It's time for me to admit, I listen to this performance of Etude 2 many times a week as a form of stress relief and escape from the insane time we live in. Wonderful interpretation by Batagov.
Merci pour ce beau commentaire, que je partage (en Français,!). La Musique n’a pas besoin de traducteurs, les cerveaux la reçoivent, l’acceptent, l’interprètent chacun selon ses capacités, son héritage culturel.
Your playing is just beautiful, Anton. I discovered this piece on youtube, performed by Yuja Wang. I listened to several other very good pianists perform this, but none of them did anything for me. I read that your recording is the best, so I looked and found you here. This is my first time listening. Your interpretation and speed are different, and it makes no difference to me. I love Yuja Wang's interpretation and now I love yours, too. There's someone's soul in this---yours. Thank you for posting this.
One thing (out of many) I love about these etudes is how much of Glass's prior works they include, making it available in piano form for us amateurs to play and study. And yes, we can only dream of even approaching Batagov's virtuosity and interpretive skills.
I have loved Philip Glass and his hypnotic and beautiful works for years. I just got some of these etudes played by the NYU Steel Drum group and it is a very lively and interesting version. His music is so open to so many variations, from piano and guitar, to steel drums, harps, and vibraphones!
Anton Batagov is one of the most talented, beautiful musical souls I've encountered in my life. This is one good thing about recording devices and the internet. (But can you imagine how great it would be to see him in live performance!)
Call me a Philistine, but while the SOUND of live performance might be preferable, sitting in a row facing a stage in the presence of other people who cough, rustle papers, emit into the air what THEY consider pleasant smells, and talk does not appeal to me. I'd rather light a candle in a darkened room, lie on the carpet or sit back in an easy chair with a cup of good coffee and just give myself over to the music.

Will it be heretical if I say that Mr Philip Glass is interpreting the spirit of J S Bach for us in the late 20th /early 21st century? Mr Glass has his own inimitable way of presenting musical ideas which may not appeal to all but here Mr Anton Batagov's sensitive , technically brilliant interpretation surely will beguile all lovers of beauty. Many thanks for sharing this performance.
I agree Glass's keyboard compositions have a JS Bach feel to them sometimes! But mostly I am stunned by the sheer beauty of these Etudes and by Mr. Batagov's pure love of the music he makes -- his soul, his technical skill, interpretation, sensibilities... Both Glass and Batagov are world treasures.
@@4Topwood the great thing about music is that it is subjective and as listeners, we are free to interpret it according to our mental getup at the time of hearing it. I'm intrigued that you're thinking of Schubert , I'll definitely listen again to see if I can make the same connection. Thank you and best wishes, Sakuntala Basu, India
Suddenly so romantic (Nr. 8) 🙂! I like this interpretation. Through intelligent use of pedal, articulation and dynamics the performer adds variety and emotion to Glass' repetitive and kind of mechanical style.
I would love to see you play here in NYC!!! You are one of my favorite contemporary composers. Saw you play two studios at the BAM (with Philip Glass), and nothing more!! Come to NYC!

I listen to Etude No. 2 frequently. For me, It defies description, it is transcendental.
Same. Love this. Work from home, frequently have this on in the background.

I can't imagine these etudes being played any better than this. The crispness and rhythmical lilt and accuracy are out-of-this-world.

It's amazing how Glass' music has perhaps the widest door opening for interpretation than any composer I know.
This is so true and also it is the essence of an Etude.

Я согласен от всего сердца.
Fabuleuse interprétation, complètement assumée, solide. Merci! :)
The first etude, so little played, is a true masterpiece wonderfully executed here
So simple and yet inexplicably beautiful and moving.

I was thinking the same thing. It's as he Glass has discovered a formula for the music he writes just as Bach seems to have done in his time.
Glass's music reminds me of Schubert, not Bach.

Moonlight Sonata. Same concept. Just using pivot chords.
only one word for this GORGEOUS!
I really enjoyed the etude 6 interpretation, very different but makes a lot of sense
Outwardly beautiful ... Thanks for uploading!

That's called "playing the music".
If you listen deeply enough, it's not repetitive. It's like an evolving mandala. It's all in the micro details. That's Glass.
It’s hard to trust a person, while the music gives you a moment to relieve and secure yourself, it’s fine

musique et interpétation: un délice!

Excellent playing and sound quality !!! Superb, really .
Just fantastic performance! Thanks for sharing!!
Very intellectual performer. He has conversations with all his works.
Coeur sur vous! Heart on you!
Wonderful performance.
I'm currently learning the first piece in this video. It's a really beautiful piece and hope to improve my playing
Really beautiful!

6-й этюд абсолютно фантастический
¿Alguien sabe dónde puedo conseguir Distant Figure interpretada por Batagov?
nice background music
Do you know where he got the sheet music?
It's publicly available - I purchased it on amazon.com -- just look for the Glass Etudes ca 2017
the sheet music shop
Interesting. He manages to make #3 sound almost more Reich-like than Glass-like ☺️
Brought Prokofiev 7th Sonata, 3rd mvmt to mind
Sehr sensible Interpretation. Das kommt der Musik entgegen.

Etude 6 ...
It struck me that Pink Floyd uses a lot of this type of schema.
Spoiler alert. Google shows its lack of class by inserting ads in the middle of the piece.
as Mozart said to Salieri, "...and the rest is just the same right?"
While I love Glass' music and I think that calling him repetitive is a cheap shot and misses the point, I think your joke was great.
@@vassman1 I understand Glass based his inspiration on Gamelan from Bali and Java. That fine music need not be based on a song based structure etc. .
Did Mozart mean the music or the life? Glass (whom I ignored for forty years) puts you in the sacred now. Nothing to do with linear time.
