St. Louis Blues are showing right away: This year's team doesn't quit!
I trade Arenado and Helsey for the reasons you stated. I agree keep Contreras, Gray. (also Fedde) Then spend some of the savings on a starter as good as or better than Gray. Hence and Hjerpe may be ready for the pen, freeing others for trade and compensating for losing others. Extend Wynn and Donovan. Our goal should never be less than winning the Central.❤
This is the only type of signing we will see this year. Mo can't be gone soon enough.
I love this move. Post hype sleepers are a thing, and Barrero has tremendous tools. Probably he's bad, but this is exactly the sort of player you can give a chance when you're in a rebuild moment. This is how you get players like Jose Batista and Jake Arrieta. Again, I'm not saying that's what Barrero will be; the majority of the time when you sign a guy like this he continues to struggle with the same issues he has in the past. But every one in awhile, talented players just take awhile to figure it out, or need just the right coach or change or whatever. Great lottery ticket.
Minor league contract. Nothing hurts giving it a shot. I trust Bloom.
Barrero is recovering from injury well. He is playing in LIDOM for Estrellas were he is hitting .242 with .852 ops in 21 games with 3 HR and a new max ev of 111 mph
He’ll fit right in!
Can you say Michael Siani? Sounds very similar.
Maybe we buy low for once. I like it
Can we send all our hitters thru the Matt Holiday complex this winter????? Cardinal hitting guru
Amen! I want YOU as GM of this organization.
I think we did have that body last year, he just played in the outfield until we traded him to Tampa. Former top prospect that didn’t quite pan out sounds kind of familiar.
Oh it does. But not at SS haha
Barrrero has the look of a stud athlete. Fun fact at one time Barrero and Siani was ranked in the top 10 of the Reds organization. Chaim is out diamond hunting
Good idea, with salaries going crazy,Cards play it smart. Why not give him a shot.
I see nothing wrong in giving a 26 year old ss a chance. Seen way too many players evolve after age 26. This is giving a young man maybe his last shot and I find value in that alone.
I'm with u ! Kids lost 2 plus years because of cov . There is a backup of talent and some will be missed because of it!
I so agree! For 3 years Bob Gibson was questionable. We saw how that turned out
Hey, you never know. Guy could work out to be awesome
Way to Go!
As long as on minor league contract not on 40 man let's see but if not good cut loose in spring
Why do they need SS depth? Waste of time
@@tonycomer1415 did you forget that Brandon Crawford was on this team last year due to their lack of SS depth?
@@bschaeffer12 He SHOULD NOT have been on the team. It was a HORRIBLE signing
@tonycomer1415 but they had .... Wait for it.... No shortstop depth! So that's why they signed him.
@@bschaeffer12 They had Fermin, Donavan and one other who could have played. They also hoped Tommy might be back.
As always, someone goes into a panic over a MINOR LEAGUE signing.
Fermin off the 40 man 🔜🙏
He's hanging on!
New ownership
It’s a very smart move…Bannister was a stepping stone while the team tools up. Monty apparently was OK taking the reins so hurray for Blue note nation.
Two old bald white guys. Will they rven notice the change?
Hard NO on Bohm. The whole purpose of jettisoning Arenado is to free up space for one of our players.
Then why fire Berube initially?
What? Because the team was bad for several years and didn't have the same juice for the style he wanted, was time to move on.
@bschaeffer12 Well Blues ain't that good, so this for sure will be a 5 year plan.
I do really feel for Bannister because I reel did like him as a coach and the team did improve under him last year. But as you said it’s probably not as much about the job Bannister was doing as it is about the opportunity to get the coach they really want. So I’m excited to see what this can do for the team. Because this season is dangerously close to completely falling off the rails
Yes yes yes Banister sucked and I said it when they hired him. After the game last night, buchnevich said we don't work on offense in practice, just defence. I was like, wtf no wonder ur not scoring
With the opportunity to get Montgomery, this move was a no-brainer.
If Boston hadn't of been brain dead and fired Montgomery this wouldn't of happened. At the end of the game last night I told my wife I wonder how hot Bannisters seat is....
Now the Cardinals need to do the same!
It just made too much sense to bring monty back. Plus his wife is from the area and they have a house here already.
Brendan we need that Dylan Carlson update. Is it finally time to sell the penny stocks?
Haha
🤣🤣🤣 Sold the day of his Tampa homer, we are good!🤣
@ 😂😂😂 I’m really hoping some of these former Cardinals end up on the same team next year, would be a fun subplot to the season. Edit* why does TH-cam remove the name now smh
This team has gotten worse over the past several weeks, it had to happen. Look at their record against the Central.
Don’t think this is very fair for Bannister as I just didn’t think the team was very good. Most of these players were here when Berube got let go too and I don’t think anyone would claim he was the problem. However, I understand why this move was made. It’s hard to pass up on a coach like Montgomery.
If I had to take a guess the main reason being is Bannister wasn’t really focused on giving younger players a chance to develop and instead was going with a win now approach and we weren’t winning. So not giving guys like Bolduc, Holloway, Perunovich enough time throughout the start of the year meant a lot I think. I could be wrong
Bannister is a clown, now get rid of Armstrong now
@@aaronanderson16 Yeah, but I’d put a lot of the blame for him wanting to win now on Armstrong because it was pretty clear management and ownership was wanting to push for the playoffs this year (even though I think they should’ve embraced more of a youth movement this year)
Now if the Cardinals could do the same
Army showing Mo how its done. AGAIN!
Not shocked at all 😅
I think i’m more shocked they did it on a road trip! It felt like he would be back, but I also wondered if another team would grab him even sooner lol
I would love to see the Cardinals do three things. 1. Stick (primarily) to letting the kids play. 2. Save money for next year. 3. Go out and sign ONE strong starting pitcher (someone like Max Fried). Even if we were to sign Fried, I doubt he's signing for that much more than what Goldschmidt was getting paid last year. Couple that with the fact that Lynn and Gibby are off the books, even if Fried would command a $30 Million AAV, the Card's are still DEFINITELY saving money, but are also loading up for an explosive 2026. Plus, if you have another guy to pair with Gray, and even one of our guys (say, McGreevey) emerges as a truly solid starter, imagine a rotation of 1) Gray, 2) Fried, 3) Pallante, 4) McGreevey, 5) Either Hence, Graceffo, or whoever is the most ready. That rotation in 2026 sounds like it would be the best we would've had in well over half a decade! As for this year, signing one guy (again, we'll stick with Fried as the example here) still "lets the kids play," but also bulks up our rotation for when injuries, inevitably, strike. Matz feels like we can expect him to miss at least 7-10 starts annually, and I would be much happier just moving on from him as a starter, save for the spot-start here and there. He's far better in the bullpen, and like Libertore, I don't want to mess with that. As for Mikolas, you could run him as a "6th" starter. Obviously, you let guys like Gray, Fried, and Pallante pitch every fifth start, but given that the younger guys are probably not quite ready for the full workload, letting them have a buffer guy could help in their development. Plus, we at least get some use out of the Lizard King's last year on the books. I'm not opposed to getting Quintana, but again, I would seriously consider (if I were in charge of the Front Office) going out and signing one truly good-to-great starter. Better to have too many starters than not enough.
Not going to get any value for Nado. Dude is washed.
We're rebuilding. Trade Arenado.
I can't imagine Mikolas not being part of the rotation this year. They're already paying him and he takes the ball every 5 days. They just dropped two options for guys they hired to do exactly that. He pitched to a 4.24 FIP and still was worth 2 fWAR, the third highest from a Cardinals pitcher in 2024 behind Gray and Helsley. His trade value is nearly nil. It just makes sense to keep him.
@@bloggersniffle5358 i agree with your take
yes it makes sense if you want to lose games...
The biggest need is to convince fans that they care about winning again. The nightmare with Contreras in 23 is a good example of a poorly run team. Let’s see improvement in the running game on both sides of the ball. Solid defense and better situational hitting. Regular communication about what it looks like in the minors where the money is being spent.
Helsley n nado 2gather in same trade, really. Helsley saved your season frie ds. Without him cards would ofbeen way below 500 n at a total franchise rebuild.
The leftside of infield is stronger with him
No trade clause, balls in his court period. Personally, I'd keep him as he dug himself a hole at the start of season. Than finished a clutch hitter in seasons end. I wouldn't produce either with the hitti g coach they or may even have now. Besides look who the CARDINALS kept 2 manage this what ever they want 2 call it. 2 me its called in it 2 win n if u can't do that then get out of the gm... And who's on 3rd Walker ,Gorman Saggesse hmmn Only NOLAN n if your not happyby trade deadline pull the trigger then
Their biggest need are coaches who can get the most out of the players. Cutting loose of the dead weight on the coaching staff will have to wait until Mo is gone.
The biggest need/focus this offseason should be lottery tickets. Look for the diamonds in the rough that can turn into contributor/glue guy types for the next iteration of winning Cardinals baseball
They already are Munoz, Gomez and Barrrero
Matz to the pen.
Matz to North Korea
Matz is a huge failure!
Well he might have one more shot here
@ I’d keep him in the pen
His health has failed. He is actually a good pitcher
Shane Bieber, Corbin Burnes
man im sad kloff got non-tendered, dude hopped on some twitter gc's before the season, cool guy!
The biggest need, is let the kids play. Maybe pick up Romano on the cheap if Helsley is traded?
Farm system, dump salary, rebuild. Hand it off to MrBloom. No need to spend on wildly expensive FAs.
