy.
    Sadly, Grodin died 5/18/21 at age 81
    2a. That actually was René Auberjonois in Kong 76, who brilliantly depicted shapeshifting Odo in Star Trek DS9, generally regarded as the best performance amongst all the regulars
    Sadly, Auberjonois died 12/8/19 at age 79
    2b. Rhodes Reason, one of the three leads in Kong Escapes 67, also played gladiator Flavius Maximus in the Star Trek TOS episode "Bread & Circuses".
    Sadly, Reason died 12/26/14 at age 84

    People seem to think that apart from King Kong and its sequels and remakes, there are no other American Kaiju films until Cloverfield. That's just not true. Even ignoring giant monsters in Ray Harryhausen films, such as the Kraken in Clash of the Titans, there are many others such as Them!, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, It Came From Beneath The Sea, The Winged Serpent, arguably the worms from Tremors if they aren't too small.
