It appears that the article was low-rated, so it was removed and the slot re-opened so someone else could use that URL. This happens all the time. Often an article like this wouldn't be deleted, just moved to the Joke SCPs section, but that doesn't seem to have happened this time. There is still a Rhythm Heaven item on the site, though. It's one of the hundreds of addendums to SCP-914, a machine that "makes things better" when they're put inside. An R4 cartridge containing various pirated Nintendo games was placed in SCP-914, and the machine spit out an R4 cartridge with the games on it customized to appeal to members of the research team. Researcher's MacLean's game was a megamix of Rhythm Heaven, Wario Ware, and Mario Party minigames. There's nothing dangerous about these games, so the weirdness is that SCP-914 knew so much about the research team that it could make such a thing. I can't link on TH-cam, but go to the site and type "Rhythm Heaven" into the search bar and you'll find it.
Fun fact: built to scale only references scales in English, here in Italy, it's called something along the lines of "artfully made" and I think that in German it's called "beatfactory"
In Korean, "Built to Scale" is literally just "assembling pieces/parts/things". A lot of the Korean translations are really literal, like "Shoot-'em-up" is just "슈팅", which is just "shooting". The most interesting names in the Korean translation that come to mind is "The Dazzles", which is translated as "샤랄라 6공주" (6 Sharala Princesses) and "Love Lab", which is translated as "두근두근 실험실" (Exciting* Laboratory) (exciting in this case would mean in relation to love, since "두근두근" is onomatopoeia for a pounding heart, similar to "doki doki" in Japanese.
@@BaeYeou Shooting is probably just a direct translation from the original Japanese. Shoot-em-ups are just called Shooting Games (STGs for short) in Japan. Stuff like Galaxian, Gradius, Metal Slug, DonPachi, Touhou, etc.
An interesting Showtime fact is the way the parachutes work! Many people think it's that they happen on perfect inputs but they're actually random every time
Space Dance actually has a NEGATIVE emotional aura. Here's why: In the Try Again epilogue (for the GBA version), everyone gets sucked into a black hole and dies. Therefore if you don't turn right, sit down, and punch on-beat, you get the death treatment.
I’m so glad the Rhythm Heaven community is lucky enough to have such dedicated fans willing to make a 2 HOUE+ iceberg video. Most communities only get 30-40 minutes or less
I actually know why the "Here we go" was added! Often in Dog Ninja, I (and I assume others) tend to start holding down in preparation for the next flick immediately after doing the previous flick. However, if you do that while going for a perfect in that remix, it can ruin the attempt when it transitions into another game. So, I believe the "Here we go" is a way to indicate that it is safe to hold down the stylus.
You know my first impression was that an iceberg deep dive video was a strange direction to take the newest Jan Misali Project but then I realized that you've been doing Iceberg level deep dives on obscure concepts since before the iceberg meme was a thing. You know..."Dark Geometry" "OG Mario" "Hangman's Game Theory" and of course "Cute Frauds"
1:39:50 My personal theory is that the developers were just making use of the wider aspect ratio to add the baby, and since you can't see behind munchy monk in the original, it implies the baby was there the whole time.
Do I know anything about rhythm heaven? No. Do I care at ALL about rhythm heaven? No. Will I watch the entirety of this feature length video about a niche I neither care about nor know about, much less participate in? Absolutely.
I have a semi interesting fact about Showtime? Whether the balls get parachutes is entirely random. Some people might think it would be connected to "ace" timing like whether the robots fly away in Fillbots, but it's literally just random, someone set up a TAS to play it with identical inputs multiple times and there were different parachute configurations every time.
i'm not actually the only mod that talks about rhythm heaven, another of the mods wrote the posts for paddler and courtney but i did the posts on harry onion and mysterious lab tech
I’m so glad that you guys explained the “inconsistent tap of tap troupe” thing because for me I never had an issue with that song but then again I have a strangely decent sense of rhythm. When folks I play with had trouble I didn’t know how to explain how to help beyond “just try to feel the rhythm? Like try not to stress out much about it and go with flow and you will naturally understand it with the music”. Playing with other folks made me realize that my sense of rhythm isn’t universal and folks do need more than my shitty vague explanation lol. So I’m glad you went into the tap troupe thing so I can now explain it in a more- uh -in a way that can make sense to someone who isn’t me.

1:30:30 Praline is a category of nut based confectionery (pronounced as pralin not unlike the Japanese purarin), as such it was probably chosen as its a real word that fits the pronunciation and could be considered a "cute" name. The character supposedly called Praline has a + on their back, leading most likely to the pura in the Japanese name similar to Plusle from Pokémon, being purasuru in Japanese. Ararin on the other hand was likely named after Purarin to fit the same naming convention but with A instead of the plus button.
uhhh. so i was looking at some rhythm heaven comics and i found the comic with the unmodified trey design.... yeah, uh. lets never talk about this ever again, i regret everything.
To be honest, the fact that they made no effort to alter the blatantly anti-black appearances of other characters kind of rubs me the wrong way. I'm glad they at least had the common sense to change how Trey looks in the international releases, but even characters like Student and the Love Posse who aren't explicitly poc-coded could have been handled better.
I haven’t seen much of the video, but if it’s not already on the iceberg: 1. We know what the Clappy Trio’s voices sound like from Glee Club, as one of them is the conductor. It’s very easy to see this because of the DS title’s box art. 2. The person controlling the fork in Fork Lifter(the character shown on the art for Superb and OK)may be one of the Glass Tappers as well.
I was scrolling backwards through the timeline and saw "end of content warning" and I was like, why is there a content warning??. I then saw the word Gamergate. I was no longer confused
1:06:27 this explains why the characters are still happy despite falling over and failing the minigame in the losing screen. They just don't care about bouncing road.
I swear the developers were on acid on some of these games. “So what if we zoom out and it’s a massive portrait of Bach, except he has a moustache.” “Yeah sounds good”
About the ending of the video (spoilers?), I wanted to point out that unless Gamergate had some sort of presence in Japan I don't know about, I think it's silly to expect a Japanese man to know anything about Gamergate.

I second this, I've heard the term used in mlm situations by irl japanese. ネコ(neko) & タチ(tachi) can be used both in mlm and wlw situations. maybe the confusion comes thanks to "Seme" and "Uke" being more popularized to the western communities thanks to Yaoi fangirls :/ Furthermore, actual japanese dictionaries such as Jisho don't mention it being gender specific, so yeah.

43:59 I bet that since the joke was that the layout of the minigame was because they're legs are so long, but their bodies are regular size, I bet the tall tappers are some kind of stilt performers, and they're just sitting down in the café on their off time. Either that, or their legs are removable
22:30 To add to this, the notion of the rabbit jumping on sea creatures comes from a very old folk story from the Kojiki called the "Hare of Inaba" in which a white rabbit jumps on the backs of sharks to reach an island
1:34:28 This is slightly untrue actually, within the area used for storing the unlock states of each rhythm game there's a slot for Power Calligraphy 2; it doesn't actually do anything, but it is technically more evidence of the existence of the rhythm game beyond the name
Here's my interesting Showtime fact: the time between the first and last audio cues for the "fast" white penguins is the exact same is the "normal" gray penguins. The only difference is the double-time noises that the white penguins make, creating the illusion of faster movement.
One thing I want to note about Nintendo and Homophobia; it's less that Nintendo as a company is homophobic, and more that Nintendo is based in a Homophobic Country, and allows its various first and second party game development studios to have a decently high amount of creative freedom, with relatively little oversight, at least compared to other AAA publishers. This is why you see things like the removal of the DJ duo or or Tomogachi Life lacking gay options from Nintendo SPD, Meanwhile HAL labs just added Tony to Mother 3 without much of a second thought, and Intelligent Systems Just deadass has had Openly gay and Bi characters in basically every Fire emblem since 1999/FE5 (We're on FE16 now), and how IS even added LGBT rep to the mario franchise when they made Vivian trans. Just something I wanted to note, since it explains Nintendo's seemingly contradictory stances on LGBT+ characters over the years.
One thing that I think should've been in the video is how the results screen for First Contact is labeled as "Ground control to Translator Tom." A little reference to the David Bowie classic, Space Oddity. Well made video otherwise!

I personally prefer the new art, I don't like as much the original designs except for Jimmy t which always looked the same. But most of the old ones always looked a little weird for me and the only one I really consider better is Wario, he ooks so cool in his old artwork.
@@dashhhh8228 I feel like the weirdness added to the characters. While I don't hate the new designs ( I've grown to love them a lot actually) the old ones were definitely cooler in my opinion. @@lrgogo1517 It's like a combination of a monster fighting (pokemon) and card battling game, where each card has one japanese kanji, and you can combine cards to make new ones by making puns or forming words with them. It's for the game boy color, and made by alphadream. (rip mario & luigi) It's based on kotodama (literally "word soul"), which I think is roughly the belief that words have magic power. (I learned about it from a short lived gaming podcast called Obscuriosities if you're curious to hear more about it from someone who actually played it)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the reason that Rhythm Heaven DS had you hold the DS with the sideways grip was because that's the only comfortable way to hold a DS one-handed for more than a minute or two (especially the original phat DS). which is probably also the reason that Brain Age and several other stylus-only games used the same grip.
1:18:38 Actually the Fo' Sho' to For Sure change is totally justified. And it's not because in the UK Fo' Sho' would be less understood, it's because since that version of the game was going to be used in every PAL territory, in countries such as Spain or France, "For Sure" would be easier to understand, since those lyrics weren't translated to each language.
Ooh, I thought of a fun fact that could've made it on to the iceberg! Technically, Rhythm Paradise on the DS could lock you out of content depending on what type of DS you're playing on. One ROM of Rhythm Paradise has English, French, and German, and the other has English, Spanish, and Italian. If your system is set to one of the three available languages on the cartridge, the text and dubbing will be in that language. If it's set to something else, it defaults to English. (I think the fact that English is so prioritized could be a fun fact of its own.) However, North American DSi's and 3DS's, for example, only have English, Spanish, and French as system languages. This means that a copy of Rhythm Paradise in a North American DSi or 3DS will allow you to play in English and one other language, but it contains data for a language completely inaccessible on that system.
Looking at the Japanese Shrimp Shuffle results screens fills me with a feeling I cannot quantify. Like it has this surreal meme humor kind of vibe... are we sure this isn't taken from a Timotainment video?
13:25 Hurts just a little bit to hear that you found that mod to be really unfunny. I had a lot of fun working on that with my friends, it’s not perfect but lots of people did put effort into it to try to make a funny experience. I know humor is subjective though, and it’s a niche kinda humor in an already niche gaming community.
for what it's worth, there are a few parts in fever repainted that I do like (remix 3 and remix 8 are pretty good!), and I can definitely appreciate all the breakthroughs the project brought to the rhythm heaven modding community
I'd just like to mention something about the RHF Repainted bit. I'd say the reason the memes were a bit outdated was because, as you mentioned, it was 2017. The project was started in 2015 by Trigger215, but their ADHD-induced mishandling of the project meant it took two years to complete, and they handed it off to another owner who actually had the ability to get it released. The name "Lunchteam" actually came from Trigger's constant "oh I'll do it after lunch" claims. As for how I know, I regret to inform you that I'm Trigger, or at least, was. I changed my username because I didn't like the alternate implications of it.
1:44:13 I have a rebuttal to this claim: What if the ninjas found in freeze frame are actually the descendants of those in Ninja Boydguard, however instead they are carrying on the tradition of only wearing ninja outfits and just playing around on the racetrack. Ninja reincarnate does exist, however judging by the lack of modern technology and ambiguity of the time, we can infer that Ninja Reincarnate takes place BEFORE Freeze Frame, maybe around the 70s.
Exactly It doesn't have to be the same ninjas, even if they look the same I mean, this series is _full_ of characters that look identical to each other
What’s with the disrespect to Fever Repainted and the various other fanworks? This video was mostly fun and informative, but there’s some oddly passive-aggressive jabs for no reason. Some of the facts aren’t even facts, they’re essentially just complaints.
This video is awesome! I never thought there would be this much to the series. A brief note, I believe the "For sure!" and "Hmm..." regional differences are both because of non-English speaking countries in Europe, rather than UK/IE English. Nintendo of Europe tends to "simplify" localisations for Europe, since there are many non-English countries that, while more English-proficient than Spain or Italy, their English is not as good as the one in North America, so some terms are easier (this may explain the name change of the series too). I am not English native, but I am fluent in English, and even then I didn't know what "Fo' Sho'" was supposed to meant until I played the game myself on the European version (as opposed to watching the American one). With "Hmm..." having one more M, it may be because some Eastern European countries have languages that often have two/three-letter words made up of just consonants, so maybe it could be confusing for their speakers. This is all nothing but a personal theory, but the ones from the video could be accurate as well. Or it could even be both. Thanks for making this video!

In Korean, "Built to Scale" is literally just "assembling pieces/parts/things". A lot of the Korean translations are really literal, like "Shoot-'em-up" is just "슈팅", which is just "shooting".
The most interesting names in the Korean translation that come to mind is "The Dazzles", which is translated as "샤랄라 6공주" (6 Sharala Princesses) and "Love Lab", which is translated as "두근두근 실험실" (Exciting* Laboratory) (exciting in this case would mean in relation to love, since "두근두근" is onomatopoeia for a pounding heart, similar to "doki doki" in Japanese.
in Spanish it's "A Escala" (which also means "to scale") so at least the scales pun is preserved there too lol
Fun fact: Polyrhythm is called Built to Scale in Rhythm Heaven Silver when it shouldn’t
@@BaeYeou Shooting is probably just a direct translation from the original Japanese. Shoot-em-ups are just called Shooting Games (STGs for short) in Japan. Stuff like Galaxian, Gradius, Metal Slug, DonPachi, Touhou, etc.

Space Dance actually has a NEGATIVE emotional aura. Here's why:
In the Try Again epilogue (for the GBA version), everyone gets sucked into a black hole and dies. Therefore if you don't turn right, sit down, and punch on-beat, you get the death treatment.
Also if you miss, you either get smacked upside the head, socked in the face, or elbowed in the crotch. Is it really so happy?
Turn right or pose, quick!
I’m so glad the Rhythm Heaven community is lucky enough to have such dedicated fans willing to make a 2 HOUE+ iceberg video. Most communities only get 30-40 minutes or less
If you want another long iceberg video, I'd probably point you to the Conspiracy Theory iceberg by Wendigoon.
We're getting part 8 some time soon.
HOUE is it this long (noting spelling error)
I actually know why the "Here we go" was added! Often in Dog Ninja, I (and I assume others) tend to start holding down in preparation for the next flick immediately after doing the previous flick. However, if you do that while going for a perfect in that remix, it can ruin the attempt when it transitions into another game. So, I believe the "Here we go" is a way to indicate that it is safe to hold down the stylus.
I’m glad it’s there specifically because I can use it in Heaven Studio

1:30:30 Praline is a category of nut based confectionery (pronounced as pralin not unlike the Japanese purarin), as such it was probably chosen as its a real word that fits the pronunciation and could be considered a "cute" name. The character supposedly called Praline has a + on their back, leading most likely to the pura in the Japanese name similar to Plusle from Pokémon, being purasuru in Japanese. Ararin on the other hand was likely named after Purarin to fit the same naming convention but with A instead of the plus button.

I dont think the creator of the video *actually* thinks nintendo is homophobic lol
Vivian is apparently not trans in the German translation and no other translation.
Tony is from Mother 2, the magypsys are from Mother 3

Actually the Fo' Sho' to For Sure change is totally justified.

(I think the fact that English is so prioritized could be a fun fact of its own.)
However, North American DSi's and 3DS's, for example, only have English, Spanish, and French as system languages.

I'd just like to mention something about the RHF Repainted bit.
I'd say the reason the memes were a bit outdated was because, as you mentioned, it was 2017. The project was started in 2015 by Trigger215, but their ADHD-induced mishandling of the project meant it took two years to complete, and they handed it off to another owner who actually had the ability to get it released. The name "Lunchteam" actually came from Trigger's constant "oh I'll do it after lunch" claims.

If you don't know who The POSSIBLE is, they're a set of 6 girls that did the Rhythm Heaven Song in Live "Love Ooh Ooh Paradise" (it's arranged version). The designs for the DS version were based on how The POSSIBLE used to look.

Karate Senior is probably between his 70s and 80s.
Was a joke but yes
