I'm a Goan and I thank you for this video. We goans sometimes feel left out from general discussion about Bharat as a whole. Our land is much more than just a party destination. We have suffered, we have struggled and we have prevailed. If you ever visit Goa feel free to say hello, I'll personally show you the real Goa. Cheers mate.

Are Christian goans aware of this history ? If so why don't they revert back to sanatan ?

    • @HDtothe8
      @HDtothe8 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +51

@@AdrenergicSquad @AdrenergicSquad well that's a little complicated to answer. Everyone is aware of everything. On one hand there is the obvious brainwashing that has been done over the period of generations at a point where it's not a very uncommon sight to see Christians car owners having Portuguese flags on their cars. But on the other hand you need to understand that the Christians enjoyed a lot of benefits under the Portuguese. Also, we are a small state and a very prosperous state at that but over the past 20-25 years we have had massive immigration from every corner of the country which honestly our state cannot handle and this has significantly changed our society and lifestyle for the worse. This has got to a point that if you come to Goa as a tourist you might stay in Goa and go back without even meeting a single real Goan. So this also plays a role of further solidifying the pre conceived notion that Christians have about India and Portugal. As a Hindu I feel connected to dharmic roots when we think about India but I feel the Catholics feel a bit left out. Like I said it's complicated and not black and white like most things in life but that's as much I can type 😄. cheers.

Some of you maybe unaware of post liberation mass migration of Goans into Karachi. Approximately 10K Goans unhappy with Indian annexation migrated to Karachi in 1964 via passenger vessels. Due to strong relationship of Pakistan with western nation these Goans anticipated better future in Pakistan compared to India. Looking at current state of Pakistan we all can understand that they made biggest mistake of their life yet they never admit.

I am a konkani from Karnataka but my ancestors were from Goa. Our ancestral temples are still in Goa. We visit there few times a year. My father used to tell me how these Portugeese people tortured ur ancestors so much that many people had to run away to nearby states. You will find konkani people in Karnataka, Kerala, TN and Maharashtra. Our ancestors had to sacrifice their wealth, homes and even gods to escape. After independence from Portugeese, the newer generation rebuilt our temples and dig out our god's idols from wherever they were hidden.

It has become convenient for many Goan Christians to ignore the past atrocities of the Portuguese, especially wrt religious conversion, because that puts Christianity in a bad light. The proof lies in people who escaped from Goa to settle in the coastal region of Karnataka, as well as several temples demolished to be replaced by churches in the Portuguese era. You still have Goans who ran away with the god idols and set them up in the neighbouring states, those people still visit these relocated idols during festivals. It's actually very nice to know about Goa. Like said in the video, India in those days wasn’t exactly in a position where we could just attack easily without a significant retaliation. During the Indo - Pak war, it was thanks to the Soviet Union that we could help Bangladesh. But, in Goa's case, attacking earlier on may have lead to NATO retaliation in the form of unjust sanctions and such, which would have lead the whole nation to suffer. That would rather make the people of India hostile instead of supporting Goa if you consider the situation of our people just after Independence.
As for the religious and cultural changes, those must be condemned.

"Why did Nehru let Goa Suffer? | Goa Inquisition | Open Letter"
    **Introduction:**
The video explores the historical context and intricacies surrounding the delay in the liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule and the criticisms levied against Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, particularly by Prime Minister Modi. The narrative suggests that Nehru's reluctance to use military force was driven by a desire to maintain a peaceful image on the global stage.
    **Body:**
    1. **Portuguese Rule in Goa (1500-1961):**
    - The Portuguese arrived in Goa in 1500 and ruled for 400 years, surpassing the British presence in India.
    - The Portuguese engaged in mass conversions, temple destruction, and enforced Christianity, influencing Goan society significantly.
    2. **Activism against Portuguese Rule:**
    - Goa witnessed anti-Portuguese movements, with the Goa Congress Committee and Azad Gomantak Dal leading Satyagraha.
    - Despite local agitation, national leaders focused on ending British rule and paid less attention to liberating Goa.
    3. **Nehru's Diplomatic Approach:**
    - Nehru's government initiated negotiations with the Portuguese government to avoid military conflict.
    - The diplomatic efforts faced challenges, including the intransigence of the Portuguese dictator Salazar.
    4. **Global and Political Considerations:**
    - World War II dynamics played a role, as Portugal's neutrality gained support from the USA and NATO.
    - India's principled stance against aggression, as reflected in the Panchsheel Accord with China, also influenced decision-making.
    5. **1961 Liberation of Goa:**
    - UN declaration of Goa as a non-self-governing territory in 1960 and favorable relations with the USA set the stage for India's move.
    - On December 18, 1961, Operation Vijay was executed, leading to the swift liberation of Goa in 36 hours.
    **Conclusion:**
The video concludes by highlighting the criticisms Nehru faced for not liberating Goa earlier and the subsequent positive changes in relations between India and Portugal after the liberation. It underscores the geopolitical complexities, diplomatic considerations, and global dynamics that shaped the decision-making process.
    **Nuances and Controversies:**
    - The reluctance of Nehru to use military force is portrayed as a strategic decision influenced by global politics, principled non-aggression, and the fear of escalation with China.
    - Criticisms of Nehru's decision are presented, with Defense Minister Krishna Menon accused of misleading Nehru and an apparent disconnect between national leaders and the local Goan movements.
    **Terminology and Case Studies:**
    - Operation Vijay: The military operation conducted by India to liberate Goa in 1961.
    - Salazar: The Portuguese dictator whose stubbornness complicated negotiations for Goa's liberation.
    - Panchsheel Accord: A set of principles signed between India and China, emphasizing peaceful coexistence.
This comprehensive summary provides an in-depth understanding of the historical events, political decisions, and global factors that shaped the delay and eventual liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule.

That's how it is going & it will be going, unfortunately. But thanks to you for highlighting the facts. There is an excellent explanation on Nehru as a PM by Adharsh Gupta of Study IQ. At some point, Adarsh said, Yes, Nehru did make so many mistakes, but at that time Nehru did not have any ideal example of running such a huge democracy alongside being involved in a few wars, witnessing drought etc.
So, I think He made few mistakes, from his mistakes our present PM should learn. But they should not use his mistakes as a weapon of blame-game & election winning tool.

Lets not forget coastal Kannada kings and queens who gave shelter to goa people when Portuguese attacked and trying to convert them. Rani Chennabhairadevi gave shelter to many immigrants thats why some of the population in north coastal region speaka konkani. But Nowadays everybody has forgotten the pepper queen Chennabhairadevi.

Just very important historical context here .
For independent India there was so much pressure from western nations for liberation of Goa. Imagine if Portuguese had 5 times the area of Goa under occupation.
This was the exact case before 1739.
Almost all of western Konkan coast from Vasai , thane, Bandra , till Ratnagiri were under Portuguese control ..
It was great Maratha chimmaji appa the brother of great Baji Rao Peshwa who prevented this .
He freed total western coast from Portuguese hands with his final victory at Vasai fort .
This was the first set back Portuguese had faced in 200 years after setting foot in India .
Staggering total number of 1 lakh soldiers were involved in this campaign from Maratha side . 20 thousand soldiers had died in this battle achieving important victory.
Also this was coming at crucial times 1739
This is the year when north India was attacked By Nader shah .
Peshwa Baji Rao wanted to intervene nader shah for ultimate battle.
Preparation were also done 35 thousand army was also gathered and was waiting for other maratha armies to gather.
But as fate had it bulk of Maratha army with best cannons and European trained soldiers were fighting against Portuguese wich was drawn to almost 1 year .
Infact Peshwa Baji Rao had arguments with his brother chimaji appa regarding this.
Ultimately Peshwa Baji Rao dropped the plan as troops couldn’t reach in time in sufficient numbers .
And north India suffered brutal destruction and looting at hands of Nader shah.

    Some important facts
    1. Contrary to what people might believe Portuguese never came to Goa on there own
It was Hindu Goan genral timoji naik of Vijaynagara empire who invited Portuguese to free Goa from Adil shah.
2 Goa inquisition is one of the most detailed brutal torture and systematic conversion of Hindu population
3 chattrapati Shivaji maharaj and sambhaji Raje greatly intervened and prevented total annihilation of Hindu population..

Sometimes I'm just in awe of our ancestors. What brutality they faced for 450 years still didn't give up their dharma. They faced religious persecution, sexual assaults and what not but were resilient and still today you will find the considerable existence of sanatanis. That's who we are.❤
