Robbie was well-known for having the full, and original, words.
Robbie would tell the story of (I think I recall correctly) how the verses were found in a letter from Michael Considine in a local cottage during a renovation in the 40s or 50s. Christy Moore's version is based on this version, collected when Christy was working in Tulla and going to sessions in the area
Robbie had the full original words, and the respect of anybody who heard him!

I have only discovered the poem this morning and I am pretty starstruck by it. I would like to experience Spancil Hill just as the author did, 150 years ago. Does anyone know whether or not Spancil Hill is easily accessible for tourists? Is there a lot to do there?
it is twenty minutes from an international airport and five minutes from Ennis town so yes very accessible, no there is nothing to do there!
