Also, no toilets at the cafe half way up. And nothing found at the top either unless accessed by the train? There were people sat eating at tables inside the train station at the very top somehow..? Best advice I can give to anyone, don’t listen to all these help guides telling you to take everything you can incase of emergency, it’s harder carrying all that food and drink up with you to only carry most of it back down again unused. I carried about an extra 10kg which could have been left behind and would have made my walk a lot easier. Sticks are for those who’ve already had a hip replaced, and shorts are for idiots still showing off their new leg tattoos, it’s cold up there, no one believes otherwise just because you’re wearing shorts, you’re not brave, you’re just stupid. 👍🏼

This , by far , is the best video on Snowdonia hiking guide yet it has only 10k views. Other videos have way more like 50k and more just because they have less substance but more silliness . Thank you for this video mate, you have drawn the picture of the entire hiking with surgical precision.

Little update, we did It yesterday morning, 2.35am. We managed to get up to the top at precisely 4.35am. I had no idea we will be so fast, this was just our second mountain hike, but I guess our training prepared us well...😅✌
+ the OS app was pure gold, and I only found It through you! Major game changer during a night hike, especially with the few unclear paths.
We meet an English man while going down who waited the whole summer for the weather report to be as good as yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic!

Too many comments to search through to check if this has already been mentioned but you cannot guarantee a train back down the mountain. You cannot book a one way return ticket. You CAN book a one way UP the mountain and hope for a spot on the return train but you cannot book one. (based on current Feb 2023 search of tkt purchase) Train doesn’t go to summit until May 13 so you need to walk the rest to the top but then not guarantee train back down. (Basically need to plan for a complete walk back down to car park). The 1/2 hour train stop at Clogwyn station wouldn’t allow you to reach summit and get back for return train ride. Hope this helps someone 😊

Rocky Harp Hi it will take ~ 5-6 hours, to summit and back to llanberis. Of course depends on fitness level. I am sure you will enjoy the hiking. There is plenty of free parking, just look around, need to come early in the day. But if you wish to park in a paid car park, there is plenty again costs £5 to £10 pounds. Path has been improved significantly in the last few weeks. Rest of info in the excellent video by Bold Adventures.

I prefer the snowdon ranger, or Rhyd-du paths, the Llanberis path is my least favorite, its long and relatively boring and packed. But the best route up is via Y Lliwedd, but that has a short section of mild scrambling. You can do a nice loop from teh Nantgwynant car park, up the path to the disused mine, cross the grass slopes up to Gallt y Wenallt, follow the ridge along to Y Lliwedd, then up to the summit (up scree here but not bad), then back down the watkin path, or Allt Maenderyn, stopping in the valley to have a dip in the pools and enjoy the waterfalls, then back down to the car park.

    • @qualitymountainday

Thanks for the great comment, I mean the pyg track will be fine with a family, depends on they're capability and fitness level obviously. But both paths are a great hike. I'll do one for the pyg track soon as I know that's one of the most popular paths hiked on snowdon.

I found the Miners path to be excellent for the first 3/4, last section was hard as I'm 54, overweight and unfit. Took my time and had plenty of breaks but got up there with no issues. The decent down to Llanberis was a different story, I felt it was s lot longer, fatigue set in half way down and I pulled my knee, I was in considerable pain by the time we'd got to the car. Wish now I'd parked by the hostel and done Miners up and Pyg down, steeper but a lot shorter for this fat old boy.

If you can find a spot to camp then I guess you could however snowdon is the busiest summit in the UK day & Night with all the Snowdon night hikes & 3 peak challenges on every week. So it'd be difficult to be at the summit undisturbed on any night. I could be done if you bivvy instead of camp, and are selective about where you decide to put your camera. I wouldn't leave it on the summit itself though as there will be a lot of people passing by it at night also.
