So what I'm gathering is that this game has a tendency to get very close to incredible discoveries about its history and then it stops right at the part where people get to see the fruits of their labors
what do you mean it's history? is there a plot to the game where they're trying to figure out the history of the world?
I think the last evolution of Vibri is supposed to be a fairy princess, iirc! (Also, this was an awesome video; it's really nice to learn new stuff about an obscure game you love!!)

I think they are wings because if you compare the normal form’s ear to the higher form, you can see that their ears look like leaves or wings.
I actually always thought those were her ears too, but looking at them more clearly, they appear to connect to her back.

imo that’s because in the game, vibri is all alone and trapped in an infinite void, running along a ribbon, the games desire to not be creepy just makes it creepier and the general obscurity of this game just makes it even more mysterious
The Vib-Ribbon website actually confirms that there is no end to the vib-ribbon, as it explicitly states that it stretches to infinity in Vibri's bio

But then I realized Vib Ribbon is made around the same time the Japanese are deep in dark themes (Serial Experiments Lain, Kaiba, 21st Century boys, Paranoia Agent)

13:25 I'm guessing that these soundfiles were used for scrapped shapes which never got to the game because of how DIFFICULT they were, (You needed to press 3 buttons to jump or backflip at them) and were also planned to be used for the scrapped Platinum Course.
I didn't know there was this much depth to the ribbon universe
I really enjoyed this Ice Berg video, actually this was my very first one that I fully watch!
And when you were talking about how Vibri is fully isolated that’s what reminded me about how I feel bad for her. But actually what you said what she’s trying to reach like her home or a friend that’s what gave me hope, until I realized that she’ll stop running on the ribbon when the song ends.
What’s even more sad is that she relies on the player for company, but what will she do if the player turns off the game and never comes back?

@@roofogato a lot of youtubers manage to make them just loud enough to be funny for those that do find them funny without also damaging their hearing. It's not hard - just don't make them too loud both in general and when compared to the normal audio level of the video.
oh word, parappa and vibribbon are from the same studio? i never realized this but it makes so much sense, those are two of my favorite games

Vib-Ribboff - At a New York? event a guy made a rip-off called "vib-ribboff". Where instead of the charecter being female instead it was a male with the same obstacles.
Old Beta Images - Images were uploaded showing what the game could've been, like a different title screen with only a button saying play with *'s everywhere with the name of the game, a name thing like Parrapa and Um Jammer Lammy, and a different menu.
Vib-Ripple was going to be called Vib-Ribbon 2 - In the Wikipedia article about vib-ripple, in the center it says, "The game was first mentioned in a catalog list of presentation at the 2002 Game Developers' Conference with a talk by Masaya Matsuura titled "The Game Design of Vib Ribbon 2".
This video is great and the iceberg is interesting but PLEASE stop with the sudden bass boosts. It's hard to watch at times.

I’ve actually only found out about this game recently, and it was from the TH-cam recommended list, but I’m really happy that I found it! This game has a very unique charm and to see that it has some pretty neat facts and whatnot is really cool! Awesome video, and I really enjoyed the editing and memes!

fun fact: the mojib-ribbon game had a concorde as a picture. if you don’t know, this game was made in 2004, 4 years after a huge accident involving that plane. the incident was caused by a foreign object that got stuck into the engines.

that's just the way all CD/DVD games work. CDs are spinning discs, so access to random bytes is horribly slow. you can't read code from them in real time, so instead devs load things from the disc into RAM and then only work on the RAM. that's why loading screens were a thing on old consoles; you had to wait for the content to be loaded into RAM. i don't know why people find it so surprising that this game runs from RAM

Regarding Vibri being all alone: I have a theory which would solve this downer of an idea.
On the Vib-Ribbon wiki there is a (frankly not sourced but I'm willing to trust it) quote from the game's creator about how Vibri is from a "digital dimention" and interprets things (such as music) differently, in this case as shapes. Therefore, it is entirely possible that she lives in an unseen world with family and friends - and whenever she has the opportunity she just pops to the game to play around with music (or images, in Vib-Ripple). The artbook connects with this too as it could represent Vibri's imagination about the game's world or, alternatively, a representation of her own. I know what I'm saying is almost completely unsupported - but isn't this just a lot better than getting depressed that Vibri is lonely?

super interesting video, but the editing style was really painful. it would be a really solid video if it wasn't for the random ear rapes; the seizure inducing moments (10:13); the haha funny scary images you put at random times (1:02) and if the bits of info you only displayed for a frame or two (that bit of info about dwango starting as a doom modem service) were displayed for a few seconds instead.

The Japanese do have a /V/ sound, but it's rarely used due to how hard it is for the Japanese to pronounce; instead, they typically use the /b/ sound. So, when translating, translators either go with a name that sounds nicer to English speakers or what would make the most sense.
For example:
Vivi ornitier's Japanese name is 「ビビ▪︎オルニティア」 which would literally be transcribed as "bibi orunitia."
But that sounds extremely unnatural to most English speakers.
Another example would be Cress Albane. In Japanese his name is クレス•アルベイン (kuresu arubein) which many fan translations transcribed as Cless Alvein. While that isn't an incorrect transcription, it's very odd sounding. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the official translation which is actually closer to the Japanese pronunciation.
Though, a few wikis I read said his Japanese name is pronounced as cless albein which I am uncertain where they got that information from.
Also, the letter "u" typically gets dropped from Japanese words such as in the word 「好き」(suki). It would be pronounced /ski/ not /suki/, or 「です」(desu) would be /dɛs/ not /dɛsu/.
Also, as Japanese is a living language, there have been developments. The 'V' sound is starting to be indicated with the katakana 'U' sound (ウ) with a dakuten, giving the ヴ character, followed by the appropriate vowel kana, if not the U sound. It clears up ambiguity over if it's a b sound or a v sound. I wonder if they will eventually develop a unique set of kana for the sound as it gets used more, or if the ヴ solution is enough..

One thing that should have been on the iceberg is "clurds!" It is an Infamous video that is the main reason why furries are hated, it has furries dancing whilst pornagraphic furry fanart flashes onscreen, the reason im saying it should be on there is because it has the vib ribbon tutorial music.
I don't know what is worse, the furry fandom being degenerate or the ungodly ammount of antifurry trash.

Alright, to the beginning. I discovered this in February 2021 when I was at 6th grade, I miss everything I did back at 6th grade. 3 months later in May of 2021, I went back for it, and afterwards, it went everywhere on TH-cam. On August 25th, 2021 I went back for the tutorial for one last time before I went away from it. And as of now, I think this, and the two old houses up to where I live now help me remember everything I did back in February of 2021.

PS1 can only read CD's, and PS4-5 discs are blu-rays (or at least similar technology,) so the PS1 wouldn't read it.
