Excellent guide. Thanks! I took a punt on a dirt cheap IV with no power but a like new body from a reputable seller - reported no LEDs, no life at all. From experience with compact cameras, I know that half the time this is simply a ribbon cable coming loose. Usually battery to main board or top control board. Followed your steps to get to the main board. Disconnected and reconnect all cables, battery in and voila! I now have a fully working IV for next to nothing and an hour of my time.

Hi i have the same camera. It works well excepts for some problem: when left in a cold place (under 10 celsius degrees) it loses the settings data and it prompts asking to insert language and time. The other problems, the battery gauge doesnt work, it doesnt appear on screen with any display setting. Also i cant change the display brightness (function not available, the menu tells). I think this is in some way is related to the battery gauge problem. What do you think it can cause the problems and what i should try to check? Thanks in advance, the video is really useful!
Hi TAKEAPART, I have a RX100 V showing zero signs of life, no charge light, not even that red light process error, thing won't even charge on a full battery. Will try to replace mainb Great work!

I recently dropped my Sony rx100 IV on the floor and it cannot be turned on since. I went to a camera shop to get it fixed but they told me it could not be fixed because there were problems with the circuit. Do you think I can still find replaceable circuits because these cameras are really old. + there were no signs of the red light unlike the video
Hi! Im having exactly the same problem in my rx100 IV. Do you think that by using not original micro usb cables might have helped to do the damage? Thanks a lot for this guide! It was the only true help i found
Hi Babube, Yes! This is what happened to mine. You need to use the more expensive phone style micro-USB Charger. The cheap ones will fry the motherboard. Our countermeasure to stop this from happening again is to purchase the external battery charger (Sony ACCTRDCX) and never using the micro-usb port on the board.
Hello, I have the same model of camera and the error is: when I turn it on, the lens automatically comes and goes and the photograph cannot be taken. Do you know what happens to him? Best regards, Rafael.
Nice video! keep up with good work! My RX100VA is currently does not recognize memory card. And red light blinks 4 times when I put SD card in. Is this on motherboard or SD card slot?
hi, I would say sd card slot …. look inside with torch(look for bent terminals) if the terminal/ s are not broken you should be able to straighten them out with pair of tweezers. thanks for support and watching!
After research, I strongly suspect it to be a power issue (over or under voltage, or short circuit) then when detected prevents the image processor to start. The rx series are designed to be debugged through usb, using a multi terminal protocol cable (15 pins). So, normally, if you take out the battery and plug a USB cable, it should bypass the hang event and boot intime a certain step, and you should the encounter some functionality issues because a par le the board shutdown itself to prevent any further damage. The mtp USB port has uart access and it's enabled in the Sony rx kernels. I've ordered a mtp USB connector and I'll try to access the UART console, so I could examine logs and boot sequence. I've learned that those Sony boards are strongly inspired from beaglebone boards, which are almost impossible to brick. So the most probable issues are physical damages. (Ribbons, internal battery, capacitors, DC/DC converters...)
My RX100 IV was completely dead, no signs of life whatsoever. I think it was caused by using a cheap micro-usb charger. I purchased a new board on eBay (the AliExpress link no longer works) and installed it following these instructions. A couple things to note: The video skips the removal of the control buttons. They fortunately slide off and the ribbon connector just pulls out. The video puts the lower left ribbon cables UNDER the copper plate. The factory routing has them OVER the copper plate. Not sure if this makes a difference. My antenna glue (to glue the antenna to the main board) was no longer functional. I used the tiniest amount of Clear Gorilla Glue to re-adhere the antenna. It worked well. There's no need to glue the antenna to the body, it just tucks underneath the outer case. Be careful adjusting the rear cover screws. The center two screws can interfere with the flash release. If the flash release no longer works, simply loosen one of the two screws until it does. I did not find any need to purchase new thermal pad. You can re-use the old one from the old chip without issue. After re-assembly, the camera works great! This video was extremely helpful. However, this is NOT an easy thing to accomplish. It is very doable if you take your time.
