Several important points touched upon in the debate. Transparency in political funding & decriminalization of politics surely will give a headstart for a cleaner politics & elections. Thanks to Mr FRP for a well informed discussion
the recent issues surrounding political parties have raised debates whether rti should cover parties or not the 2013 judgement is to be revised why non transparency in political parties? - issue of criminal records - anonymous funding and spending - no clarity on basis for nomination - certain acts do not cover activities of politicians OUTSIDE parliament e.g.- anti defection law issues with bringing it under rti - lead to pendency of rti applications - there is no clear cut statutory and constitutional status to parties, bringing rti to such unclassified entities can make rti procedures vague - misused by other political parties on other opposition - discourage the democratic process of campaigning which is contact between party and people potential benefits - parties are also an element of doubt for citizens and not only statuary organisations . they are accountable to the public - it can increase voter turnout when it is made transparent - it can reduce corruption and upheld rule of law - upheld free and fair elections- smaller parties will perform fairly if excess funding to bigger parties is checked way ahead - a national election fund to make it more transparent - an exclusive law dealing with parties just like in other countries rti should not be imposed immediately ..there should be an holistic approach so that healthy democratic process like campaigning and funding is not curbed. these are good acts unless misused .
Electoral reforms-- 1. Funding of political parties should be made public 2. Stop contesting election from two places at the same time. Becz it wastes a lot of public money 3. Political parties should be under RTI act. 4. A law should be made for strict implementation of manifesto

scrutiny of manifestos, preventing criminals from contesting, having 1 extra vote doesn't make you win the election, national election fund (which manage the collection and keep eye on spending), My suggestion: there should be a process where people can put there voice, for example, to bring Lokpal Anna Hazare did Anshan, instead of that Indians should be able to tell the government what they want. (but for that, we need to do the voting but voting is not an easy process, so there must be some innovative ideas on how to speed up the voting process)
