GUYS RELAX DON'T BE MAD AT ME. ✨ALL✨ of the 7 star tanks in FFBE are good. Every single one of them. That's frickin' awesome because even in the JP version of the game you have units like Merc Ramza that are garbage. In GL all of our tanks can do amazing things!
So with that said don't be mad that I ranked them up. Some just have to be better than others and I laid out why I think that's the case. Hopefully this can help people make a choice with their UoCs. Really great vid! Love the format and your ranking system. Almost confirmed my decision to use my GL exclusive tic on Lilith as her ability to grant reduction resist on a tank is absolutely amazing in trials and works well with other tanks that I have. Thanks
Thanks for the great info. I'm fairly new 6monrhs so far and did 7* A Rain and Wilheim and they have carried me quite well so far. Of course with future contents I might have to pull for newer units but at least I know they are still worth using and hopefully will help me with my progress further. Great info. Liked and subbed, thank you so much for this video. I love doing the research top put together teams, and having a side by side comparison like this is really convenient. I'd love to see more like this, buffer and breakers compared, etc. Maybe not dps, because that'll change in two weeks anyway :P
On a more personal note, tanks have been my favorite class in this game, ever since Cecil (one of my favorite ff characters). When I got VoE, I felt pretty invincible for a while. Unless a battle is OTK, I almost always look at it as "how can I get my tank to stay tanking so I can get through the fight?" I guess I've also had good luck pulling tanks, so that helps.

I think I'll be referencing this video a lot on Reddit, because I've made pretty much all those same arguments nearly on a daily basis. I fully agree with your S-tier list, and I really do love Merc Ramza. I also mention Chow a lot for his healing support and how amazingly useful that is. Great video.

Nice video! I've been playing for a while but this definitely gave me some fun info to chew on for the tanks I don't have... which is most of them. :D Thankfully, I do have Wilhelm, M. Ramza, and A. Rain all at 7 stars, so between the three of them I think I'm covered for almost anything. I agree with you 100%, by the way; the value of a tank is often determined by the rest of the team you're bringing. Right now, I'm basing a lot of my DPS on Hyoh, which means limit bursting. My whole team switched around... I used to do WoL/Wilhelm, Mystea, Ayaka, CG Lid, and CG Nichol, + whichever DPS type I needed. Now it's totally swapped around; now my go-to's are 7* 2B, Zaarg, M.Ramza/A. Rain, Hyoh, and slot open for either a chaining DPS, healer, or whatever I need for the fight. Entrust is a godsend when you're running so many units that have great limit breaks! For me, (in kind of a niche thing due to what units I own), A. Rain comes along for purification and his LB since it chains with Hyoh. (When I can I bring CG Sakura too for even more LB chaining.) It makes him more valuable for me, but my mileage varies in comparison to other teams which may be running units from different chaining families.
So in that respect, I think your disclaimer was perfect, and team configurations aside, I think your list was extremely fair and accurate. Nice job man!
Great video. I was going to use my UOC ticket for Wilhelm and randomly pulled a 2nd M. Ramza. At first I was super disappointed and then I started really looking at him. WOW. Charm and stop resist, all status resist, easy to get 25% element resist across the board, provoke, covers, entrust, breaks....just amazing and super easy to gear.
Like always very good stuff man tho I wish when you do your tour video or trails you can show your equipment for the team on the side of the videos

Really amazing review. very detailed explanations on each unit without just slapping on a grading number that doesnt say much, since every tank excels in their own niches. The moment you called Viktor marchenko a damage dealer with a provoke, i knew its going to be a good review. Since i have always regarded him as a def scaling damage dealer whose SECONDARY role is provoke tanking.
Cannot agree more about merc ramza and Demon rain ranking so high, entrust is amazing, and can make "troll" units like Elfim into the best unit in the game that buffs and breaks while recovering MP/HP. Seriously, the combo of Elfim/Merc Ramza/CG Fina and two chaining damage dealers is pretty sick.
Lately I’ve been using Beryl for a provoke evasion tank to help me clear up 3* esper trials. His innate 30% dodge really makes it easy to hit the 100% cap. He can also break atk/ mag or spr/def along with damage/ chain.
So glad to see some M Ramza Love.
Merc Ramza has been my only 5 star tank until recently, just got my first Basch recently. I pulled M Ramza right after he got enhanced and I'd been using him since. When he got his 7 Star I instantly UoC'd him and I haven't regretted it for a second.

many people always overlook/forgot that WKN's provoke have 150% def and spr buff which is an LB lvl buff from any buffers we have currently (until yuraisha comes?)

Important thing to learn with tanks, incl a few on list:
if they have a cover passive, and you bring two tanks, if one jumps in front of the other that is trying to aoe cover your party, the aoe cover will not proc. Put the tank with the cover passive in first slot (upper left) and the other tank as far to the right as possible (right bottom slot ideally).
Tanks with cover passives on list: A Rain, D Rain, M Ramza, Sieghard.
Totally agree about Siegard, I am so pleased with him. Game changer that he seems to be 😀 boy o boy have we come along way since WOL!!!

What about Marquis de Leon? Everyone has him! He can get 100% passive provoke which is handy when you're using multiple tanks and you don't want certain attacks to go to your cover tank. Otherwise great video.

One thing worth noting is Beryl's evade chance. He has an easier time reaching 100% evade than pretty much any other unit that is a primary tank. This allows him to still stack SPR, HP or elemental resists with his other slots. That said the lack of ability to equip shields is a major downside.
It's definitely a nice perk to keep in mind! Beryl is definitely an awesome tank!

Lilith. She's my absolute favorite. High damage, can cover both magic and physical and has some support. Amazing!
WKN with Zargabaath is insane, and if you add in Seaside Nichol then nobody is dying. Fantastic video.

Mars, awesome videos man, and I can understand your thought process. I love Tanks they are the funniest unit in the game and teaming them up with Zargabaath is just ridiculous LOL. Especially WKN or Siegi... props man!!! Keep up the great work. One thing to note is that Barusa's TMR can give you physical midigation by 30% I believe...
Yes that's correct! pod 153 can as well for anyone who is using it!
I prefer primal instincts in general to pod. The extra turn duration i find more useful than the 10% extra miti

I just 7 star my Mercenary Ramza and I am so very happy I did! Need one more of him for STMR but I can wait!
I have WKN ready for 7 star but need more Gil. Debating on the Regular as well as the Fan Feast UOC. As I only have 1 Sieghard, but want to make him the most Beautiful Tank of All 😱. I also am also debating on 7 staring my Fryevia, I think I have enough Damage Dealers bit she is Beautiful too 😢😭 Also there is the ZargaGod I just pulled my First of him and I was like "Why am I getting only one of each!? Stop torturing me Gumi 😵🤬"
As for the FF UoC I would love a Demon Rain but he will be my first. BUT I did here that you can possibly get a 7star Prism from the Mixer System. So I maybe able to 7 star him. The other units I was looking at were Chow (already have one, but might be hard to get a second), Grim Lord (Lolli) Sakura (Cuz she is so powerful and kawaii 😍).
Anyways sorry for long comment, but thank you for putting this up. I was thinking the same list but my list is this cause I have them lol. 1.Mercenary Ramza Full Coverage. 2. Lilith counters and Charms 3.WKN (Just need to enhance and he will be Number 2).
Luckily I pulled 2 WKN from only 35 tickets, no lapis. I gotta say I agree that he's currently the best provoke/AoE magic cover tank. Not to mention his def can get very high as well.

Thanks for an amazing video. I have Seighard, Wilhelm, Beryl, Basch and Elfreeda. My 2 favorites are Seighard and Beryl. Beryl is so versatile and Seighard is just plain amazing.
They're all such fun units!
@@meetmeonmars You're right though. All these units can fit in a specific battle. Used Wilhelm in the Christmas trial and Basch in the Dabih trial. Top 2 units are Breakers and Tanks. These are the ones that'll make fights easier.
Not sure if it was mentioned in a previous post but tank/breakers can work in another way as well, you could equip another unit with Rikku pouch or world destroyer for turn 1 breaks and then use your tank for breaks during the rest of the fight...but I still agree it is not very slot efficient to have your tank breaking as well
Definitely a good point to remember! Pretty sure a more recent boss would bulldoze you if you just did world destroyer but it's worth noting!

Used my 2nd set of UoC for m. Ramza and haven't regreted for a second. Just amazing tank. And must say that I used those gl uoc tickets for Zargabaath. Those two combined with the Loren makes every boss walk in the park.
Loren + Zarg = all bosses EZ mode
I used my glex UoC for a 2nd Zarg too, best support imo. But I gotta save 20 UoC for Akstar; )
I hope to see more "top 10" lists they help me focus on good units I have a lot of dead wood enhanced and stuff in my box...
M.Ramza may not be the best tank but he is definitely more slot efficient. His entrust is just too good.

M. Ramza is my main tank, 15% elements across the board, status immunity, Phys/Mag cover, and a provoke with mitigation? AAAND his cooldown imperil, entrust, and ATK/MAG breaks?
He is my main tank as well 21k hp 1.1k def and spirit 95% all resist.

You forgot something else any esper magic that you equip to WKN can be dual casted. Let's take a couple of easy scenarios. First equip him with Carbuncle, he can now cast all the Bar Spells twice in one turn for 70% increase to resistance. Another one that I like is Phoenix. When equipped with that esper he can now dual cast raise and get a self re-raise he can cast on his third turn. He can also do the finish with magic not as good as ultima. But you could just equip him with it as it comes form 3* terra a really easy one to get.
Excellent review! I am still holding on to my FF UoC and currently my best bet is to use for Demon Rain since I can 7* him and I don't have a WKN or a Chow (yet.) I like your theory on a Curaja tank in Chow, which will make him a REALLY GOOD BOY! But you might have solidified my choice to use the ticket on the counter demon tank! Hopefully we'll get news on Chow before the ticket expires. Thanks for the vid!

Great video as always, I really needed a tank ranking video! Though I have a dilema, I was going to use my UoC on Chow but I pulled a WKN along with my Christine 7*. Right now I'm not sure if I should use it on Noel or Chow, and the UoC is about to end. I know Noel is freaking amazing right now, but we don't know how good Chow will be. Any suggestions?
I'd probably do WKN since he can definitely also be a provoke tank and we don't know what Chow will be able to do. But if you like the idea of using Chow more, get him instead!
Only two 7 star tanks for me, Basch and sieghard and got both at around same time when I wasn’t even trying for them. Very glad sieghard made it to top on your list
Couple general comments/observations regarding tanks:
It’s fair to say that due to current and future content, if you lack tanks period, you’ll want a physical tank first. But getting that magic tank should be on the list of priorities, esp if you’re also lacking elemental resist gear and mats.
It’s true can go full dodge, but that won’t help when you’re provoking or drawing magic attacks or dealing with accuracy, fixed dmg, and critical hits.
If a unit can do both, that’s great, as long as they can cover at least one role very well.
WKN Bring It On also grants himself 150% def and spr buff in addition to the 50% type mitigations. Freakin’ crazy. I did level his lb as well, but moreso for the mp refresh.
That list is pretty much the order in which I use my tanks, except my Sieg is 6*, something I have to talk myself out of UoCing daily hoping for random dupe.
Lol Curaja / healing. Cecil meta returns! I rerolled for Cecil. CG someday.
Extra note : His mitigation is stack with regular mitigation, which mean some abilties such as Ace's TOP hand could reduce the damage even further.

Finally someone shining up Merc.Ramza. His equipment choices and TMR passive ability is the best. He can easily gear up for 100% evasion plus stop & charm immunity without the needs of RoL.
Hi Meetmeonmars, since you raised this issue, I would like to ask advice regarding choosing between D.Rain and Lilith. I have 1 of each at 6 stars, but I only have 1 Fan festa ticket which I can use to make either a 7star Lilith or 7start D. Rain. Which should I choose??

A tank can have any secondary role, except break, it isnt anyway slot efficient! cos you need to break (and i mean a real break not World destroyer or chaos grenade) and aoe cover in the First turn in the last trials! I really like chainers (as lilith) and heal/support (as a rain) as secondary roles. Lately i just use a rain as my provoke/healer and lilith as my aoe cover.

Given you mentioned how WKN's limit burst synergizes with Lunera.
Basch synergizes well with any of the dps/breaker roles such as 2B/Loren
Not to mention Basch has self reraise that also gives lb gauge to other allies. His other 7* skill gives 100 def/spr buff as well. Too amazing to be the bottom of A tier

Could you make a video talking about the mitigations in full detail? I hear it a lot in ppls ffbe vids but no one really fully describes it with specific examples of skills (or how the wording of that skill let's us know if its general or specific miti, and what stacks or what not) thanks!

Actually alot of people have discussed it. And even the icons for it are updated now.There's three types of Damage Reduction. Physical DR, Magical DR and Global DR. The first two pretty much have the name on the tin. Global covers both. The affects are multiplicative not additive. Meaning that if you had 40% Phys DR and 30% Global DR, Thats not 70% DR. Its going to chunk the number up each time in the equation. Swings at you for 1000, 40% DR drops that to 600 Dmg, then that other 30% kicks in and bumps it down to 400 dmg. Rough math there just to get the concept across.
With only 1 of Gladioulus, Basch, Wilhelm, Demon Rain, was leaning towards Demon Rain as my only 7* tank since limited. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

My go-to Provoke tank has been Wilhelm while my AoE Magic cover tank was Lilith because of her high SPR & easy access to elemental mitigation (+ she can AR chain with good units). I was so focused on Wilhelm that I forgot that I had a STMR M.Ramza already xD. So I will probably change my provoke tank to M.ramza while keeping Lilith has my AoE magic cover tank. Beside, you said multiple time, it's all about having fun right? =D

I'm also stuck at who to use my FF UoC. I have 1 WKN, but I'm hoping to get 1 more before the banner ends and then maybe use it on Chow if I get 1 from his rerun banner (tho the schedule is hecking tight since the FF UoC runs out at the end of January...). But I just feel like Chow will be easily the top magic cover tank at 7*, all he needs is a 3 turn provoke (just that + all his current utility would make him the best) if they also give him some extra utility (higher healing, AoE break resistance or AoE ailment immunity)? Goodest boi ever hands down.
I have Wilhelm, Merc Ramza, and D Rain at 7*.
And man oh man is it hard who to choose.
Wilhelm can usually always and reliably use his LB during his off turns.
But Ramza's sprite looks amazing...

I have a 7 star A.Rain and a 6 star Sieghart. Would that 7th star make Rain better in general or would it still be fight dependent?
i wonder how much evade/damage is best on demon rain in comparison to tanky stats. i have spare rings of the lucii and i am using one instead of his tmr.

I love my Merc Ramza and use him for everything and even if I get 7 Star Wilhelm or Sieghard, Merc Ramza would be my Number 1 and for magic Tank Beryl until CG Charlotte. Thanks for the Video :)

Actually ranked my Tank number 1 just made Sieghard the other day and I love him so far. Poor WoL just got fully enhanced too lol

So in theory Awakened Rain and Sieghard together would work in some cases?
My Sig doesn't know what damage is. He has 25k HP and 1600 defense. The beautiful boy shrugs at the front line. Lilith has about 14k HP with 1600 Spirit which means she won't die to anything. I use these two for my needs I never got chow. Might pull for the good boy when his banner comes back around. Although my team doesn't generally last more then the turns required due to my DPS haha. Great video Mars.
Zenphoshen I wanted Lilith 7* but wasnt gonna spend lapis on that trap banner...
@@thealieneliteshe was easily worth it. She is my go to magic tank. She may not be able to tank as well as Awaken Rain or Noel but she dishes out a lot of damage and I haven't come across anything that can kill her yet. Now Lucius is only good for his TMR for Tifa when she comes out. I use Lilith to chain with my Malph and Loren and now have my Kingdom Hearts Cloud chain and finish with them :D Lilith is also self sustaining and can pretty much never run out of MP due to her A Ray chaining move that heals and gives her mp back. I like her more then all the other Magic Cover tanks. I agree with Mars she is not the best at tanking but she gets the job done and does it pretty darn good.
Zenphoshen Yeah I like her...assets too :) I could get one of her but who wants a 6* lying around?

Well mine doesn't know DMG cause he is full evade with 15k hp and ±900 spr.

I think I might experiment with 6* Seighard & 6*WKN. Only have their 6*'s.
Beryl is my favorite Magical tank. I build him DW so turn 1 magic cover then turn 2-3 chain it up with Divine Ruination or Chaos Wave(depending on party comp) keeping that rotation. He was my total mvp during my Marlboro 2.0 boss trial. His self buff upon starting battle or reraising is nothing to shrug off either. I wish other tanks had that ability but each tank to their own.
I have a single copy of demon rain and WKN, and I still haven't used the fan fiesta's ticket. I have a 7* a.rain, willhelm and recently basch. Who would you pick between the two? My friend loves demon rain but I really can't decide between the two. I like the fact that WKN has tornado but d. rain's mitigation seems really nice.
Demon Rain All Day! That's who I chose. He is Super Rare and his counters are Super Strong! You will counter enemies to Oblivion!
I just started using ramza and he a beast actually. But I want to incorporate demons rain cause of his counters
beryl has a secret weapon, the 600 spr scaling counter on some bosses he can counter with like 300k per hit for like 10 times on some bosses, saves my butt some times
My favorite is Noel because I like reading his bio and quotes
I think you need to mention the auto-cover skills. That one is pretty much a double-edge but it also has it advantageous.
Would you consider 7* Olive as a tank? I have her jacked up w/ boosts so her hp and attack is pretty high
Beryl's lack of "proper" tank gear like shields has me thinking his ability enhancements will include a large all Ele Resist boost(50%+ I hope) like LMS's passive boost also, I feel like you glossed over alot of the "perks" some of these tanks have, like passive stop/charm immunity/resist or things like Beryl's auto-buffs of mitigation,LB fill rate, and 120% SPR buff, do you not find these things particularly useful/niche?

I'll preface this, I am a dolphin so I spend some money, I recently got a second Merc Ramza, so he will be 7* soon, I was contemplating using my FFUoC on either D Rain or Lilith as I was lucky enough to get one of each, but I have 7* Wilhelm, Viktor, A Rain, Basch, so I wasn't sure if I should use on either of them or possibly use on Chow and expect his 7* to be epic and hope to pull him on a Step-Up

Wow this a a good video the only problem is RNGesus keep using tank unit evade on me everytime i pull.... Either it gave me a tons of VOE/Cecil..... Or one copy only of the tank..... Right now a got 1 basch and seighart... Should i use my uoc for on one of them? Advice please... I

Sieghard is god tank. I hoarded for that dude for months and I pulled 7 off banner rainbows!!! I would UOC him in a heartbeat if I had actually pulled one. Just do it!!!
I'm running D.Rain for physical stuff: 100% passive provoke, 1533 def, 817 spr, 23k HP. with his counters he builds up LBs nicely

I uoc'd the best boi, not regretting XD, the only tank I got was cecil, and wished for wilhelm, but fated with m.ramza in the end. (just gonna utilise whatever it gave me, lol)
I'm fine with the rankings , but I think you should mention awakened rains limit break damage . It's pretty bonkers . I've cleared trials with just x2 awakened Rain. It also 'chain's with hyohs limit break ( the timing is a bit weird )
I would put both a rain and wkn above demon rain for only one reason: specialty resistance.
One has charm and the other stop resistance.
I haven’t seen a decent boss lately that doesn’t have one or the other. If you provoke that ailment, it frees up the party to just not care.
With the others, they get stopped, or you have to bring ayaka (if you have her and I do), but if you don’t, you’re stopped.
This destroys many powerful teams.

I personally keep my lilith on a quality build. Just over 1k DEF and 1k SPR and 20k HP. And have a funky Kryla 100% evade provoke tank. That works well becasue Kryla has very high HP, SPR and elemental resistance For single target magic. Just a thought.

I bring M.Ramza to everything and he is by far my fave physical tank in the game. Sure his mitigation & stats aren't as high as say Willy or Sieg but he makes up with his versatility. Entrust is so valuable and having it on a tank is a godsend.
As for magical I just got Kung Fu Rain so haven't really used him since he isn't leveled as of yet but for now Basch gets the job done. Being able to equip everything in the game makes him very flexible on how to gear him for anything. When we get the elemental roulette that JP has Basch won't be the best but from what i hear he still gets by pretty well.....until CG Charlotte takes over.
Physical Mitigation is pretty easy to put on other units, just use Pod 153. Admittedly, that is a limited unit TMR, but anyone can equip it. But one of the other things that is fantastic for Sieghard is that he can have 100% passive provoke, 100% evade, and all status immunity in a single build with the right TMRs
