    This is truly a really well done and executed scene. He could have just acknowledged the request but he went further and released his men from Duty. I'd like to think that by doing that he gave them the choice following whatever path they want

    • @jkdragonjk6895

      Alternatively, it’s one last fuck you to Eorzea. That by releasing his men, they won’t be forced to work with the enemy, and he won’t either cause he takes his own life shortly after. So instead of the eorzeans having a cooperative legion in the field that has been operating in the region to help them out, they will get no organized help from Garlemald and will have to complete there objectives by themselves

    • @vfvs11a
      @vfvs11a ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jkdragonjk6895I definitely didn't get that impression at all, I think he cared enough about his own men to release them to return home since there was nothing left for them there. He took his own life because he had just watched everything he had ever known and "loved" crumble to dust.

      @@vfvs11a multiple things can be true at once. You very well might be right, but he absolutely could have kept his men in service and helped the eorzeans as an organized legion. But instead he decided to let his men do what they wish, which would include people going home instead of helping the Eorzeans.

    Story in Garlemald is goddamn dark, only some part of it is heartwarming. One of the things that sticks with me until now is when I talk to a female soldier and she calls me something akin to 'Butcher of Eorzea' because she was in Castrum Meridianum and she saw me slaughtered her fellow soldiers and friends in the dozen like they were nothing.
    I want them to go deeper into that in future patches, instead of having people admiring you all the time, i want them to send us into Garlemald to help its people and exploring what the Garlean citizens think of "The Butcher of Eorzea". I want to know how they would react if they know who we are.

    I never would've suspect that I'd feel sympathy for a group like the Garlemalds. From the beginning, all you mostly knew of them, besides their reasoning and purpose, is that they're the bad guys. These guys raiding other nations to claim as their own.
    It was then as the story continues, that you start realizing they're not the big threat that one would turn out to be, but have been mere pawns in a chess game for the Ascians that went for decades.
    All they really had left for the most part is just their pride and dignity as a proud Garlean, grunts under the impression that they're going to handle things in Eorzea under their conditions, until we, the WoL came in, foiling their plans, becoming an obstacle in they're future projects, eventually becoming this 'feared slayer' who surpasses even the mightiest of primals. Bit by bit, expansion by expansion, they're conquest was crumbling until now, with not only by our influence, but becoming just mooks to a greater threat thanks to workings of Fandaniel and Zenos. Lords, who were once heroes or examples to Garlean soldiers, are reduced to shadows of their former selves. Quintus stuck with his guns, and believed that one day, if they wait just a little bit longer, they'll get their chance, until it was over before it even begun. They lost, the war is over, and like some prideful figures, refused to continue on aligning with the likes of us no matter how hard we tried. Rough as his end was, he did the right thing to relieve his men from duty to have their second chance with the Eorzea, but putting the past behind them, and working together.

    • @kaihedgie1747
      @kaihedgie1747 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I mean, they were a big threat and the entire game up till now has only been beatin' their overbearing presence over your head. The only reason they don't seem so threatening is because their military's wiped out. Though you are right, the empire's integrity was shown to be sorely lacking early on and many of its higher ups didn't quite actually believe in the unification they advertised.
      When Solus died without naming a successor, no one went for the democratic approach to elect a new ruler. Instead, they went at each others throats enacting a civil war fighting for the throne. For power. No better, in fact worse than the "savages" they so proudly scoffed at.

  • @Dope6oyzInc
    @Dope6oyzInc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    With the years Quintus has spent at war, his pride in his men as a warrior is the only thing that has kept him alive. It was at this moment i realized in his mind it would die with him on the battlefield. "Pride" is truly one of Man's greatest pits of demise. A dark power we should never entrust or rely...

    • @vfvs11a
      @vfvs11a ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't quite think it was pride. I think Quintus was a lot like Gaius, he truly loved Garlamald, and he had just for all intents and purposes watched it die a rather gruesome death.

      Well over the years, pride has had this redefinition where it no longer had its original presentation as a sin. What Quintus succumbed to was pride in its originality: an overly nationalistic and loyal view of his home that prevented him from exercising humility toward his “enemies” when he probably knew that the writing was on the wall long before they arrived.
      And rather than releasing that pride, he gives into it with his suicide, because he no longer had anything to show to his soldiers and the people who depended on his leadership.
