I was so happy to listen to this yesterday. I will be 73 in May, and got interested in Legos when the "pandemic" started. You are so right in everything you have said. Building legos has really helped me considering all the points you mentioned. I watch your channel everyday which has been very helpful in my building technics. You are so kind and positive. Continued success to you and your wife.

I'm 61 and started building Lego in late 2020. My 27 yr old daughter is building too. We shop Lego and get Starbucks. It's our thing. It's a joy for both of us. She is content to chill and build Lego in her apartment with the dog on a Saturday night. I'm over here doing the same. Adding a glass of wine is a kick too! Thanks Bricksie! I've followed you from the beginning of this brick journey. You and Jose (sorry sp) are great!👍👍👍👍👍💝

I actually do agree with the psychological health. For me, it helps me focus since my brain runs in a lot of different directions so when I build a set, it helps me focus on what I'm doing at that particular time. Also personally for my piece of mind, since I can't draw or do other forms of art, I treat building LEGO as art. For example, I stick to the ideas sets that interest me as well as the architecture skylines as the skylines help me feel like I'm traveling around the world without spending mass amounts of money to do so. As always, great informative video Bricksie. One of the best feelings is when I walk into the LEGO store and the staff are so friendly and take the time to talk to me about certain sets and things I see around the store.👍

I’m 24 and recently picked Lego back up. I’m new to the working world and got promoted to a better position at my company, it feels great to be recognized! But my gosh the stress and pressure is intense sometimes, and I get so in my head since a lot of my peers are now sometimes twice my age. Around the summer of last year I was at Walmart getting groceries and passed the Lego section. I honestly felt a little embarrassed even checking them out. I pushed those thoughts aside and came home with the AT-AT and Slave one. Ever since then, I’ve always had at least one Lego set I’m in the process of building and I have to say, it’s an awesome hobby. I love just turning my brain off, not worrying about anything else other than having fun building something. It’s been truly therapeutic for me. I’m glad I found it as an adult and others just like me are too.

I played with Lego as a child. In 2016 I got back into Lego as a 61 year old adult for most all the reasons you mentioned in this video. It has been so much fun for me. My biggest challenge was the Millennium falcon USC set. It was awesome fun to build. Watching you and Mrs. Bricksie build Lego’s and see how you have built and an reorganize and improve your City has help me especially during the pandemic. I have gotten my Grandchildren into Lego too. Thank you for this video and just being there for me and everyone else who watch you. Bless you both and your fur babies. Love seeing them in your videos.

    Love this!
We took our Autistic 5 Year old to an aviation museum and we happen to buy a Lego X-wing ($20 one) for our son rather than some toy plane, as he already has a few. We thought we'd give him a chance at building. He loved it! Now we build sets together, last one being the At-At 40th anniversary one. It's incredible the patience, fine motor skills, following directions, sense of accomplishment/confidence, determination, and time away from TV that this Lego hobby has helped grow!
It truly is a great way to decompress and create positive neuropathy connection.. I'm sure this will help myself also with keeping brain sharp in my old age. (I'm only 40 now)
My wife and I even purchased the Typewriter and have a date night planned soon! Wine for her, THC for me, and Lego build for both of us!
Thanks for this vid..it truly is a great hobby.

Lego is one of rare things in today life that is very much disconnected from “Digital World”. I think as human beings we need some physical items to rely on.

I'm 62 and have enjoyed Lego all my life. I have more Lego than space in my apartment and will be moving to a larger place, probably some time this summer. I think you nailed it for the reasons to collect Lego. I have also installed light kits to some of my Lego, which in itself is challenging.
I also started working with building sets called Nanobricks, micro versions of the Lego brick, which is quite a challenge at times. I always enjoyed your videos. I look forward to the Back to the Future DeLorean coming out next month. Thanks again, and keep building

I completely agree with the first point. When I got my Pick Up Truck, I too had a busy couple of days at work, so I decided since it was too adorable not to buy and I had some free time that week to use that time to build Lego
My only regret is I started too late. I would have loved to have a Parisian Restaurant or Tower Bridge. I could still get them, but they are crazy expensive

This video gave me the reassurance I needed cause I got back into LEGO now at age 25 and feel kinda weird every time I leave the store with bags full of sets. But then I get home and it makes me so happy building and relaxing to where I don't really care if it's weird or not.

Once again another amazing video and the perfect topic. As you stated I started back into lego for my 74 year old mother. We had tremendous loss last year to two family members. I started back into lego as a way for her to get her mind preoccupied on other things. And wow it worked. She loves building lego kits now. It also does everything you mentioned in your video for her. Again great content Bricksie. You have a subscriber and viewer for the life of your channel sir. Also I praise lego for the amazing kits they put out.

This video was spot on! Especially the health & community points. I started with Lego last fall with Home Alone and the Christmas sets to get me through my first Christmas after the loss of my husband. It kept my mind occupied on some of the hardest days. Now I’m continuing with the exclusive sets and looking for past Christmas Village sets. I also managed to find the Simpsons sets to set up a tribute to my husband as he was a huge Homer fan. And the community has been amazing & supportive. Thank you Bricksie & Mrs Bricksie for being a part of my healing journey.

I completely agree 💯 with every reason you gave. I just started collecting Lego last summer and you would think that I’ve been collecting for many years considering the amount of Lego that I’ve accumulated during that span of time, but dead on about the psychological health portion. I have a major depression disorder, attempted suicide multiple times in the past, went through a divorce, had to retire from the army early, my kids are a 23 hour drive away. I’ve been through a lot in life and Lego I will tell you I never thought anything of it before last summer. I starting buying Lego for my kids to build up their rooms I was putting together and next thing you know I was really enjoying it, really getting into it and it was helping me tremendously relieving a lot of stress and shoot I was buying nearly every set out there. ❤️ my Lego collection, ❤️ building Lego. Never could have imagined that I was gonna become addicted to Lego. It helps with stress, it helps with depression, it puts your mind in a much better, more positive place and much better than any medication would ever do. The builds are amazing, the finished products are amazing to look at, and it always gives me something to look forward to. I’m new to the community, proud to be part of the community, and I’ll certainly be part of the community for many many years to come. Don’t know how I overlooked Lego all my life, but I was certainly happy to have found it at the age of 37. 🤟

I got a tattoo a few weeks ago and I noticed the artist had a couple of Lego sets on his shelf. So we started talking about the sets and after he was done, he invited us down to the shop's basement to show us his giant Lego city, bins upon bins of bricks, boxed sets, etc.
He said he doesn't usually bring strangers down there, but the instant connection we made over Lego allowed us to have a better relationship than just client and tattoo artist.

Those are some very valid reasons on why to collect LEGO! I 100% agree. It is so nice to have something to distrat yourself from the stresful world and just enjoy a world of you own with LEGO! After a rough day I always love to crack open a set, build it and then place it in my city. It just makes me so happy. LEGO is awesome!

Totally agree with those 5 reasons. I think that you didn't focused enough, in the Education part, on the stimulation of creativity and fine motor skills, very important for both children and elderly.

I started watching a lot of art and crafts videos and thought the creativity was so neat. I needed a hobby but I’m far from a creative person. My aunt ended up buying me a Lego set (Friends Central Perk) for Christmas and it was a blast and scratched that creative itch.
I’ve been pretty obsessed over the last four months and went to the Lego store at Disneyland with my parents. They were pretty amazed at how far Lego has come since I and they were a kid.
Now my Dad is talking about getting a larger set and my mom likes the idea of building a Christmas theme Lego set for the holidays.

As an older lady, I am late to the Lego party. I have only been building since last year. My husband has been building for many years. I started making Christmas decorations last year. This year I made a Valentines Day display and we are both working on a Christmas village for this year. I am currently designing our house which we will be building in the next couple of years which of course will include a lego room. My husband uses Lego as a stress relief as he has a demanding job as an anaesthesia tech in the hospital surgical dept. I'm hooked now and always searching for lego bargains and we love building together ...

Amazing topic, Bricksie...and greatly explained. I fully agree with all 5 reasons and also with the order within the list, specially the 1st one. I came back to lego very recently cause I had to go through a breast cancer experience and this was the only thing that helped me to get out of uncertainties and fear there implied. Now I have just finished the process and have to come back to work when I would really prefer to keep building lego, talking about lego, watching lego videos ... even considering a professional change in this direction... who knows ;)

I used to love Lego as a child & as many, stopped as I hit my teens & older. I never had a clue they made adult sets. Just thought you’d get technic as you got older but they never appealed to me. Then towards later last year when things reopened more, promotions started popping up which got my attention & curiosity. Turned out one of my oldest friends was into it & discovered TH-camrs doing it. Cut a long story short & few thousand £££ later 😬🤫 I love it & completely agree about your mental well-being. Keeps my mind focused, having fun solving the challenges of building them & takes away stress. Really wish I discovered it earlier to save money & for investment purposes though.

Health? It's a source of stress for me. I collect vintage sets (80s and 90s) and trying to find them at reasonable prices or piecing them together on Bricklink, finding the best prices and shipping rates can be a pain. Never mind E-Bay auctions or getting a set and it's yellowed and now I have to replace those parts. As for value, I don't intend to sell anything so I don't worry about that. Fortunately I'm not into any of the new themes other than Ninjago City so the collection becomes easier to manage that way. Can't even imagine the stress levels if I collected Star Wars or city modulars.

    • @drdel76
      @drdel76 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

May I ask, do you build these sets, or keep them as an investment or for reselling? Some vintage sets in good condition do seem to command a high price on eBay etc.

@@drdel76 My sets are all in great condition and complete. Most have the box and instructions too. I build them and display them. I don't "invest" in Lego. I intend to keep them. I know a lot of them are quite expensive but I don't worry about that.

I've been collecting their Star Wars sets since day 1. Nearly 23 years later, I have a pretty big collection.

I work in Law Enforcement and I deal with a lot of evil people. I decompress with building Lego sets and it has helped me a lot to be able to escape and focus all of my attention into building a complicated set. Cheaper than therapy as well. Win win.

Sounds like your in Corrections. I know of Officers in the same situation that use lego as a outlet as well.

@@TK-fc8rh nahh Corrections is a whole different ball game. Those officers are troopers. I couldn’t do what they do.

If I ever make a huge lego city then i will destroy it and make it into an avengers scene loll, there reason why i collect lego is because i like building it and i want to design houses, which i think would look good

I got 1 reason collecting lego is better then video games you don't get seizures from building legos if you suffer from epilepsy like I do. I don't mean all video games either I have only had problems with violent games in the past. Lego ones have been ok for me.
