how long and heavy is your boat and were you giving it all she had out of the hole? im thinking about putting one on a 21 ft grady white and wondering how it will push it. the engine will be the 19 model.

Funny enough, I have an answer. I worked at a marina that use to rent out 21' grady white center consoles with 150's. Always got complaints that they were underpowered and didn't plane well. Every time I took them out myself, I could only get them to about 35-37mph fully trimmed out with just myself on the boat. Grady's are very heavy boats and require a little more power than a 150. I'd recommend a 200 if possible and if not, maybe the new 175 models. If you put a 175 or 200 with a 14 1/4 x 17 prop on there it should perform quite well. Typically you can get a good performing boat to about 43-45mph at 5400 rpm trimmed out a bit.

@@codylujan i decided to stick with the 225 only because i return from offshore a lot fighting an outgoing tide running with the swells that can get to be around 3 to 6 ft high spread out for about 4 miles before i go through the jetties. it takes all 225 horses just to go up and over those waves and on to the next sometimes. other than that, ida gone with the 150. love the boat though, great for waves. thanks for answering my question. happy boating.

you're going to need alot more than a 150 on a 21ft Grady White, one of the strongest, heaviest, most seaworthy boats on the water. IMO, which means nothing in the great scheme of things, the minimum power I'd put on your 21 Grady would be 200, ideally I'd put a 250 on it which will use less gas than the 150 because you'll need to be running the 150 at a much higher power setting than the 200 and possibly even the 250 to achieve the same speeds. Thinking you'll save on gas with a 150 isn't how it will work out, you'll probably use more.

I have a 99 Grady White 208 Adventure with a 2006 Yamaha 150 TXR and with a full tank of fuel (82gal) and my wife and 2 kids it jumps right off of plane without issue. Cruses at 28mph at 4300 rpm where I get the best fuel economy.

this has got to be the worse sounding outboard motor I've ever heard, and I've been boating since 1972. I'm not saying anything about its reliability, just that it sounds like a sewing machine. I was bummed Evinrude E-TECH and E-TECH G2, the last of the 2 stroke outboards went out of business and Mercury went all 4 stroke.

Good, 2 stroke aren't good for the environment. Besides they are inefficient and cause a lot of unburned fuel

These are awesome outboards. Way more reliable than 2 strokes. They have a really nice pur to them. Just because you seen one video on the internet doesn't mean they’re bad….
