Glass captured the essence of Yukio Mishima in this music. So beautiful and bold. Props to Schrader as well. Mishima's life was such an important example for us, he was a hero.

Phillip Glass played by Jeroen Van Veen...piano solo album,it's on TH-cam,ir has a very similar rythym to this in parts,how to describe..like repetitive building flowing rythym like thus yes.. Try it out

This is the only sound quality I get when I play soft with a slow bow motion. I always wonder how classical players get a clear and even tone when they do play soft and slow. I first heard the quartet as a transcription for guitars (The Dublin Quartet) and came to listen to the original. I expected more classical playing and was surprised. Classical bowing wouldn't match the music.
Mishima must be turning in his grave but still this string quartet was only film music for the 1985 film about Mishima. Having played in a string quartet where we played Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven string quartets as well as the Dvorak "American" quartet, Ravel String quartet, the Bartok string quartets, and the Lutoslawski string quartet, I think I am qualified to say that this string quartet by Phillip Glass is unmitigated repetitive trash.
Once you are in, you cannot get out of it
Philip Glass is the great innovator. Here he adds a 'cougher' to the traditional string quartet format.

Very bland and digestible. Modern 'classical music' for people who don't like 'classical music'. Nice playing, though.
