For anyone going to Snowdonia make sure you have some good gear and waterproofs, it most certainly will rain.
When I did the three peaks back in 2014 Snowden fell on the sunniest day and the skies cleared coming down, I gotta say that half an hour jog down felt so easy. Can't say the say on the two other days with their torrential rain.

Great to see you enjoying our islands, guys. I love the genuine excitement and pleasure you exude.
But please be a bit more careful when hill walking or climbing here in future. The weather can change very quickly and you need to be prepared for that. Strong footwear, layers, hat, waterproofs and some food and drink are the bare essentials. Especially if you head North to do The Ben.
Our Mountain Rescue Teams are volunteers and they get called out far too often because people (including us natives!) just aren't prepared.
Thank you for posting your lovely videos of this weird and wonderful place.

      Hi again. o/
Main tip for things like Snowdon, Cadair Idris, Blencathra et cetera: get there to day before, sleep there and set off early. The sooner you get up there the longer you get to spend at the summit waiting for a gap in the clouds and that perfect view before you *have* to come back down and the more likely you are to be back before everything shuts down ...
... including the sunlight. Being back down before the sunlight shuts down for the night is quite important.
Minor tip: if you thought that bit you showed was vertical and scary you'd find the Scale Force path exciting. It has ... moments.

Well done reaching the summit! I was in south Wales over the summer and hiked a section of Brecon Beacons and absolutely tuckered myself out,. And that wasn't nearly as taxing a hike as Snowdon, I'm sure. Love Wales!

  • @kerjumbled9254
    @kerjumbled9254 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I love how all the locals are like 'please be more prepared when hiking in th UK'! It's so true! We may not have the highest mountains but we do have some of the most unpredictable weather which can create havoc!
So strange to see you commenting on how bad the weather got! I mean for rainy Wales... you had it good! lol We went up Pen Y Fan (Brecon Beacons) on a day that started with hail in Cardiff and low lying cloud, ended up being one of the hottest days of the year and the day some soldiers in training died from heat exhaustion. I've climbed many places in the world, but Wales has got to be the most changable I've experienced.
Having said that, awesome shots of the Welsh hills!

Eric and Allison, I highly recommend you look for TH-cam videos of the Mach Loop which is in Wales. The Mach Loop is a set of valleys, situated between Dolgellau in the north, and Machynlleth in the south (and from which the Mach Loop gets its name), which are regularly used for low level flight training, with flying as low as 250 feet (76 metres) from the nearest terrain. The RAF and the USAF train there. The videos of the jets along with the breathtaking scenery are really fantastic. I've never seen them 'in real life' but regularly watch on TH-cam. Great video btw. I really enjoyed it, thanks.

I can't believe you guys went up the Pyg track (and with minimal gear!) The Pyg track has some really steep and difficult parts. If you do visit again, come in summer on the clearest day you can, because the view from the summit is breathtaking. I highly recommend the Llanberis track. It's the most gentle route to the top, unless you count the train of course :) loved the video and have subscribed

I watched this when you first posted. Really appreciated that you visited North Wales and enjoyed all those vlogs.
On rewatching, I’m thinking you would have been better just doing the ‘trail’ up Snowdon from near where you parked. It looks like you were near the Watkin Trail in Nant Gwynant. Yes, it’s more of a climb, as you start at a lower altitude, but it’s not that much more difficult than the trail you took, and you wouldn’t have had the problems with transport that you experienced. We’ve done most of the Snowdon trails, our favourites being the less busy routes from the Snowdon Ranger (there’s a YHA hostel at the base) and the Rhydd Ddu route.
Having grown up in North Wales I suggest that anyone wanting to walk up Snowdon check out weather reports before setting out. It’s a mountain that is notorious for casualties, even in summer. In other seasons it claims a lot of lives. I guess people think it’s not that high and it has a touristy train to the summit, so must be pretty easy? Out of the summer season a combination of ice and gentle slopes above precipitous cliffs can make it lethal.

Another great video!! It's worth pointing out, as others have, that many people treat Snowdon & Helvellyn as Sunday strolls but are ignorant about just how fast really bad weather can roll in. It doesn't take much in the way of wind, rain and cloud to make you wish you'd bought serious outdoor weather gear.

So pleased I stuck with this video, as it turned out to be awesome! Never seen one of yours before and I don't normally subscribe to big channels but I have to watch your Helvellyn video, (as I love that climb) as well. At first I was like... What, it this amature hour, late start, no proper equipment but continued watching and it was a real fun, well produced and edited watch. I have done the 3 highest peaks in the UK and Snowdon was the one that left me totally underwhelmed. To be fair, we were forced (due to a friends bad knee) to take the tourist (Llanberis) path and the weather was pants all the way to the top, so we never got a view either lol. Good to see you got down and eventually, back to your digs safely. Great watch, cheers Alan

My wife and I made the mistake of climbing snowdon one autumn when the weather was nasty. Took us a few hours to get up there but then my back and legs gave way and I couldn’t see myself getting back down and it was getting dark. The last train down was full and we were starting to worry about how we would get back. Thankfully the staff took pity on us and let us ride the staff train down for free. I’d love to hike it again, but sadly my body has other ideas.

It's the UK stay in one place 45minutes and the weather will change Snowdonia is especially fun only a local can judge it.
Note when hiking in the UK always carry a poncho and a jumper
It's guaranteed to rain and drop several degrees.Enjoy the UK glad you're back.

I've hiked to the top of Snowdon /Yr Wyddfa twice; each time it was so cloudy at the top that there was no view at all (on the 2nd trip it was thundering and lightning on the way down, which was a bit scary).

We went up to Snowdon by train couple of years ago. The journey up was really beautiful but as we reached the top it was such a thick fog that we didn’t see anything at all from the top. It was a sunny, beautiful summer day down there but by the time we reached the top it was all covered with fog... Still, was worth the ride.

I like going up the Pyg track and Down the miners track like you did, as you head back south from where you parked, there is a pub called the Pen Y Gwryd hotel which is where Edmund Hillary based himself for the training exercises for the sucessfull Everest attempt.

The best way to experience Snowdon is to go in along Crib Goch, wouldn't advise it on a foggy day though.

You should try walking the dam wall at Llyn Brenig when the RAF planes fly over and down the valley, really noisey and awsome.

A friend and I did this hike in complete fog. It was cold and damp the whole way and the store/shop at the top was closed - no escaping the cold! Nice to be able to see the views through your video! If I find myself back in Wales I'll have to give it a second try! :D
