Unlike a lot of hardcore Rush fans I liked this period of Rush. For me there is no such thing as a traditional Rush album, these guys can do whatever the fuck they want and do it really well. That's always what I loved about this band. Power Windows blew every other new wave/synthrock album out of the water in the 80's.
A lot of people, it would seem, are just turned off by the timbre of the 80s keyboards, which is a shame, because the material on Power Windows is some of the best they've ever done.
Every single track on Power Windows is amazing, I love how they went heavy on the synth/keyboard despite what others may think about it. I'd say its in my top 3 favorite Rush albums.
Funny how songs like these have the power to make one travel time back to one's youth and relive the way we felt back then. Life looked promising, magical almost and uncomplicated those years, didn't it?
Same. I've gone months without crying at his passing. Tthen you mentioned this. Damn. He may not have been able to pretend a stranger was a long-awaited friend, but to us, we knew him better than he knew us. And we loved him anyways. Now I'm off to find paper towel.
This song, along with Marathon, Middletown Dreams, & Manhattan Project are just astronomically phenomenal. Feels like a trip through the streets of a futuristic suburb.
Producer Peter Collins said the vocal sound was one area he could definitely improve. He was right vs gup and there are many multi-harmony parts on PW that they had not tried before.
Not only was Neil the greatest drummer in rock music, he was also the most innovative. This video is a clear example of that. Not only is the grove awesome but the opening scene shows his back facing the front of his drum set (something that had never been done before) because he is playing his second kit opposite side which is made up entirely of electronics (another thing that had never been done before). Plus it was on a revolving drum kit (another first). And keep in mind that his cymbals are now reversed as well and it didn't phase him one bit. He was truly a master of his craft, an innovator, and the most fun to watch. I will always miss his playing.
This song on "A Show of Hands" completed my conversion into a Rush fan. Didnt get to see it live until The Counterparts Tour and again on R30. I absolutely love this song. All-time favorite Rush tune. I Love when then band says Power Windows is one of their all-time best records.
Also throughout this song he is triggering with his left foot. This song shows the level of technical playing ability Neil Peart had evolved. Separating his right and left hands and feet to create some mind bending patterns. That's why I love the intro on Mystic Rythms...
In a Rush marathon going through the discography backwards…This song and Big Money are real standouts, so was Marathon and Manhattan Project…Onward to Grace Under Pressure, see you there fellow Rush travellers!
I actually remember when "Power Windows" album was premiered on our local rock station in its entirety at midnight, on the day of the album release. I remember that I was in my first year college and my buddies were all huddled near the radio in anticipation, knowing that this was going to be the first Rush album that was digitally recorded AND digitally mastered. The luminous seers of Rock had that mystical magic which alluded to much of what was beyond superficial reality and crafted multidimensional music with deep esoteric comprehension. Always loved their music which contained the same enchantment as early to mid period Hawkwind.

Man, what can I say about rush these guys were a different level the 70s and 80s I mean even to this day, I can’t even comprehend songs that complicated is phenomenal. Thank you, Rush you are truly blessed into the Canadian Hall of Fame.
For me Rush was a battle in my mind at 12, their lyrics (spirit of the radio vs PF's the Wall) were far more profound than I could fathom. Every time I saw them in concert, I learned more about ME, the Universe and humankind. Could I now have spent that money on a Maserati, perhaps, but I treasure every moment of their music, their intelligence and their humor. We are so blessed to have had this trio in our lives.
Spent a lot of times overseas in the late 70's and early 80's (Military Brat). We listened to Rush for the 1st time when I was living in Garmisch Partenkirchen in 1980. Saw them on the Signals tour in Sindlefingen/Bobblingen (Stuttgart) and Nazareth opened for them. Never in a million years would I have guessed that in the future I would be at Gibson Guitar having worked my way up to where I was over 3 different departments and have Alex Lifeson stand in my department and I stroll by to have him stop me and talk about building guitars. I even brought up the old youtube vid (if you can find it) of them in the studio doing free will and how I loved his sound that he had on his 335 in that vid. Great person. I didn't recognized him when I was walking by before I was pulled back to talk to him. Still as intelligent as ever but I guess being grown up I was not star struck but still intrigued. All I could think was, who would have thought ? To meet Alex years later when I was such a huge fan in my teens(13) and early 20s.
"The more we think we know about, the greater the unknown". - Neil Peart. My favorite Rush lyric ever. And so Neil Peart. He never stopped learning, and expanding his knowledge!
I have no words to describe the pain of this news, thanks Neil for your contribution to this humanity numbed by consumption and superficiality and where respect and love are an empty garden, but Neil was That gardener who planted the seed that we all must take care of, now it is our turn to take care of that garden that he left us. May Heavenly Providence fill his family and friends with strength. Thank you Professor ... we will love you and always remember. A fraternal hug to all fans in this pain.
I love coming to the comments to see all the people that love rush just as much as I do. Rush fans worship them. I just want to spread the word of Rush.

shelley gorodetzer Yeah, my parents live on the other side of the country and don't have a basement. But don't worry, I'm sure you just assumed all parent's houses have basements like the one you live in.
After hearing "the news" today (January 10, 2020) I don't want me or you to feel sad or cry. I just want to recommend that we all binge watch all of Rush's music videos this weekend to celebrate the band & Neil's contribution to their music.🧡
I'm sorry, but any RUSH 'fan' that doesn't like this era just doesn't understand the band and what the creative process entails...Yes, even the band thinks they wandered a bit far into synth world but, oh, what a wonderful journey! Thank you, gentlemen!
It is important to remember, I think, that these are the same three guys who wrote and recorded 2112, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, etc. It may be a different period of Rush and with different production values/sounds but it is still Rush. And this song is one of my favorites for sure, always something new to find on every listen. Haunting, beautiful, complex when needed for the song as opposed to for its own sake.
To all the Rush pre-1984 purists, this is some of the Rushiest Rush that Rush ever Rushed and you know it. Wait a minute, what am I saying? They're not watching this.
I used to listen to this song in my high school years. I was suffered from harsh bullying, and all the things in the world seemed to being filled with undefinable emptiness and boredom. After back from the school in the early evening, I immediately turned on the audio, opened the window in my room, and just gazed at the red sky with my eyes half-closed, praying for someone I can’t see that he will bring some sacred lights in my busted life...this song was repeated on the background during the daily practice. I still believe someone beyond the sky was not by my imaginations, he surely must exist...
***** That's why the world didn't end, the Mayans were like "Guys, on December 21 2012 the Rush levels will deplete and all will be Belibers!" But no, This video was released when the Rush level was lowest and alas the Rush levels rose to a sufficient level and thus we are still here! :D

Rush was the most diverse band musically. No two albums ever sounded alike.,but even so,they were unmistakably recognized it was them ,at least for the astute and alert rush fan, geedys voice, iconic bass tone and of course, the DRUMS!!!!
I hear that brother we always remember the ones that saved our lives. Rush ,Motörhead ,Iron Maiden just to name a few. My favorite song from this album! I remember when it premiered. My buddies and I in HS would go see them in concert. We got together one last time for the Time Machine tour. Good memories!
I like all the Rush albums, but this is one of my favorites because of the memories it invokes. That’s what I love about Rush, they have so many amazing albums and songs that appeal to so many fans. I can’t think of another band that has been able to do this.
I also have very fond memories attached directly to “Power Windows” It means so much to me on a very basic but hard to define level. These songs hit hard and hit right just when I needed them. I hope that makes sense…
Rest in peace, Neil. This song, along with many others, will forever be a masterpiece. Thank you for your inspiration, and contribution to the music world.
Hey, this same year (1985) it worked for Dire Straits on their song Walk of Life, it became one of their biggest hits. Nothing wrong with synths if they're used right!
Devil's Offspring Much agreed! I’m a fan of almost all synth driven music and especially vintage analog synth sounds, but certainly the way the artist employs their synth palette can make all the difference between a masterpiece and something not as good sounding.
Think about it… how do you begin to come up with a song like this? Absolutely perfect! It can’t just be imagination? A. J. C., III 15 Jan 24 10:06pm and I’ve been jamming this song since it came out!
This album is brilliant. Can't see why anyone doesn't like it. Some people say it's not Rush but in my opinion it's all part of what makes up rush :) . Love the video
I agree this is one of Rush's top albums for sure the crown of the synthesizer era. I don't know people are always hating on the Rush synthesizer era. I know Hold You're Fire wasn't really well received, but every band has some stinkers out there, for Rush Hold You're Fire and Caress of Steel are probably what they would consider there (2) stinker albums. Rush's management I don't think liked Hold You're Fire because after that album there music changed and they got back to harder sounding music, which there management wanted and I know Lifeson had enough of the synthesizer key board era. Geddy Lee was big on the key boards and synthesizer. However this was a good album.
Agreed, the legacy of Rush includes the greatness of all their variations. I'm 50 now, and got turned on to Rush in junior high in the late 70s. Loved their sound immediately and loved hearing them evolve and change, but somehow always remained clearly Rush. With so much variety I have never stopped craving listening to them. The only thing that keeps changing is my favorite album/era. I've never truly settled on a favorite and don't think I ever will. If I go a few months or years without listening to something from Rush, I always find myself rediscovering that something, yet again, and my enjoyment is renewed and reenergized. They just do every variation of themselves so perfectly that you can't help but appreciate all of it.
I'm as big a Rush fan as the next guy, but this is simply not my favorite manifestation. I certainly appreciate it for what it was and what they were trying to get across. That's what makes these three guys so great; they tried everything (except country & western, thank Christ).
Still listening in 2022...RIP professor

Power Windows is an underrated album. I was 15 when I got that one and it's a regular on my turntable.
R.I.P. Mr. Neil "The Professor" Peart. You shall be missed by all us drummers/fans all over the world sir.
Power windows…amazing album from start to finish
this song just blows me away every time its so earthy sounding it just hits you on an almost animal level
Alex Rinaldi this song and High Water have very similar rhythms, almost like an enormous planetary heartbeat that our bodies are attuned to naturally.
It’s more of an African-style rhythm. And their rhythms are just so pure and.....well, mystic
SAW THIS TOUR TWICE , ONCE AT HAMPTON COLISEUM IN VIRGINIA, THEN AT RICHMOND COLISEUM, 1986, TY RUSH
One of the best songs ever written. Period.
I love coming to the comments to see all the people that love rush just as much as I do. Rush fans worship them. I just want to spread the word of Rush.
alex, neil, geddy and his raccoon ;) one of history's greatest songs
Some sick bass lines in there. Oh my!
Underrated video. Visually stunning. Should be held up there with “Sledgehammer” and “November Rain.”
Professor, greatest drummer ever, RIP

I must say that raccoon on Geddy's head is pretty relaxed. It barely moved at all throughout the entire video. Geddy must've trained it well.
haha i fell for it at first then i got the joke
LMAO! AND CAN'T STOP!
Haha, even Geddy hates that style he wore back then!
next time you want to drink a glass of toilet water from your mom and dads toilet in the basement of their house , thank god they're letting you live there for free , don't drink it . you might be able to have some kind of future
shelley gorodetzer Yeah, my parents live on the other side of the country and don't have a basement. But don't worry, I'm sure you just assumed all parent's houses have basements like the one you live in.
RUSH, masters of the universe.
Such a positive vibe to all of us who love them.
RIP Neil, you are deeply missed.
Thank you for all you have given us.
Greatest band ever
🙌💯🎶🔥
RIP Neil, we miss you here man.
Youll never be forgotten.
Geddy with steiberger bass 🤘...Rush Rocks!! 🤘
After hearing "the news" today (January 10, 2020) I don't want me or you to feel sad or cry. I just want to recommend that we all binge watch all of Rush's music videos this weekend to celebrate the band & Neil's contribution to their music.🧡
Doing that right now..!!!
I'm sorry, but any RUSH 'fan' that doesn't like this era just doesn't understand the band and what the creative process entails...Yes, even the band thinks they wandered a bit far into synth world but, oh, what a wonderful journey! Thank you, gentlemen!
The Greatest Band in the History of the World...LONG LIVE Canada...LONG LIVE RUSH!!!!
This is definitely my favorite Rush song!
Amber, you have great taste in music
ALWAYS, ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR
Alex work is just amazing !!!!
To all the Rush pre-1984 purists, this is some of the Rushiest Rush that Rush ever Rushed and you know it. Wait a minute, what am I saying? They're not watching this.
Yes we are
The hardcore ones are.
The lyrics written by a man with the mind of genius, totally at peace with himself.
He's also a frikin great drummer...
+Jim M The good old days, before Neil lost his daughter and wife within 10 months of each other
Well said
+Colonel Kurtz SPOT ON!
+Colonel Kurtz He's said himself ,he's just shy and gets creeped out when people idolize him.
The clearest example that Mr. Peart was one of us, a HFA.
RIP Mr. Peart
❤
I wish I was alive at the time this came out so I could be there when Rush was huge.... My generation has missed out on everything....
Your post is not quite coherent but your appreciation for the song is apparent. I hope your life has improved since.
I feel ya buddy. Hopefully your life has turned out to everything you wanted. 🤗 Sending hugs
Hang tough bro
Beautiful tune
Just have to pat attention my man.it will find you.
Wow that is an amazing post! Thank you for sharing your experience. It resonates with many of us.
Well done friend.
Sometimes my stomach turns to knots when I watch these old Rush videos.
Once upon a time, artists actually had to put effort into writing and composing a song. RIP, music.
Couldn't of said it better. Back in time artists use to have talent...RIP music
RIP Neil Peart, one of my favourite Rush songs
I was 9 when I saw this and for real thought they were gods.
My opinion hasn’t changed.
Funny because they’re atheists
@@comical3303 Many atheists can be and are Buddhists. They believe in the self. That the parts comprise the whole. Life begets life.
The amazing thing about Rush is how they sound progressed so much over the years. All this great music from 3 musical geniuses
R I P Neil Peart. Best drummer from the Band. Your drumbeats will be missed.
the best drummer in the world my heart is heavy with his loss
Neil wasn't in the Band he was in Rush
We missed a man who very inspiratives others on music, hopes born someone like him,Godbless you Nail P..amin.
@@pritaalviani1495 who is Nail P.?
Keep his drumming alive. Play his beats. I have since 1989. Jam the albums. Very loud
Digging the vibes of Rush's "Mystic Rhythms"! 🎶✨
I can't describe in human words how amazing this is... Truly gods among men. Also, this was published on 12/21/12 which is pretty great.
***** That's why the world didn't end, the Mayans were like "Guys, on December 21 2012 the Rush levels will deplete and all will be Belibers!" But no, This video was released when the Rush level was lowest and alas the Rush levels rose to a sufficient level and thus we are still here! :D
This video saved the world...
Priests of the Temple of Sirius
@@clevelandrixiii3415 DiD YOU GET TO SEE RUSH WHEN THEY PLAYED IN CLEVELAND ? 1980 CLEVELAND COLLISEUM, GOLDEN EARING, OPENING ACT ( RADAR LOVE ) , was one of the greatest shows I ever attended, 2112, they PLAYED THE ENTIRE ALBUM, WAS LIFE ALTERING.
Rush was the most diverse band musically. No two albums ever sounded alike.,but even so,they were unmistakably recognized it was them ,at least for the astute and alert rush fan, geedys voice, iconic bass tone and of course, the DRUMS!!!!
One of my favorite Rush songs
NEIL PEART. ONE OF THE GREATEST DRUMMERS THE WORLD WILL EVER SEE & ONE OF THE BEST BANDS(along with YES & KING CRIMSON) THE UNIVERSE WILL EVER KNOW.
Rush has got me through some very rough times. And Motorhead venom andTank
I hear that brother we always remember the ones that saved our lives. Rush ,Motörhead ,Iron Maiden just to name a few. These guys were real like you and me ,they sang about true experience’s and real life events. we can relate to the sound of thundering drums, the lick of the guitar, the thumping bass guitar and deep lyrics joined by a powerful voice! that let’s us know where alive! This is where my best memories lye due to music made by great bands. So cheers 🍻 to music and memories!! (one can not exist without the other).
My favorite song from this album! I remember when it premiered. My buddies and I in HS would go see them in concert. We got together one last time for the Time Machine tour. Good memories!
MY favorite song and video ever!! It has been almost 3 weeks of his loss and | still can't believe Neil is gone...
Countless hours of air drumming.. Neil Peart lives on!
Bless Canada for this gift
Experimental music at it's finest.
I like all the Rush albums, but this is one of my favorites because of the memories it invokes. That’s what I love about Rush, they have so many amazing albums and songs that appeal to so many fans. I can’t think of another band that has been able to do this.
I also have very fond memories attached directly to “Power Windows”
It means so much to me on a very basic but hard to define level.
These songs hit hard and hit right just when I needed them. I hope that makes sense…
R.I.p. Neal Peart, I was happy to go to 3 Rush Concerts in my life time. I enjoyed them all.
Rest in peace, Neil.
This song, along with many others, will forever be a masterpiece. Thank you for your inspiration, and contribution to the music world.
Some people don’t like the heavy synth use period of Rush but I love it! Very atmospheric sounding here.
I’ve been playing this everyday in my car. To and from work, school runs etc, blasting Mystic Rhythms.
I think it can't get more Rush than this. It's the way they should sound.
@@harveyvid Actually, they did do country (kinda, sorta) with the song, Cold Fire.
There was Neil’s kit and Nicko’s kit… what a glorious time ❤
