Maybe they've changed it on the new ones, but another VW quirk is that the horn only works when the ignition is on, but yet you can turn on the radio even with the ignition off! Also if you hold the key in the locking position in the driver's door, it will close the windows and sunroof. And conversely, if you hold it in the unlock position, it will open the windows -- great for airing out the car on a hot day even before you get in.
I loved this review! A GTI is the next car my family is getting (more than likely my mom since I'm not buying a car until I graduate) but this review was really helpful with what to expect even though this is very similar to the rabbit we have right now. Anyway awesome video and I am so jealous of this car lol. Also thank you for getting a proper 6 speed manual in this beauty!
I have a 12 GTI just like this with Nav& BI Xenon option. While I hear a nice growl on this one, stock exhaust is somewhat muted. Not most but a good number of GTI owners upgrade to aftermarket exhaust system and ECU tunes to add some spice. Anyway, GTI is a fantastic car, easily one of the best cars I've ever owned. Like most German cars, style will age gracefully as well that you wont feel so outdated yrs to come.
2005 was the last model year of the mk4 platform. Are you looking at the 1.8T or the 2.8 VR6? Be sure the vehicle has had a good service history. Although, we do advise, depending on the mileage, a 2005 GTI will still be a rewarding car to drive, just be prepared for higher than average maintenance cost.
I'd go through that 14.5 gallons so fast it wouldn't be funny! I'd never stop driving it. It just sounds fantastic! I've ridden in a 2010 GTI DSG and just riding in it was a blast! Glad insurance isn't too bad, I was expecting it to be sky high because its a performance car.
I have the 2007 mkv and I would take the 4 door version over the 2 door dsg that I had. I liked how at the 14:00 minute, the car displayed amazing turning radius.
I drove the dsg, it is AMAZING, as much as i love stick, the dsg shifts so fast and really smooth, If it is your daily drivers, get dsg, if u absolutly love stick, then get it
Great review! Hope he is happy with his as I am with mine :) Although I went with the DSG because of the pop noise it makes, that's the only reason. LED taillights should be the first mod that he needs to do!
I own a mk6 gti too, however when you say exhaust note I don't really think that's what you mean. The car has a artificial sound maker called soundaktor under the windshield and that replicates engine noise because the car from factory is so silent. I unplugged mine for real engine and induction noises and find it much more pleasing. I think it's fair to say that the stock mk6 is a very quiet car.
+Danko9889 Yes and yes, you have it and it's always on. If you unplug it the car will become very quiet in the cabin. I had unplugged it for a while but just reinstalled it because shifting a manual without sound to refer to got very annoying...
Very informitave review as always. I do like the GTI's! (nice color choice too!!) They're certainly above the Si in terms of overall fit and finish (and performance) and honestly, I would have purchased a 4dr Autobahn edition if I wasn't pinching pennies. The Si gets at near the performance and quality levels of GTI for quite a few thousand less. That's my two cents anyway..
I couldnt agree more with you! Dont get me wrong i really like this car, but theres something about the fact that its so refined that in my mind it makes me think its not as engaging as other cars. Now I havent driven one so i cant say anything for sure, but thats just what i think
This car has a tremendous amount of power. I was driving the Jetta 2.0T once and it was kind of wet out...pulled out in front of somebody and broke traction, the DSG threw it in 2nd to try and mitigate wheel spin and it still ended up spinning the tires up to 50mph and it wasn't even floored. Such fun! hahaha I love Volkswagen and their crazy good 2.0T engine :D
Premium gas does suck, but it has 14.5 gallon tank and on the highway it does get over 30 MPG so its not too bad. Insurance wasn't as high as I thought it was going to be, but we have a decent driving record
If I had the option, I’d get something like this as a first vehicle. I’m not picky, but if I found a good Gti within a good price range, etc, I’d shoot for it if I could. Seems like a great fun car. I’m most interested in it because I grew up with my dad owning a 1980s Rabbit. They’re fun little cars, while also suiting my personal needs for the 2005-12 models.
What's your opinion on the GTI model from 2005? That's the one that I'm looking at in my city. (16th birthday present... Dad said to pick something out)
I shared with you guys how he likes German cars, but this was my review, I pointed out my gripes with a couple things but as you can see, I really liked the car a lot bc it really is a great car.
Well, a used Focus ST won't be around for at least a year since the new ones won't be out until late summer/early fall. I'm a bit confused why you called this boring when you said you have a GTI Mk6 on your list... lol but the ILX 2.4 would be fun too :)
im willing to go all out. i like the CC's styling but havent researched about it's engines and im liking the GTI's performance and its a small car! which one would you pick though
The car didn't recognize that the driver's door was opened, my sunroof would suddenly open at random times, when ever I tied rolling my windows down they would roll right back up and my tachometer wouldn't work hahaha. It became a huge headache after the warranty was up. I'm sure by now VW has their stuff together. BTW, that color on it looks awesome!
Lol, if you go to 15:51 in the video and see that white HD truck, that's what I mainly drive all day. I drive all over Southern California in a work truck doing repairs at gas stations. But in my driveway I have that truck and a 06 Hyundai Sonata LX.
2010s had their options a-la-carte. So it's possible to find one with HIDs w/AFS, 17s,and a sunroof without the Dynaudio or the leather (that's what I have). 2011 started the packaged options and they only 18" wheels.
Probably a 4 door with sunroof and a 6 speed manual basically the only things my parents want are sirius and the sunroof and my mom wants the manual while my dad wants the DSG. More than likely it will be around this time next year when we get it because the rabbit will be paid for by the end of this summer and the jetta will be about half paid off. My family has a lot of Vw's lol
haha to each their own, I love the high quality interior of the Golf/GTI though, its kind of got this mature, refined, understated, clean look so I guess if you had to criticize it's a bit boring but thats ok with me, I prefer that over the over-styled designs of other cars which will look dated quickly
I know why you were giggling @13:24 and that was funny about the black vw Jetta trying to get around that bus, nice ride, but the exhaust note sounds awkward @10:23
I honestly don't like the CC that much, the styling isn't my "personal" taste but I know its available with either this 2.0T or the VR6. It really comes down to your taste, have you test driven both models yet?
gahh sorry it may have sent my reply as a message, sorry :p Anyway, yeah the GTI that I'm looking at is a 1.8T it appears to be in good shape but it's hard to tell by pictures from Craigslist :p and thanks for the tip! but do you think that it will last a couple years more after 100,000 miles? We don't plan on keeping it forever, and we plan on getting something better when I turn 18.
I'd say go for the 2010, it has the newer TSI turbo instead of the more problematic FSI engine. Plus I like the interior and exterior styling of the MK6 more :)
the only difference between that, this car comes with a turbo from the factory and has full factory warranty, don't get me wrong, you know I love Honda's but I just don't want to mod my new car that much, would rather buy it like that so if something breaks the dealer will fix it lol
Well, where to start... the front grille was missing, hood was dented, passenger headlight was loose... front end damage from a fender bender. Paint looked terrible, rims were badly curb scratched, passenger tire had a bubble in the side wall. Mechanically, it was a mess, CEL is on, Oil pressure light kept blinking and the oil level was fine, tires were out of balance and alignment was off. Made a nasty rumbling noise from the rear wheel between 5-20 mph... it was embarrassing to drive lol
Lol, I made that WAY to dramatic... Anyway, did Jackson like his A6? Because my dad has 2001 and lately it has been giving us a lot troubles. Did his have a lot of troubles with the Exhaust or Axles leaking? Or the transmission because that's been happening to ours... I hope we trade it soon, #CARSHOPPING:DDDD
As much as I like these, I actually find them a bit boring. I think that for my next car, I want either a used Focus ST, GTI Mk6, or maybe Acura ILX 2.4.
I guess jsut cause its so refined. That gives it a boring-ness in my mind, but I have yet to drive one, so I really shouldnt be commenting on whether or not its boring. But i would like to have one bc it is a hot hatch thats also refined. I know I dont make any sense. And, I think the interior looks boring too, looks just like a Golf, which looks like a Mk5 Golf, which looks like a Mk5 Jetta, which also resembles a new Scirocco's interior.... they all look the same to me!
Guys really.. Fantastic car reviews! The best I've seen on TH-cam, no joke.
Maybe they've changed it on the new ones, but another VW quirk is that the horn only works when the ignition is on, but yet you can turn on the radio even with the ignition off! The sunroof is preset to open about 80% of the way because that position reduces wind noise compared to having it fully open.
I drove the dsg, it is AMAZING, as much as i love stick, the dsg shifts so fast and really smooth, If it is your daily drivers, get dsg, if u absolutly love stick, then get it
Nice video Sofyan! Love this car and thank god u got the manual! Please dont ever change it for a DSG :P
Dude you have no idea how addicting it is! Do yourself a favor and test drive one with DSG, it's a lot of fun.
Wow, thank you so much! I greatly appreciate the compliments :)
Great review! Hope he is happy with his as I am with mine :) Although I went with the DSG because of the pop noise it makes, that's the only reason.
LED taillights should be the first mod that he needs to do!
Nice Review Of 2010 Volkswagen GTI. 😁

Damn, I miss my 06 Gti. Even tho it was a bit problematic, the car felt so good driving.

planning on financing a 2013 4 door hopefully by the end of this month. cant wait.
I couldnt agree more with you! Dont get me wrong i really like this car, but theres something about the fact that its so refined that in my mind it makes me think its not as engaging as other cars. Now I havent driven one so i cant say anything for sure, but thats just what i think
good job sofyan, the dsg is a great transmission
This car has a tremendous amount of power. Im legit debating to buy this as a first car now

im willing to go all out. i like the CC's styling but havent researched about it's engines and im liking the GTI's performance and its a small car! which one would you pick though
well, they are two different cars, what do you like about each of them and which is more in line with your budget?
That pop noise must be addicting, its the reason why I sort of want the DSG lol
Haha! That'd be sweet for sure. I'm sure a GTI vs 9th gen Si vid would get some hits for sure.
Make another update on this GTI ! I wanna see some aggressive and calmly shifting
LOVE love love LOVE this car!!! Except for premium gas... How is the insurance cost?
Lol, if you go to 15:51 in the video and see that white HD truck, that's what I mainly drive all day. I drive all over Southern California in a work truck doing repairs at gas stations. But in my driveway I have that truck and a 06 Hyundai Sonata LX.

Thanks! Which trim level GTI are you guys considering?

I got a 2012 fully loaded autobahn always loved gtis had a 2004 as a first car.
Congrats Sofyan.Awsome car with lot of tech and fun to drive.
German > japan.Sad but true.
I honestly don't like the CC that much, the styling isn't my "personal" taste but I know its available with either this 2.0T or the VR6. It really comes down to your taste, have you test driven both models yet?
Great reviews.. do the Gen. Coupe! (2012 model)!!
It's coming up on 3 years old. How are the servicing costs?
Wow this car is awesome!!
awesome review! I like GTIs!
I am looking into a Wolfsburg edition 2013 gti 5 door, 6 speed, candy white with 48k miles for 15,500. Is that a decent deal?
I hope they do bring a Turbo Civic :o, that would be great for Honda!
Does the mk6 gti use more gas in Tiptronic mode, or sport mode? Which one uses more gas?
I love the wheels!
whats wrong with my Fit? Its still really fun to drive and I still love it :P
gahh sorry it may have sent my reply as a message, sorry :p
Anyway, yeah the GTI that I'm looking at is a 1.8T
it appears to be in good shape but it's hard to tell by pictures from Craigslist :p and thanks for the tip! but do you think that it will last a couple years more after 100,000 miles? We don't plan on keeping it forever, and we plan on getting something better when I turn 18.
lol. Right when you mentioned about gas going up again there was a volt at 15:24
Wow, very nice!
why yes, he is :)
i had the g35 coupe and now im wanting the G37IPL
I'd say go for the 2010, it has the newer TSI turbo instead of the more problematic FSI engine. Plus I like the interior and exterior styling of the MK6 more :)
Certified Pre-Owned
r u going to make a 1 month update on it?
is the dsg a good thing so far. i know this is a stick and im looking to buy a used 2010 dsg with 36 thousand plus miles. anyone give an advice
I really like that intierior its so quality
Sexy little hat car :D best color for it IMO lol and with black with on the whites, looks steller!
Ha, I just realized this was filmed in ffx county. Nice.
wait?.........you spunt 400.00 on sunglasses? jk i have a pair of raybans LOL nice car BTW seems very fun to toss around indeed!!
im planning to. but i feel like i want to stick with the lexus is350.
These have Bluetooth?
It's an option.
So it wastes the same amount of gas as it would if it was in Drive?
the only difference between that, this car comes with a turbo from the factory and has full factory warranty, don't get me wrong, you know I love Honda's but I just don't want to mod my new car that much, would rather buy it like that so if something breaks the dealer will fix it lol
I'm from the same area as you!
What kind of plate is on that Altima? Ar 12:31
is it fwd or rwd?
Who's Jackson ?
nice Above and Beyond
Well, where to start... the front grille was missing, hood was dented, passenger headlight was loose... front end damage from a fender bender. Paint looked terrible, rims were badly curb scratched, passenger tire had a bubble in the side wall. Mechanically, it was a mess, CEL is on, Oil pressure light kept blinking and the oil level was fine, tires were out of balance and alignment was off. Im deciding GTI or CC. HELP ME SOFYAN!
Lol, I made that WAY to dramatic... Anyway, did Jackson like his A6? Because my dad has 2001 and lately it has been giving us a lot troubles. Honda does NOT need a turbo engine. The K series with bolt ons and Kpro is a beast and would easily smoke the VW.
is it under 600?
that is a nice car!
Hermoso aunque muy caro.
2 year update!!!!
How much was it ?
Am I the only one who was watching that poor Jetta almost get hit twice by that stupid bus and then notice the CR-V pulled over during the test drive?
oh jeez, electrical of course lol so what do you drive now
Does not make a difference, that all depends how feisty your right foot gets ;)
That continuous beeping I think that's a VW/Audi thing. I know Mercedes doesn't beep like that.
@12:21 MY CAR!
2010 is still very fuckin' new !
It's the 3-door version!!
whats cpo?
poor jetta getting trolled by the bus.
😂
I guess jsut cause its so refined. That gives it a boring-ness in my mind, but I have yet to drive one, so I really shouldnt be commenting on whether or not its boring. your comparing a fit to a GTI?, no gti is comparable to the civic si. Compare the FIT to the base golf.
I know about the beeper right? That's what I hate about the brother in law's Passat.
we don't have gtd's in america :'(
You can also chip a gti or any 2.0t thru apr etc and they can make a good amount of horse power. , @xoquixxoqafxo @noriceformeplz
8:10 he painted his fingernails pink. Maybe he lost a bet 😂
Noah Weichert or maybe that's his favorite color
That's a normal nail bed colour.
How the hell do you drive that high
oh and the front struts were shot... the car rode and wobbled like a Lincoln or Cadillac down the road, it made me soo sick lol
