I had some issues with some tiles like that when I bought them off of Etsy. They aren't always as deep as they're supposed to be. And I got one that had the negatives and the positives completely opposite of what they were supposed to be, which is a serious problem when some thin shapes don't do as well as engravings rather than protruding like they should.
I always lose my self control when I shopped at Cool Tools, too ! Another favorite are my Kor Tools rollers :-) After I baked my clay with the "outtie "( the popped up side ) I used it as a texture sheet to stamped on my raw clay and that creates an" innie " ( the reversed print ) no need to buy both :D
Great tutorial! I'd love to see some applications for the angel wings. They really appeal to me. I hope your wedding went off beautifully and I'm sure you were a gorgeous blushing bride. (cat scratch & all).
I have lots of the Cool Tools textures, and almost every one is perfect for mica shift too. Only one so far that is not is the Honeycomb - there are two, and one is too small to do it well. (The texture, not the size of the tile.) Amazon carries a lot of them as well, and Cool Tools ships them fast.
you could always make a 3d reverse version of all of them from clay and use the clay pop out versions as an embossing stamp to give you recessed patterns
These sheets do give a nice clean impression, at least when you used them. I dabble in silver clay work, and Metal Clay Ltd are my go-to supplier. However, their selection of texture sheets leaves me all of a tremble. They have so many that I daren't even think of buying them - I suffer from "better get the full set" ism, and that way lies bankruptcy! Did someone hear me say that the texture sheets can be used for paper crafts as well as silver and polymer clay work? Am I trying to convince myself that I would use them enough to justify the cost?!
Those are neat but usually I don't buy texture sheets from anywhere due to price. I have a few though. :P I think they were all gifts from friends. I look at things I am about to either throw away or recycle for textures. :) I found this great plastic tray from something I bought at the grocery store deli. I was about to put it in the recycle bin when I realized it had this great bubble wrap like texture on the bottom. That is - when pressed into clay - it looks like you pressed bubble wrap into the clay. :D I suppose done on the other side would be like making sand castles like things at the beach with a bucket. :D - Heidi
