That's awesome! We moved to San Marcos from Poway. Gophers everywhere! We wanted to buy a house in Vista to have a little land for gardening, but the school system scores were just not what we wanted for the kids. I do have a good amount of planting area, but everything is in pots bc of the gophers! Gotta stay on top of those critters.

What do you feed your trees . I use 511Fish Fertilizer my Bananas are growing fantastic with it also I put mulch around my trees I drop kitchen scraps on them then sprinkle a little soil over it no smell

Thanks for sharing. I too live in San Diego, so I like to have the ability to compare your growth rate to mine. I am having issues with my Avocados (planted last year). It was doing amazing, then I watered it a few weeks ago, and it went to shit. I think I needed to wait- turned yellow and dropped all its leaves. Anyway, its starting to come back. Thank you for taking the time to share your garden and knowledge.

Avocados typically drop old leaves every year, then will push out new growth while flowering and after setting fruit.
I have 2 trees and each year in February/ March start to look bad.
Now they are looking really good with the warmer weather and new growth.

Can you tell, if i grow avocado from seed, will it give the fruits? Or i have to get the plant from nursery to get fruits? Thanks

Thanks for the tour! Do you have a good source for wood chips and compost in town?

Mark Grant your welcome, I have a couple friends that do tree service and they bring me loads of wood chips for free. My chickens help me make compost here on the property in their run area.

Are you growing mountain soursop for its leaves? Its fruit is usually as bad as pond apple.

Green Blood yes for medicinal purposes

@@socalbackyardorchard3768 Do you know any methods to get medicinal value out of it. It seems to be tricky to get medicinal properties out of soursop leaves.

@Kim row Not with mountain soursop fruit. Jamaican soursop juice is made with regular soursop.

    • @greenblood3708

@Kim row there is a big difference. Regular soursop is very palatable out of hand. Juice is great too and very rejuvenating for stomach and nervous system. On the hand mountain soursop fruit tastes like raw potato. And it doesnt have that much of juice. It requires elaborate processing to make its medicinal properties available for human consumption. One thing that goes for mountain soursop it is more cold tolerant than regular soursop and can grow in alkaline clay soil. So it can be easily grown outdoors in Southern California.
