Useful information! I read that a diet low in fibre increased the chance of developing Diverticular disease. A diet high in fibre, being active and drinking plenty of water help reduce the problems from Diverticular disease. Nicely explained video! Thanks Dr. Mark! 🙌❤👍

Just got released from the hospital over the weekend after a 5 day, 3 units of blood and a 4.5 hr golightly ("collage binge"). As you said the colonoscopy wasn't able to produce anything that wasn't already known (lots of diverticula) but no active bleeding. Eventually the third bleed did stop hopfully permanently (really doubtful) and i'm at home recuperating to get back to work. 3 years ago I did have a partial collectomy done to remove a problemed section of my colon (14" worth) but now a new diverticula has found its place to bleed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with those of us that have diverticulosis! Yes, you have described exactly what I've been through over the past 8 years.

I’m curious if the GI doc mentioned how they intended to control bleeding if they found a culprit lesion. I usually don’t scope as it usually doesn’t add anything for the patient.

@@MarkCooperMD the GI dr. Mentioned that they would have to plug it with a coil. A procedure I had done on a bad bleed 6 years ago.

That sounds like coil embolization by interventional radiology. Hopefully your condition avoids further complications. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, you're exactly right! At this point it seems as though the bleed has stopped. For how long is the million dollar question. My next challenge is I'll need to have a MRI done to investigate a mass found on my liver which was found during the CT scan of my GI bleed.@@MarkCooperMD

I'm having a bleed every 2 weeks for about 3 days

Thanks for this video. I had reached the conclusion later on that I did not need the CT scan because the bleeding had stopped by the time I went to the ER. And, my blood work was good. They said I had inflammation. I questioned later on in needing antibiotics. The nurse had said inflammation and infection are the same thing! Is this true? In reading comments from others in YT land that isn't true. An infection would require antibiotics is my understanding.

Inflammation is a more generic term which can be due to both infectious and non infectious causes.
Not all infections need antibiotics though.

Is it ok to eat yogurt when recovering from diverticulitis ? It seems to help with the antibiotics they prescribed for me so I don't get diarrhea

Good quality yogurt (not loads of added sweeteners) may be helpful.

Mark i would like to speak to you. I had diverticulitis 4 years ago. Took my antibiotics and a water diest and felt better. The last yeat ive been hurting. I did a CT scan and showed i had diverticulitis, also a year ago i had a colonosxopy. It showed i had diverticulitis and some polyps that they removed. My gastro is telling me to go see a surgeon now to aee if i get operated and remove that portion. Should i be asking the surgeon anything especially?

Two weeks ago I took antiohitocs because the pain had come back on my lower left. I'm scheduling an MRI because some polyps are showing again and my gastro is concerned, but she wants me to get operated to avoid future complications. Is she doing things right ? And how fan I send you my results for you to see them and guide me.

Why would you have an MRI for diverticulosis or polyps? Something doesn’t add up and I would guess some details are missing.
