Saw an interesting trade proposal from Redbird rants Helsley to Dodgers for Fasso and Miller. I would add Aranado to that and pick up another prospect or 2 as well.
The disparity in income between athletes and teachers/nurses/police/soldiers etc. etc. has grown ridiculous. Imagine Luken/Burly working with a trainer and dietician and coming to camp as actual athletes.
Agree. Burleson worked hard before last season to get in better shape and he improved a lot. He faded in the second half so still needs to work on endurance.
At the start of 24, if you had told me wouldn't be offering Goldy a QO, I wouls have assumed we either A) extended him or B) traded him. The fact that he's just walking? It kinda feels like the ending of "Logan." It happened, and it was just sad. Not how I thought Goldschmidt's career with us would come to a close. It was a good, but wasted, run. Him, Yadi, Pujols, Arenado, Waino, Contreras, and others deserved a better constructed team than what was put together, and the last three seasons are still leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. Thanks for nothing Mo and DeWitt. With that out of the way, I am still cautiously optimistic for the next year or two. Do I expect us to be true contenders? No. Do I beliwve every prospect will pan out? Also no. But, the possibility of a REAL CORE being developed for this team, and one that should be set for another decade of dominance, is quite intriguing. If we can win 70ish games next year, and see even three of our guys step up, I'd be happy with that!
I would like some way to keep Goldy around because he may rebound offensively, but I don't think so. However, defensively, a lot of bad throws and mistakes are prevented by Goldy every game. Masyn Winn had better get a lot more accurate. Nado too if he stays. My opinion is that there are more rhan enough positives past and present, and I think future to make Goldy a legacy type Cardinal. I'm sorry for them that it would cost a few bucks
The risk in making him a qualifying offer is that he would probably accept it, and Goldschmidt just isn’t worth $21.05 million. The only upside would be if he didn’t accept it, which is highly unlikely, the Cardinals would receive a compensation pick. Not worth the risk. Time to say goodbye and move on.
I said last year they should've traded goldy ,arenado last year.. The signings of lynn ,carp and crawford were foolish . Giving miles his 2 year extension was another dum dum move
Of course they did. he's not worth $21 mil/year anymore. Cards know it. Goldy knows it. Rest of the league knows it. He would have absolutely taken the offer and bogged down the roster for another year.
It was the only move that made sense. He was a great cardinal but It is time to move on. Hope they give Contreras a shot at first and hold off till deadline to potentially trade him. If he does well at first then his value goes way up. BTW, no desire to see any more veterans “on the cheap”. Saw enough of that this year.
The only gold glove miss was Siani
.245 with 22 home runs and 65 RBI. Gonna be a tough sell.

Thanks to Goldy, for a fine cardinal run.
Hope he lands on a winner.

Goldy was fun to watch play first. I will miss him. Time to embrace the new Cards.
I think the Baker/Burlson platoon at first base needs serious consideration.

He will get the red jacket!

I think Bakers spot comes down to if they move Contreras or Herrera playing first
Have you looked at who is not on the 40 man that has to be added to make sure we don't lose to the rule 5 draft
There aren't many names. The big ones that you know will be protected.
Paul Goldschmidt: One year, $15MM (was a free article)
Not the thing I looked at LOL
Goldy is not worth $21 million at this stage, more like $12-14 million.

Love the guy but it's time to move on.
👍🏼

Winn will make a lot more errors next season without Goldschmidt to bail him out.
