    I tried this product and got the same result as you did. I think the expansion of the clay during baking time gives the finish that weird look. Wasn't happy with it. However, I found that this foil is perfect for makume gane. I rub it on my clay like you did (I use translucent) and then run it though my pasta machine to crackle it a bit. Then layer on the other colors. It is gorgeous. Especially the pink, blue and green!

    Usually people are upset that things Don’t work on camera.
    I like the antique cracks and chipping. If I use a red clay below, it might look like the red base used to adhere real gold leaf in the renaissance. Was this an iron on foil, called HTV?

    Perhaps you could try it on cured clay, using a heat gun, Valerie? I'm using a technique that I saw on Lynz Crafts tutorials, using Versamark ink pad (transparent) with embossing powders. As long as you don't get too close, and you remember to keep the heat gun moving, you shouldn't really scorch the clay. Might be worth a try. Thanks for sharing your findings. Xx

    wonder if laying it on the clay right after baking would work,,using a paint brush or sponge to rub it? or maybe warm water?or a hair dryer possibly?

      I'm going to have to experiment! xx

    I haven't had much luck with foils either. When I want something to be gold I use gold leaf.

      I've been experimenting today - I might have a better way of doing it but I really want to try gold leaf. xx

      Gold leaf is EASY, it will stick to just about anything. :-)

    seems it doesn't like the movement you get in p/c & that makes it excellent for the crackled effect but not a smooth finish.Thanks Val have been thinking of using leaf vs foil

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is so thin the crackle would be minimal. Leaf might be better, I certainly want to try it. xx

    Considering that it is designed for fabric, I think it came out pretty well. I wonder if those little dots are air coming out of the clay? Maybe the foil would be better used as accents rather than the whole piece. You can be happy that you had a nice Zen -type, meditation all time with it🤓 As long as you have a warm heart, all is well.

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I thought it only fair to point out that it isn't for clay exactly. I love how it works on camera LOL... Accents would be a better use for sure, in this case. xx

    Thank you for doing a review on this as I had thought about getting some but I think I will stick to the Lisa Pavelka as that does keeps its shine and colour really well

  • @agooddaytocraft
    @agooddaytocraft 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know the product but was wondering if the results would be better if you applied it with the recommended glue after the piece had been baked. Regardless, BRAVO for thinking outside the box, love it!

      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know, that does sound a bit easier! I think you still need to apply heat though (even on paper).

      It is easier. I want to try the loose foil leaf thingys though. :D xx

    wow this looks like a really fun project! too bad it seems to be pretty frustrating. yeah it would be difficult to do with cold hands. wow it worked pretty good on the white after all. this remindes me of the lip foils i reviewed.

    I have some Lisa Pavelka foils coming this week I will let you know how I get on with those. I have been using foils meant for cloth and find if you texture after using them and then cut out you get a nice effect.Sort of crinkly metallic if that makes sense. Lol xx

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks I must try that! xx

    • @BluePiggy
      @BluePiggy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How did it work for you? I couldn't get the Lisa Pavelka foils -- which were supposedly created for polymer clay -- to work at all. They wouldn't stick to the clay no matter what I did.

  • @deborahselgrad8374
    @deborahselgrad8374 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe you should partially bake the clay then adhere the foil to the clay and try a heat gun. Also, do you think you could get the same look using gold leaf?

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah somebody else suggested that and I have never seen it done! I'll give it a try tomorrow and post the results on my FaceBook Page (Unruly Housewife). xx

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      And gold leaf is also used... I want to try that soon. xx

      This is so cool...the first time I posted a comment to a video and got a response. I don't actually work with polymer clay, but think some of the techniques could be used for cold process soap making.

    • @merryclicker
      @merryclicker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Molds and stamps, mica powders, alcohol inks maybe, my daughter does use most of this with the ordinary soap making. I've used molds with the cold process, and mica powders, but I'd rather let my daughter make the soap. I'll make the soap dish!

      Unruly Housewife ya I tried the rub and buff foils with lousy results but I bought these "imitation" foils...they look EXACTLY like regular foils and work BEAUTIFULLY for a fraction of the cost. GOOD LUCK!! ❤❤ www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0128I60X2/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    I used nail foils that go on with an adhesive. I've applied them without adhesive as well and both worked. got them on Amazon.😁

    Thank you for doing this review. I would be interested to see if it crackles if you put it through your pasta machine. Xx

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a very thin covering, so it makes tiny crackles... OK I just put some of the left-over white through on a much thinner setting (good service on here huh? LOL) and the gold got very faint and had tiny crackles.

    I am back. Right after I looked at your reply to my comment, I had an e-mail from a place here called Fire Mountain Gems and Beads, which is a craft place that sells just about everything. They were showing a necklace and earrings with little foil lines going through. Maybe you would like to see it. If you go there to their gallery, they probably have it on display. It's very pretty. That's all for today, Major

    what about using it on pre-baked clay? Thanks for the info!

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK sorry, I just removed my comment in case I confused someone! My mistake! The clay I used was raw, because that's how I have seen it done and I assumed it HAD to be. I will try it on pre-baked clay and let you know, since your question is a very good one!

    Maybe the foil is a bit old and whatever agent they use to adhere the foil to the backing dried out and is sticking to the burnishing paper. Back in the day this used to happen to old press type, the old fashion way off rubbing lettering off for publishing...before word processors.

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe so... We used to use Letraset to make lettering and sort of scribble on the back to detach it. I'd have died with joy if I'd had a printer in my teens!
