What many people don't sometimes realize is that addiction doesn't just "go away" because we stop doing something. The only way to overcome addiction is to constantly stay vigilant in fighting it. Once Satan knows your vice, he will try to keep pushing you to it. Just like Satan though, the Lord will always try to be near us as well. It is and always has been and will be our decision to choose who we will go to.
My dad was an alcoholic untill 2 years ago. It was so hard for our whole family. The only way he has been able to remain sober was to turn to the Lord. He said that when that intense Urge to drink came over his body, he said a prayer over and over again and he said that the feeling just left. Weeks passed, then months, and now he's been sober for 2 years. That really shows me the power of the Lord, and Im so proud of my dad for overcoming his addiction.
I needed to see this. A week ago I decided to give up viewing pornography after a 23 year addiction to it. I was tiredI of always stumbling against it. I wanted to be free and clean from it so I decided to quit viewing. I don't wish this addiction on anyone! It's cost me a lot. This past week has been hard but I've won the battle. Now on to the next week. I'm so thankful for Elder Ballard's comments. Please pray for me as I continue in my recovery. Thank you :)
It is possible to come back. When I came back from war I turned to drinking and turned away from God. Those were the darkest days of my life, but through the prayer and above all forgiving yourself, you can make it through those troubled times. Though through some moments I still feel the the temptation to go back, I turn to the Lord with the knowledge that no matter the hardships and trials I'm put through on this earth, He will never abandon me.
I am 10 months clean due some wonderful missionaries asking me yo pray if the book of mormon was true i was ready to leave and give up on treatment and god so i prayed and i skimmed a few pages and then i saw a caption in mosiah Chapter 16 God redeems man from his lost and fallen state and the rest is history since then i have been baptized my wife was baptized and we are once a true family for eternity thanks to Jesus Christ and The true church being restored today

Hi Derick, we all fall short and need the mercy and grace of our Savior each day. Repentance is a chance to become better. I pray unto those who are struggling with addiction. God loves you and hears your prayers, he wants to bless you. Hope is near

Have faith my friend don’t give up! I recently got freed and it makes all the difference, looking back from the times that I struggled and felt hopeless I now feel hope, loved, feel I have been forgiven and constantly know that I cannot do this alone and need Christ help everyday.
But i promise thru the gospel of jesus christ i have been sober for 2 years and it has not been easy and will not but i have faith and hope and the gospel and thats all to save my life.
You can be free from any addictions. The Lord loves us all so much. Drop your Pride and open your heart to The Lord and he will fill the spots that are open from addiction and will fill them with his love. That love will make you whole again.
It made me cry. The love of Christ pours all over me. I am almost 6 yrs clean and sober. I had a ONE STEP program Jesus Christ. I counted my sobriety not by days but by seconds. Seemed to me so much more significant to my brain than one day. I wasn't willing to give up what I had for ONE second. Christ gave me the knowledge how to do it. I acknowledge HIM no joke EVERY second. I give Christ all the glory.
keep committed to Christ He is the way the life and the light of the world, keep trusting in his cleansing powers, you will continue to find hope and strenght in your weaknesses as you submit your will to him.
I've been addicted to cigarettes for twenty-some odd years, I have been trying to seriously quit for about three years. I recently have been attending a local LDS church. I love this church, it has changed my life in many ways for the best. I feel complete love and devotion to Jesus Christ (God bless his soul) for I now know he is MY try savior. I want to be a church member so much, I just need to kick these stupid cigarettes and such a large mountain is hard to climb. I pray ALLOT to myself,
I have been on and off drugs for 20 years. The only way I have found to free myself is through working my 12 steps, which is the atonement at its finest!!! The 12 steps breaks down the atonement in such a way we can free ourselves from the pain we have caused others ourselves and the pain that was endured on us. We are able to see from a different perspective and finally let go. The beauty of the atonement is the greatest gift of all. May each of you find peace on your journey’s. Choose to make that weakness a strength. I promise all of you it’s possible through the atonement, which is the pure love of Christ:)
This is a short and sweet little clip that is great for all of us. Indeed, it is easy to fall into temptations (I speak for myself as well), but I know the Lord will help us if we trust in Him as it says to do... to put pride aside and turn to our creator. Thank you for this message!
Wow. So powerful is the message - the film that highlights the message so well. I love how the film doesn't pull punches - film and music wise - VERY dramatic. Makes me really tune into what Elder Ballard teaches. Thank you again for producing these messages - they continue to be of such high quality.
I am a part time service missionary working with brothers and sisters who are addicted to behaviors as well as chemical substances. I have seen the devastation that addiction can bring into a life of a person as well as the family. there is always hope ! the atonement of Jesus Christ makes all things possible set aside your pride and open your heart to gods loving spirit and his son Jesus the Christ the giver of true joy and happiness .
I wanted to change my life, find what I was missing. Do what my friends did in life. Starting last year I decided I wanted to regain what I thought I was missing, I began drinking, I had prepared to try Marijuana and other drugs along with per-marital sexual relations. I thought these things would improve my life. Since then I've been visited by missionaries. I no longer drink, I've lost all interest in drugs and per-marital sex. I have welcomed Christ into my life, and I couldn't be happier!
Corrosive I am glad to hear your story and I rejoice with you because god loves you and helps when you come to him. Thanks for sharing and stay strong he will bless us.
I am finally free from addiction. I had been addicted to all manner of addictions. Since I've stopped i cry so much it hurts so much it is extremely difficult to stay sober and extremely difficult to adapt and cope in the real world.
love this message it is so true for so many of us trying to be the very best that we can and strive for perfection just as our savior did and set the example...
If been on drugs for 20 years give or take opiates of every type and others through god and Jesus and pray any addiction can b broken trust in him and love him as he loves you
@GTtexas2009 You should now be over a year free! For us that have addictions to overcome I agree with you that this video and the teachings of Christ gives us all an avenue to redemption. God Bless You and God Bless Your Family. I am so happy for you!!!
I'm living proof the Lord will set u free through the mercy's of the Atonement 2 + years sober and was blessed to find the LDS 12 step program and come back to the one and only tru church ~BE BLESSED~
8+ years of addiction to pornography and other things that are a little too embarrassing to mention. I finally went to my someone in authority and admitted all of my wrongdoings. He counselled me and at the end we ended with prayer. I felt the saviors love so strongly and have since than been clean for 4 months. I find it hard from time to time, to resist temptation, though I have not made the mistake of going back. I want to stay clean for life but am finding it hard. I will go to my Bishop and seek counselling more. I know that the savior forgives if you will do what he asks. I have found out for myself that when you go to the Bishop he will understand and the savior will forgive.
As you continue to progress, it is very important to share your new strength with those who are still struggling. It not only makes you more committed to full repentance, but lifts up the weary around you. In that way, the lord can take your greatest trial and turn it into an opportunity to bless his children. Congratulations and keep looking forward.
If you haven't already, seek out the church's addiction recovery program. Those 12 steps break down the repentance process and provide healing and understanding through the atonement of Christ. Go to the meetings and work through the program, in addition to working with your bishop, if you want lasting recovery.
do I have to go to my bishop??? I don't want to, I'm just wondering if there's a way to get through it myself and not have to admit anything, at least not now
Elena, If you want to have a lasting change, the only way is to confess and forsake sins. A funny thing about secrets is that they have power until they are revealed. Once the secret is gone, the power it has is gone. It took a long time for me to want to talk to someone about my problems. Before that I tried every way I could think of to handle things on my own. None of it worked, because it didn't involve the Savior.
Very powerful. We should always set aside pride and pray immediately for help and the love of Christ. I can't wait for conference again in a couple of weeks! I want to learn so much more!
It truly is a war, and there may not be actual weapons, but is more important to win than any physical battle will be. I hope you are still winning your battles and carrying on. Men who overcome this addiction are just like the soldiers that we know that keep us safe from our enemies. There are people praying for you.
Just remember that nothing that is worth it is ever easy. But it's worth the effort. The courage you're showing in admitting your faults and in turning to the Lord for His help is commendable. Keep on fighting, don't you give up, because Heavenly Father will bless you greatly, and you'll know happiness greater than you ever thought possible.
I like the key he said: 1. It begins with prayer, 2. Set aside all pride, 3. Ask for the pure love of the Savior to fill you (aka pray for Charity). People who struggle with Pornography addiction have a hard time being able to see others as sons and daughters of God. If we pray for Charity, then we won't be able to see others as objects, but as our brothers and sisters. I love this talk and I've heard it many times, but this is the first time I'm realizing the "charity" aspect of overcoming addiction.
my dad gave me a blessing to quit alcohol, I am not a strong person, I see other people smarter, stronger that have spent thousands on addiction treatment to no avail, I know in my heart the only thing that gives me strength to stay sober is that priesthood blessing. I know the church is true and is the only reason I have overcome for 35 years drugs and alcohol.
ELCAPATAZ never give up trying.. the Lord didn’t send us here to fail! He knows exactly and precisely how to help you but you have to take the time to stop and listen and be willing to be taught by Him exactly what you need to do to stay clean and be happy.
God Lives! I know that through, by, and because of the Atonement anyone can be freed and cleansed from whatever addiction. Faith, as we center our lives on Faith in Christ, unto prayer, daily and that consistently along with daily Book of Mormon study, we will receive strength to overcome, and we will feel God's awesome and personal Love.
Thank you so much for this video! I love these messages and they are exactly what I (and I believe) others need on a daily basis! Thank you so much for this wonderful message and I truly love this gospel!
Whether you believe it or not, God is real and he gave us all the freedom to choose for ourselves. It's wonderful that you can believe in your ability to do or get our of anything on your own. However, I promise you that there is one thing that is certain...You will meet God face to face one day! That's is a definite!!!
This video gave me the chills as it so perfectly depicts the sneaky and skillful ways of satan...the imagery and music really brings the message to life. Such a good job and beautifully shot:)
@1952puddin If it's something that is good, how could it possibly come from Satan? This is a good message, a good gift to those who will hear it, and so it comes from God. The feeling of contention, confusion, and conflict are not from God, but from the Adversary. It's perfectly and simply clear in the Scriptures that "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." (James 1:17)
When you start doing an addiction, you claim that you can stop it, but it keeps on going until you realize what you been doing. But, you can stop it from the lord’s help and God, Jesus is way of life, the truth and the light, for that if you give your problems to him, you shall have no addiction but have peace, In Jesus name, Amen ✝️❤️🙏
@GTtexas2009 I know your comment is old But I would like to say that I'm glad to see you doing well. The Lord has blessed my life also more than I realize or show gratitude for.
I am struggling, and I've tried to quit many times before. Often I have prayed for God to help me find the strength to give up my addictions. Only now have I realized that I alone do not have strength enough for this. I will have to lean heavily upon Jesus Christ and God almighty to have a halfway decent chance of getting over my addictions.
If you haven't already, seek out the church's addiction recovery program. Those 12 steps break down the repentance process and provide healing and understanding through the atonement of Christ. Go to the meetings and work through the program, in addition to working with your bishop, if you want lasting recovery. This program changed my life and saved my family.
The LDS addiction recovery manual and program works. It is amazing. You can free once again. Trust in the Lord and try it out. :D There is indeed hope. The Atonement does work to repair us, help us, purify us, and bring us closer to Him. We can be filled with the power of Christ's pure love. Elder Ballard is accurate in all things he says herein. You will be freed. I know.
It's so hard to let go and do God's will and not my own. Having the atonement is not enough-I have to release my sins and addictions and fully accept God's plan for me. I'm having trouble letting go of the control. I pray for guidance and strength.
politicalrachel keep doing praying god is cheering you on to keep trying and he will be there to help you every step of the way and when it seems like you can't go any further he will cary you.
I need help before I go beyond being saved. I have time to change as im young still but im scared to do the right thing. doing wrong is easyer. if I don't stop drugs and drink soon I'll be dead by the age of 30. I will repent 1st. my first prayer in a year. wish me luck.
jglws12 I hope that you have been turning your life around and that you have put your trust in Gods hand. If not I encourage to keep trying or if you are still going at it keep going Gods wants you to overcome these additions and he will help you as long has you do your part and put your trust and faith on his hands and he will work wonders for you and those around you. Remember he loves you and will be there.

used drugs for over 6 years....been trying to recover for 2 years now, relapsed more than 4 times now, i am now clean for 3 months again but it is so hard, the temptation are there every day..after 3 months my feelings and conscious starts coming back and then i feel unworthy and hopless again, then i relapse, i feel i have let god down too much and i am too ashamed to talk to him. but there are people with harder struggles than me i know that.
I've been an addict for more then 20 years. I understand how you feel. You need to come to an understanding that you are worthy. Worthy of hope and the love of God. Hold to hope and asked to be filled with Christ's pure love. Read the Screw Tape letters by C. S. Lewis. This book goes into detail about the organization of the Devil. He puts hopelessness in our minds. Satan wants you to be hopeless. Keep reaching out to God and others. I love you my fellow addict. Even if you fail, the Lord has mercy on us in our weaknesses, but punishes our rebellion. Richard G. Scott. We are in our weakness, and the Lord has mercy upon us. Believe it, and hope for all things. I love you.
Please don't ever feel ashamed to talk to God. He knows our struggles and weaknesses, and wants to help us no matter what. If you ever feel like you shouldn't pray, that's when you need to pray the most.
@danibc123 It was given in the October conference, 2010 by M. Russell Ballard. The title for it is "O that cunning plan of the evil one". It is in the November 2010 conference or online at lds org; you can find it in either place.
You don't need religion...you need to realize YOU YOURSELF have the power to change whatever you want in your life. If you can't do it on your own, no imaginary friend is going to help you.
I'm here with you. It has only been a few days for me- it is so hard. I am being attacked on two fronts: Beer and Porn. I am drinking non-alcoholic beer and keeping busy as best I can. I'm just now starting to sincerly pray on a regular basis after what seems like forever. I just stumbled onto MormonMessages via youtube today.
Hi @simonearendse6134, thank you for your sincere question. Despite the hopelessness you may feel, recovery is possible through Jesus Christ and His Atonement. We invite you and anyone else interested to join the Church's Addiction Recovery Program, the "how" of recovery. It is a process of studying and applying the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ to find the power to recover from addiction. Anyone is welcome, and there are also programs available for spouses and family members affected by a loved one's addiction. Learn more and find a meeting here: addictionrecovery.churchofjesuschrist.org/what-is-an-addiction-recovery-support-group?lang=eng

Wonderful Analogy. Thank you Elder Ballard!
Beautiful message ❤
FANTASTIC!! Thank you so much for this. ALMIGHTY GOD BLESS YOU!! 🔥🔥🙏🏼
Phillipians 4:13
Paul: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheth me
My favorite verse(also tatood on Jon "bones" jones)
Beautifully done.
Wow what a powerful video
i love You God and Jesus! Amen
my dad gave me a blessing to quit alcohol, I am not a strong person, I see other people smarter, stronger that have spent thousands on addiction treatment to no avail, I know in my heart the only thing that gives me strength to stay sober is that priesthood blessing. I know the church is true and is the only reason I have overcome for 35 years drugs and alcohol.
You've been clean and sober for 35 years? I need that! I was wondering if you can help me. I have an addiction to alcohol and it's killing me.
ELCAPATAZ never give up trying.. the Lord didn’t send us here to fail! He knows exactly and precisely how to help you but you have to take the time to stop and listen and be willing to be taught by Him exactly what you need to do to stay clean and be happy.
You have my prayers! May you continue to be blessed as you work through your recovery with the help of Christ's mercy and love.
Good for you man! You are beging to start your road of eternal Happiness
This illustration looks so evidence. Church is doing great work. Thanks for providing means for salvation of men. Simple and honestly..
Most Lovingly appreciated, and Cherished Deeply into my "♡".
" Thank You Lord "

All things are possible to those who believe
praise God Powerful message ....
Thank you so much for this video! I love these messages and they are exactly what I (and I believe) others need on a daily basis! Thank you so much for this wonderful message and I truly love this gospel!
Amazing.
I love this!
I totally agree!! 😃
Great message full of hope.
I love this video. I used it in one of my Young Women's lessons, and I believe the words spoken! Hopefully others will too!
Satan works at his fly and lead
To hook you into addiction
But you can be transformed and freed
The atonement is your protection
@1952puddin If it's something that is good, how could it possibly come from Satan? This is a good message, a good gift to those who will hear it, and so it comes from God. The feeling of contention, confusion, and conflict are not from God, but from the Adversary. It's perfectly and simply clear in the Scriptures that "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." (James 1:17)
Pspheaven, I'm glad that you have found happiness through Christ, don't give up. He will strengthen your weaknesses. The church is true:)
Beautiful message. Love the B-roll.
Thank you for a wonderful video. It really helped me today.
Excelente metáfora más claro ni el agua y gracias por compartir este mensaje.
Great analogy!
What a great and Wonderful Message! :)
This video is amazing...thank you for posting!
thank you
i love this video thank u
Good your sharing, I like see
@GTtexas2009 I know your comment is old But I would like to say that I'm glad to see you doing well.
How are you doing brother?
@BARONASAC1 Many of these are available in Spanish at: /MormonMessagesSPA
Yes social media for me 😌
I need help before I go beyond being saved.

Hi Alex, thanks for sharing. This video series features real stories from real people and can be intense, but we hope people struggling with addictions will see these videos and be inspired to change and turn their lives over to the Savior. used drugs for over 6 years....been trying to recover for 2 years now, relapsed more than 4 times now, i am now clean for 3 months again but it is so hard, the temptation are there every day..after 3 months my feelings and conscious starts coming back and then i feel unworthy and hopless again, then i relapse, i feel i have let god down too much and i am too ashamed to talk to him. but there are people with harder struggles than me i know that.
I love you.

omgg man do not say that
god always love his children
and u are the child of god and god loves u
plus he is very forgiving
Stay strong brother. It is possible to be freed.
Please don't ever feel ashamed to talk to God. He knows our struggles and weaknesses, and wants to help us no matter what. If you ever feel like you shouldn't pray, that's when you need to pray the most.
beautiful comparison
@danibc123 It was given in the October conference, 2010 by M. Russell Ballard. The title for it is "O that cunning plan of the evil one". It is in the November 2010 conference or online at lds org; you can find it in either place.
I love this whole talk, but this is a great video.:)
Shay brought me here! yay Shaytards :)
Amen
great metaphor
Please free me. Im sorry i failed you. Im not worthy of you jesus
