    It's time for me to admit, I listen to this performance of Etude 2 many times a week as a form of stress relief and escape from the insane time we live in. Wonderful interpretation by Batagov.

      Merci pour ce beau commentaire, que je partage (en Français,!). La Musique n’a pas besoin de traducteurs, les cerveaux la reçoivent, l’acceptent, l’interprètent chacun selon ses capacités, son héritage culturel.

    Your playing is just beautiful, Anton. I discovered this piece on youtube, performed by Yuja Wang. I listened to several other very good pianists perform this,but none of them did anything for me. I read that your recording is the best, so I looked and found you here. This is my first time listening. Your interpretation and speed are different, and it makes no difference to me. I love Yuja Wang's interpretation and now I love yours, too. There's someone's soul in this---yours. Thank you for posting this.

    I can't imagine these etudes being played any better than this. The crispness and rhythmical lilt and accuracy are out-of-this-world.

    One thing (out of many) I love about these etudes is how much of Glass's prior works they include, making it available in piano form for us amateurs to play and study. And yes, we can only dream of even approaching Batagov's virtuosity and interpretive skills.

    I can't find another video of these played with such remarkable precision and technique. I've been practicing all twenty of these for at least two years and I still marvel at how smoothly he handles the most difficult passages. I also really like where he added some bass octaves in No. 16 in Bk 2.

    I have loved Philip Glass and his hypnotic and beautiful works for years. I just got some of these etudes played by the NYU Steel Drum group and it is a very lively and interesting version. His music is so open to so many variations, from piano and guitar, to steel drums, harps, and vibraphones!

      Call me a Philistine, but while the SOUND of live performance might be preferable, sitting in a row facing a stage in the presence of other people who cough, rustle papers, emit into the air what THEY consider pleasant smells, and talk does not appeal to me.
      I'd rather light a candle in a darkened room, lie on the carpet or sit back in an easy chair with a cup of good coffee and just give myself over to the music.

    Will it be heretical if I say that Mr Philip Glass is interpreting the spirit of J S Bach for us in the late 20th /early 21st century? Mr Glass has his own inimitable way of presenting musical ideas which may not appeal to all but here Mr Anton Batagov's sensitive , technically brilliant interpretation surely will beguile all lovers of beauty. Many thanks for sharing this performance.

    • @barbaradavis8880
      @barbaradavis8880 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree Glass's keyboard compositions have a JS Bach feel to them sometimes! But mostly I am stunned by the sheer beauty of these Etudes and by Mr. Batagov's pure love of the music he makes -- his soul, his technical skill, interpretation, sensibilities... Both Glass and Batagov are world treasures.

    • @harrynking777

      @@4Topwood the great thing about music is that it is subjective and as listeners, we are free to interpret it according to our mental getup at the time of hearing it.
