  • On Day 7 of our Ireland road trip join us as we leave County Sligo and head north to County Donegal, where we'll answer the question on everyone's mind - WHY DO THEY PAINT SHEEP? Then Karen drops Chris off at Rosapenna golf course in Downings, and she heads for the Derryveagh Mountains, to Mount Errigal. The tallest of the Seven Sisters mountains, it sits on the border of Glenveagh National Park.
We'll talk about one of the toughest mountain races in the world, the Seven Sisters Skyline Ireland, an 18 or 34 mile (30 or 55 km) race that encompasses the peaks of all Seven Sisters!
Then Karen will take you on a hike up Mount Errigal and compare it to their climb up Alaska's Flat Top of about the same elevation. Will she make it to the top? Watch and see!
After the beautiful sights and sounds of the Derryveagh Mountains, we'll head back up the Wild Atlantic Way and stop to gaze at the incredible Doe Castle on an inlet of Sheephaven Bay, and learn a little of its history.

Good explanation of the sheep painting ,i am not a farmer so i can't really add much except that in the west of ireland they are way more sheep than people ,in sligo they are 3 sheep for every human in donegal they are half a million sheep ,whereas the human pop is only 160 000.

Thanks gallow glass2. We’re not farmers either but grew up in farm country. We hadn’t seen that practice before. Seems like a brilliant idea don’t you think?

@@thissecondhalfadventure Yes don'tknow how they manage in some places because for some common grazing land has up to 20 farmers grazing sheep .

It is a traditional way to have a farmhouse up in the mountains, surrounded by boggy land & 💧 water.
