well this goes to show that even a video done 9 years ago can help someone in 2023. All I have ever done is put gas in my car, now I can add that I have changed my cabin air filter. Thank you so much for this awesome video. Sharon
I have done my share of "how to" google searches for different jobs but none I have seen so far beat this fellas complete detailed explanation.....this fella included every single step and described everything including the little things that others may not even think of mentioning to the viewer .....i this guys did a great job..... thank you
Thanks, Guy! When I bought my used Yaris I asked a mechanic to change the cabin air filter. He said he couldn't because it didn't have one. Now the car is 8 years old, with 75,000 miles on it. The filter is so packed with crud, mostly dust, that the outside air scarcely flows through the cabin at highway speeds.
I never heard of a cabin filter until a friend asked me when I changed mine. I had no idea what she was talking about! Now I know. Thanks so very much for the great video. Excellent!
Great video... saved me $89.00 at Toyota service. Can't believe they wanted to charge THAT much for something that takes only 4 minutes and 36 seconds WITH video instruction!
Gabriela Moran - Please be aware there are several types/brands of cabin filters. Many of them look quite black from new. Those contain active carbon to help clear the air/smell, it's not necessarily a fault. Usually are also slightly more expensive then "regular" one's. ;-)
Thanks for the Video. I have a 2010 Sedan, and need to change the Cabin Filter. Bought one and couldn't figure out where it was. Now I'll be able to change it.
Very good video, I watched two other videos that did not have enough details and I had difficulty with my installation. Watching your video answered many small details I was wondering about and then my installation became successful. Thank you :-)
Thanks I actually needed to find out where the filter goes. My car has been leaking for months. Turns out it never came with an air filter. Ordered one off Amazon for 8 bucks. Now I can just put it in myself.
Such a shame that cars are now made primarily of plastic. One wrong move and you snap off a connector or something, and you need an entire new part. Thanks for the video, excellent.
Hi, Toyota plastic parts last very well. You can open same part ten times and cover is Ok. It is also true, that most other cars brands plastic parts is like scrap.
I just changed the cabin air filter on my '07 Yaris, I found that one of the plastic tabs on the left that holds the cover is broken off, the other one is stressed almost to fail, and on the inside of the heater housing (also made entirely of plastic), one of the plastic parts of the mechanism which moves the airflow from recycle cabin air or outside air, has broken entirely in half, and was preventing the little door from opening/closing. Those internal parts were never stressed beyond normal wear and they already have busted on a car that has 70k miles on it, where a similar part made of steel or aluminum part would never break. Just saying, it's nothing like it was in the 1950s-1970s, when most cars were made simply, and of steel. Nowadays, things are made to fail so you have to buy something new in only a few years...planned obsolescence. It's a shame.
Hi, I would like to confirm that once install with the cabin air filter, will it cause air blow out from the air/aircon outlet become weak (fan speed weak)? I get this info from a Denso agent as my vehicle is a Toyota Vios NCP42 whereby it standard come without a cabin filter (I also wonder why no cabin filter when bought as new at year 2004). So I bought the cabin air filter standard with a holder separately from the Denso agent. I would like to confirm this before I install. Thank you.
It's not a switch unfortunately! Just tells you whether the airbag is armed or not Of course for a while these had recalled Takata airbags which would straight up kill you so there's that
Peter Finn My cabin filter was filthy!! (2002 Yaris) Just checked mine it was dusty and had small crunched up leaves in it,shaked it cleaned it up with paint brush getting all the crap out and i put it back. Will get/order one weekend so i advise everyone to check and replace their own as it aint doing no good because all the crap is going into your lungs! Your breathing all that sh*t in.
Hi, Really helpful video however the air flow on my 2006 RHD Toyota Yaris 1.3 is so that the fan pulls the air down meaning the air filter AIR FLOW arrow is pointed downwards. I've checked (very carefully) with a tissue paper to be sure.
Could you tell me how I know what filter to buy? my Yaris is 2006 but a 2007 model! (found that out when I lost my keys and Insurance sent breakdown with 2006 key so couldnt do it!! Lost my husband recently and I'm finding it so hard having to deal with things myself. My fan is coming on constantly? even in cold weather and googling seems to suggest maybe air con filter? doesnt seem to blow very cold? Any advice would be great thanks. Dont want to order the wrong filter!
I'm from puerto Rico I have seen that the yaris we get here are kind of different from the ones there does that video aplies for the yaris we got here In p.r. ??? I have a sedan 2011.
You didn't put the hydraulic arm back on the post on the side. I got a filter from the Toyota dealer and it is popping out really far. I had to smash it in like an accordion to get it to fit. I wonder if I got the right part and if it will be okay.
A garage changed my pollen filter and I don't know if they fitted it correctly. On the pollen filter cover it has a arrow pointing up with up next to it but when I removed the filter the air flow arrow was pointing down. On the filter the writing is the correct way when the arrow is facing down.
An air flow arrow should point down. The word "up" on Toyota parts has nothing to do with air flow. They just want to be sure everything is installed correctly. Air flows down. That's why dirt collects on top of the old filter.
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor You are saying to match the arrows regardless of whether the wording is up or down? So if your car has air blowing from underneath, the arrow should point up?
Hi Peter . recently I bought a Yaris , 1l , 2000 , cdx manual . when I accelerate in fist gear , the car makes a noise like a blown exhaust , it sounds very sporty , same thing happened , when driving in second gear , but not in third , fourth , or fifth . the gear shifts ok , . No noise in neutral , and no noise when you depress the clutch . What could this be please ?. regards
Could be the fly wheel or clucth/gear linkage not sure.but you mentioned "noise like a blown exhaust" it'll sound loud whatever gear it's in or neutral.
The only time an air filter arrow should point up is when it says up next to the arrow. Air flow direction is down. Most filters have instructions with them...
l see the filter in the video has the two stiff filter plates put in the opening sideways, not front and back like in rav4 videos . , wonder witch is the rigth way

Maybe egr/cooler pipe leak just guessing ok.
It might be the gasket between the catalyst and the exhaust
When I insert the filter, in which direction must the arrow on the filter show? This One ↑ or this one ↓? Thanks for help.
