I love the balance of a life that is truly a life full of many blessings and all this very messy and very labor intensive work! You are creating a beautiful home and giving it new life. I love your vlogs.
It's going to be worth it in the end, I'm sure of it! Not long now until you can start to redecorate and fill the halls with lovely pieces you've collected. Keep up the good work, Laura, I think you're a champion for doing this all on your own!
I have a trick when tackling a project like this. Complete one section, not necessarily the finish paint, but the stripping, sand and clean and look at it end of day. It is a motivational push to continue.
Laura you should be very proud of yourself. Most people would not take that on. You and Olly are inspirational when it comes to DIY. I love what you are doing to your home. It will be all worth while. Love you both you and Olly DIY heroes. Ps love you taste in furniture and homeware. Xxxx❤️😍💐
Hello Laura. Thank you for sharing the beautiful bridesmaid dresses. They are all lovely. Any one would be perfect. I can only imagine how amazing your gown will be. Wish you the very best in your upcoming special event. Just remember every bride and groom are gorgeous. And no matter if there should be a minor mishap, hopefully not, only the beautiful fun occasion will be on your guests memories. Nothing but yours and Ollies happiness will stand out. Blessings to you both on your special from California. Look forward to all your videos.
Laura, I do not envy you this job at all, but I admire your perseverance. I’d be sitting on the stairs, drinking an endless amount of tea and I’d be having epic ‘woe is me’ moments 🤣
Hi Laura, I just wanted to wish you both a long life of peace, good health and the best of luck in your new life together as one. I have been married for 32 years now to the same man and he is the love of my life. As for the stairs. if you have used the paint stripper once and twice make sure you get mostly all that you can off. then with the rest its just a mater of sanding the rest which will be quicker than keep using the stripper over and over again, Sanding is great i find it therapeutic. My Son came and sanded most of my stairs when we got our stairs done, it is messy but when doing renovations its part of the job unfortunately. still you guys have a great start from what i have seen so far this is video #3 for me, great job so far.
Right after you scrape away the stripper use a large sponge and wipe the area with mineral spirits it will lift up the residual goo and keep the area neater. Also keep your scraper clean and use an old sharp edged tin to put the goo into. I have seen this done and it is shocking what the mineral spirits can do as a finishing step. Get a Dremel for the nooks and crannies. A dremel comes with many ends that can fit into the spaces and get out the little flecks you cannot get.
Just keep thinking Laura, that in future, every time you walk up and downstairs, how very glad and proud you’ll feel of the amazing job you’ve done, on your own! The fact that every visitor to your beautiful family home will also appreciate and admire how totally stunning the staircase looks too. Whilst you’re putting in all the effort keep reminding yourself that, whilst it’s a horrible and labour intensive job, powering through is going to produce such a huge return in a relatively short timeframe compared to some of the other jobs you’ve completed previously 😊 Your home is looking so incredible and the staircase is very much the cherry on top!
Well done! Well done! And more well done! You are truly an example for all of us not to give up and keep going! In a very near future you will be walking up and down of these beautiful stairs and realising that…wait…this mine and this is what I have repaired and brought back to life! Much love 🥰🥰
I actually rented a sander, gex 150 turbo from the brand Bosch. It’s quite expensive and renting it wasn’t . My stairs were painted in so many layers stripping them with paint stripper or using a heat gun would have taken days. (I did try) the stacked layers of paint were just not coming off. Not gonna lie I was done sanding the stairs in a few hours with that sander. It took it all off and made the wood look entirely new. That worked best for me if anyone is looking to do their stairs. These sanders are the real deal.
nitromores and scrape then wire wool and nitromores to get off any stubborn bits. also when the wood is two different colours use bleach on it to strip out the colour. it needs plenty water to wash it off but it works great!
Just a paint stripping tip: use a sturdy cardboard box or old plastic container as a receptacle for the old paint. You can use the sides to scrap the putty knife and it's more manageable than a plastic bag. Once the box fills with old paint residue, just dump it into a bag and reuse the cardboard/plastic box again. Love your videos - rooting for you guys every step of the way!
I just kept thinking...you poor girl! What an awful job! Having just stripped a table recently I feel I understand at least somewhat! And your comment about your "fans" coming along on this journey rings true to me. If I am held accountable, I tend to get things started and finished. Knowing others are going to see my work, helps a lot!
I don't know why, but I love seeing this kind of video, I love seeing all the process and all the hard work that has to be done before the pretty bits, like decorating. It's really inspiring!
You are my hero. I bought a 112 yo farmhouse and it’s been 2 years still since I began tackling various issues on the stairs. Plus, I have yet to deal with the paint on them; for reasons you have clearly shown and explained in this video. Thank you. You have given me motivation! 💪🏻💪🏻
When i was trying to get paint off my wooden dresser, i tried every paint remover on market, heat gun all did not work very well, was pulling my hair out !! Then someone told me about spray on oven cleaner ( got mine from home bargains called dr magic like 99p) but i did mine outside as a piece of furniture, so if you do try windows open and masks cause fumes, but it works quick and paint just come off in strips, i found not too much mess. Then i just washed it down with some soapy water , looks great. i'm sure it look great once done :)
Hey Laura. Rome wasn't built in a day...so not many processes like these are easy... and when you think of the other projects that you have done completed and successful made them look easy...yet hard work was still in the process...don't be so hard on yourself ..the hard work will pay off in the long run and before you know it ...they will be looking beautiful....just like you...even if you sounded like Darth Vader...lol x Well done thanks for sharing. And it does give others in the same DIY projects. A good idea of what and how to do it...👍🙂
Morning Laura hope the paint removal going well this weekend. Renovation is definitely a marathon not a sprint. I remember it well I wish I’d documented it like you. You are providing inspiration for the next renovators xx Lots of love and thank you for sharing.
You are amazing to do all that work. All that hard labor will pay off when you see the finished look. You are the inspirator and motivator of all the projects you and Ollie do. So impressive!
OMG you are working hard! All those years of paint over that beautiful staircase and now you are returning it to it's original beauty. I am cheering you on Laura!!!
I look forward to all & any of your videos & vlogs on a Friday evening! Your hard work is so inspiring. Its often the hardest most boring jobs that really show that . I first came across your channel just about the time you did phase 1 in your dining room . The change in there was amazing ! All of your projects are . It's been lovely to see your top floor recieve it's absolutely thorough renovation & your bedroom suite is going to be beautiful . Thank you xxx
Hi Laura. That really looks like a thankless task and I feel for you. However, your patience and determination will win through and the end result will be so worth it. I’m in awe of what you and Ollie have achieved yourselves and it must make you feel even prouder having put so much of your own work into the renovation. You will have such a beautiful home in the end and the day will come when you can sit back and relax and enjoy the fruits of all your hard labour.💖🌸🌷
I have used Peel Away, and it is a difficult process. It is well worth it in the end. I would space the use of the product with other projects that feed your soul. Perhaps a day on a day off. Whatever works for you. You will find a way to make it beautiful. My best wishes.
Your in the middle of the project, (like spring cleaning, it always gets messier before it gets better) so don't worry about what it looks like right now, you are doing a great job, it will be beautiful when you finish! 💞
Thanks for the side view of the peeling. Super satisfying!😂. I did a dresser once and it is super messy. It will get better. You may have to use some scrapers made for tiny spots and corners. Keep going! Your reward awaits and those stairs are getting a new life. It’s all a process.
Ohhh finally the stairss! u did a GREAT JOB actually it looks more nicer after! even if the color had 98090 shades LOOL + I can watch another 3 vids doing the stairs
Laura you are your own worst critic, but aren’t we all…LOL. There isn’t a home project that doesn’t look worse before it gets better. Just keep pushing forward and before you know it what’s before you will be behind you!
You certainly have a lot of patience. When we renovated our little Melbourne terrace, my husband who is a wood worker ripped everything off, took it to get acid dipped and then reinstalled it. You can't beat a Festung industrial sander with a vacuum unit. Really noisy though.
Omg Laura, brave girl. I tackled the stairs in my home last Autumn. My banister had previously been stained no paint and it took me a week. By the end I was totally cheesed off but the result was worth it. I admire your commitment to getting the job done and hope it gets easier for you x
That is certainly a job and a half, you have so much patience. To be honest I would have gone for the easier option and put carpet down but you're doing a sterling job. Well done xx
You and Ollie are doing an incredible job! It’s amazing to see how far you both have came from with the house. It’s going to be incredible finished and you both will be able to look back and say we did this, I hope one day I’ll be able to by a renovation project similar (maybe not as big as yours) and have the achievement of saying that. Absolutely incredible guys keep going! 😊
You are doing such a great job! I really admire your drive. I used paint stripper on a built in wardrobe and I regretted it immediately . Hell on earth! Your house looks so great!
Having done this process myself I can reassure you that it will definitely be worth all of the hard work in the end. Keep going lovely, you're doing a fantastic job x
Porridge poultice is amazing - ive completely restored our victorian ceiling rose using porridge.......mix porridge with boiling water and allow to cool and form a good stiff poultice- spread thickly on paint surface and seal with cling film - leave for at least 3 days for the water to soak into the paint (3 days should work for wood - you dont want wood too wet as it splinters under the scraper but a week on plaster detail works better)...check the surface isnt drying out ...if mould starts appearing is time to scrape it up. ............remove porridge and scrape softened paint off before it dries....this is how the benign eco strippers work - by slowly and simply transferring water into the paint to soften............Also it looks as though you will still need to sand after stripping ........I found that the purchase of a 600 or 700 W sander is a lot more effective for sanding stripped wood and remaining paint ( although expensive at £280+) than the use of the standard 300 W domestic sanders that most people buy. I finished d our stairs using powerful sander with dust bag plus henry vacuum attached plus decent masks plus floor fan for ventilation plus windows open! .
You have your before and afters skewed Laura. The before looked bad, but right now you're at the interim stage which needs to happen so you can get to the after stage. Removing the paint using peel away is so much more time effective than sanding. It takes less time to apply and scrape and finish sand, than it would to just sand everything. While it's working you're able to do other things instead of spending days/weeks sanding.
and Mrs T Keep at it you will appreciate the end result. Is horrible job to be sure but you are a hard worker and admire you for tackling it by yourself girl power well done

Well done Laura. Stairs are a mammoth task! I used Peelaway years ago on the fiddly bits of a fireplace and it did a great job.

It's going to be so worth it in the end! A wire brush and very fine steel wool works great for the little details.
Also a dental hygienists tools help with the tiny details.
I live in a home built in 1975, so adding character, that looks authentic is quite tricky.😅 I LOVE all the character in your Home.😍🤍😍
Well done! Well done! And more well done! You are truly an example for all of us not to give up and keep going! In a very near future you will be walking up and down of these beautiful stairs and realising that…wait…this mine and this is what I have repaired and brought back to life! Much love 🥰🥰
Putting your shoes on while speaking in the beginning (cardigan on) is very Mr Rogers 😍

Every Saturday morning I wake up, make my coffee and I watch your video. It's my favorite time of week. The stairs are looking so good! :)

You could try shaped scrapers too? I just got a set for furniture from Az - it's got 6 shaped blades.
You are doing a fantastic job. It always looks worse before it looks great. Thank you, you motivate me to get some jobs done 👍🏿👍🏿
You are certainly a hard worker! Pat yourself on the back, you're doing great.

having used a chemical stripper to take finish off a rocking chair I found that a wire brush helped to get some of the stuck areas clean
It's going to look absolutely beautiful in the end. It's just such a long tedious, messy, time-consuming process to get there. Keep going, you can do it!
Well done Laura, what a brilliant job. I am also stripping stairs at the moment so that was a great motivation thanks xx
I think it's looking great. It always gets worse before it gets better.
The heat gun used properly with the correct scraper tool would beat all of that mess hands down, I've just done whole house paintwork in my daughters
Keep the empty tub and use it to dump your scrapings in it. Much easier and safer than using a black bin bag
Good for you Laura, great job x
Yay love fridays! xx
Always love content from you guys!
What a pain, but you've made good progress and it's going to look so amazing when done. This beautiful home deserves the love you both are giving it.
thank you for the blessing of your video and your fun as you do your renovationS
So satisfying to watch 😍
You both amaze me! Such a project you took on when you bought that house.it makes me tired just watching you!
Good job, Laura, hang in there, you will get this done. Makes for instructional utube material
Lots of hard work, very worth it
You’re a trooper Laura! Definitely doing a great job. Don’t worry if it looks like splatterfest 😆 it’ll end up being great 👍🏻
i know you hate heat guns, but after having to remove paint from all the downstairs wall paneling and stairs, i found the easiest and quickest way was to use a heat gun to get the worst of it off with a linbide scraper, then hit it with a spray on stripper. which then takes 30 seconds to do its job and clean off the rest of the paint with coarse steel wool..a quick spray and rub with neutraliser and all done.
Your stairs before reminds me of neapolitan ice cream 😂
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤ 🎀
Step in the right direction Laura😉💞
Do not envy your paint stripping journey. I have done it with sander and muscle power. Well done you. 1st commenter big time fan. 😊
This was SO SATISFYING to watch 🙌 Well done!! ps: I would gladly watch 4weeks of this stair renovation 😊
Well done. You have real discipline. Impressive.
GO LAURA!
Stairs ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This will be so worth it!
don't worry it will all come together
usually it's starts ugly at the end it will all b worth it and I kno u kno that cuz ur house looks beautiful

Your a real trooper 👍
