    I couldn't understand why they disparaged their own mid to late 80s albums. Power windows and hold your fire are still my all time favorites. Let the synth haters hate imo.

      Alex has always been pretty adament on leaving that Rush sound behind. He really wanted to push them away from the synth heavy, jazzier and softer sound of PW and HYF. Another big thing, I just can't see them doing those albums justice unless Geddy busts out the ole' Wal Mk1 again. They have gone back to a few PW songs over the course of the last few tours (I think Big Money, Marathon and Manhattan Project).

      My own Rush journey had started with their 80's albums, and 'Grace Under Pressure' was my very first Rush impression, in '89, and I was instantly hooked already after hearing the opening song, 'Distant Early Warning'! So no, I'm sorry, but I won't fight you! 😄😉

    Love it or hate it: Power Windows was one of the best produced Rush albums.
    PS - I know Lifeson didn't like the 80s synth era of Rush, but damn some of his solos (especially on PW) are absolutely beautiful.

    • @travis8404

      yes Alex solos in the 80s are the best never gets old

    • @Marctull66
      @Marctull66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed.... He did some great ones before, but on Power Windows, just take the masterpiece that is "Emotion Detector" : bass, drums and guitar all make "solos" that are astounding... but Lifeson's melodic part in the instrumental section is plendid, very well crafted... on Marathon, Grand Designs, and later on, on the great Hold Your Fire : Mission, Turn The Page and many other songs on those two albums alone. I mean there are structured, melodic... This is what I like in a guitar solo, most often.
      What is great on those albums is the drum playing, absolutely perfect, astounding. At one point, when I wasn't listening to the melody I was listening to the bass and drums on those albums... this is what makes the tracks progressive and sometimes complicated to play, especially if Geddy had to sing at the same time !

    • @kerryobrien6110
      @kerryobrien6110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think he disliked the 80s music per se, I think they are proud of the vast majority of their work (although both he and Geddy dislike Tai Shan), but at the time he got tired of having to play around the synths.

    Another positive, inspiring work of art from the masters. I very much remember Rush's music getting me through some rough times back in the day. Music that tells you to pick yourself up and keep fighting. Nice. Sad that there isn't as much of that that mindset around nowadays, the focus seemingly having shifted to letting feelings and resentments reign supreme, expressions of frustration and discontent without a willingness to get up out of the mud and carry on....

    Lots of songs have climatic endings . Rush seemed to write them on a different level then most bands. We will never experienced another band like them

    Rip Neil Peart. Who personified the phrase, "a light that burns twice as bright burns half as long". He was an extraordinary drummer, lyricist, and man. Even after all this time I've been a state of disbelief that he's gone.

      Yes, this song only got extensive AOR airplay when it was the lead track/single from A Show of Hands. They are so technically-proficient, it's hard to tell their live performances apart from the studio versions. :)
