Should I do the newer Jumanji movies?!
YESSS!
totally
I'd even watch a rewatch reaction to the sequel because we all know your ass forgot everything about it by now lol. and it would be fun to watch your reaction of it all in order. even if you remember some stuffs
You should watch zathura first before those other ones
No
An additional layer to the hunter Van Pelt - he's played by the same actor as Alan's father as he's a representation of Alan's fractured relationship with his father.
Love the reaction as always!
Jonathan Hyde. He's a great actor, why does nobody ever seem to know his name?
@@lordtrigon1733yes he was in other movies… Titanic, Richie Rich, Anaconda
@@nsasupporter7557 The Mummy, Dinotopia, The Strain.
@@nsasupporter7557
The mummy!
Also that line at the end when he says "you're finally acting like a man" hits so much harder when you realize it's the same actor.
That symbolism isn't present in the show, sadly.
"For what reason the pelican wants the game?"
One thing that many reactors miss while watching this film is that the board game is not only magical, it's kind of alive. And, while it's bound to give you a chance to solve the current problem, it's also bent into making increasingly hard to finish the game (it seems the game only has to provide you with a general chance to find a solution to the general problem, but has no limitation on making the situation as deadly as possible).
Sure, Sarah could have tried to get Allan out... god knows what surprises the game had in store for her (alone), if she had kept rolling. Out of that slim chance to the player, the game's goals seems to be clear: to make as difficult as possible finishing it (and vanishing all its magic consequences).
Also that's how the game will not stay hidden underwater: the game not only has magic protection, it kind of has a mind on its own.
also it can turn itself into a video game
I mean, could Sarah have rolled again? I'm thinking about the fact that Peter, Judy and Allan couldn't since it was her turn, so it needs 4 players, no?
Semi mostly unrelated, there's also a theory that the game is not actually dangerous. You either can't die, or if you do, you just start over. The game isn't really about getting your piece to the center first, it's about the adrenaline and excitement of a "near-death" experience. Kinda like a haunted house. I doubt it was the intention, but I think I prefer that interpretation regardless. If the game was malicious, why would it undo all the damage and return you to when/where you started after you win? Why not just be like "welp good for you, you lost 30 years of your life and your house is trashed. Congrats"
@@MidnightHowling Back when Allan was taken by the game, it seems she could; because there were only to pieces on the board. It's never clarified in the film if the game expects always 4 players or it allows some more to be added still in the first stages of the game.
That's why when Peter and Judy find the game, their pieces get added to the board (they were in the box, but they were not active yet).
@@Coco-oy5sm It is possible; and it still would play within the rules of "making it as difficult as possible to win". Objectively: the box never says you won't die as a consequence of the game.
That leaves the option of risking it all or not up to you... of you really want to face the risl or not (like Sarah did, she left the house and the game never, ever paused the game; for what the box says and a regular user knows, you can't disappear the things the game does unless you win... no matter how.mich time it takes). Whatever magic was used to create it... they went to quite some lengths to up the excitement.
And that could count as some for of sentience to get to that point: to make it as exciting as possible... even not letting you know you may not die (it will hurt... a lot, though XD).
The Board game is basically the 1 Ring. It has a mind and will of its own. IT WANTS TO BE FOUND lmao
And now I want to see the Fellowship rolling the dice.
@@christopherb501 And Gandalf has to be GM x)
The game must. . .be. . .played.
"You're not a postal worker, are you?" is a great joke that is so specifically of its time.
kids nowadays have no idea where the term "go postal" comes from
I don't think anyone beyond that generation even uses the phrase "go postal" anymore lol
One of my favorite Robin Williams movies from my childhood.
RIP, Robin, we love you, we miss you, been almost 10 years since you left us.
Robin Williams is absolutely my movie-Dad
I remember watching this in theaters as a kid. I still remember everyone in the theater cracking up at the scene where the hunter screams after being sent flying.
GNU Robin Williams.
8:08 Fun fact, the mosquito in the amber in Jurassic Park was literally the ONE type of mosquito they couldn't have gotten blood from. That was an elephant mosquito, they only eat *other mosquitoes.* There are thousands of kinds of mosquitos and about a hundred bite humans. The rest are weirdly specialized. There is, for example, a kind of mosquito that ONLY bites crocodiles...I'm rather glad those things don't want human blood, considering the toughness of crocodile skin...
I didn’t even know mosquitoes that big actually existed
Some fun facts on the movie:
• Robin Williams was beloved by Keene, New Hampshire townsfolk during filming. He was even presented with the keys to the city by Keene's mayor in 1994. After his death in 2014, Keene residents crafted a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles below the Parrish Shoes sign, and even organized a public screening of the film. The Parrish Shoes sign is still on display in Keene, New Hampshire.
• According to author Chris Van Allsburg, the word "jumanji" is Zulu for "many effects," which alludes to "the exciting consequences of the game" as mentioned in the film.
• Robin Williams admitted that he did not need to act startled for the scene where Van Pelt is shooting at him, as the blank gunfire was extremely loud on set.
• Though the movie's plot differs greatly from that of the book on which it is based, the ending of the film is very similar. In the book, the two children who find the game at the end are named Walter and Danny, the main characters from Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005). However, the Zathura movie is a stand-alone film, divorced from the Jumanji cinematic universe.
You mentioned how young Kristen Dunst was here she was actually in a movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt called Interview With A Vampire
Yes, Interview with the Vampire was the previous year.
Fun fact: Scarlett Johansson was considered for the role of Kirsten Dunst in this movie
Peter turned into a monkey because the game said “A law of Jumanji has been broken, you will step back even more than your token”
He effectively went backwards in evolutionary terms.
As someone mentioned, the guy who played the dad is also the hunter. He also played Bruce Ismay in Titanic 🙂
Yes and Richie Rich and Anaconda
"atavism", it's called.
"This kid is drawn to the chest... he's trying to pull it out"
Yeah, been there
What do you mean by that?
@@thestarsailor972it's a dirty joke

Man this movie was my whole childhood and those drums…those freakin drums…I don’t care how old I am they have scarred me for life
"why on God's green earth would it be a vampire." i see you Reese 😂
It makes me sad that no one is giving any credit to David Alan Grier as the cop 😞 he partially carried this movie as the comic relief
"Fine! TAKE IT!"

One of my favorite Childhood Robin Williams movies. Next to “Hook” and “Mrs. Doubtfire”
I second that notion!
@@stevendalloesinghyes, those are his most popular movies… Unfortunately, as talented as he is he still had weaker movies… Toys, Father’s Day, Bicentennial Man, Jack, Flubber. Those are his weaker movies
@@nsasupporter7557 Jack might not have been a revolutionary film worthy of mega awards, But he nailed that role.
@@RandomPickles Jack was a good movie! Despite it’s critical response. I understand why it’s considered one of his worst movies, but it was a good movie regardless
Since that’s the youngest she’s seen Kirsten Dunst, she definitely needs to do a reaction to Interview With The Vampire, one of my favorite movies and my favorite portrayal of vampires. I need it!
Carl’s “FINE TAKE IT!” has lived in my head rent free since I was 6
Should check out Zathura! Also very good underrated movie which is basically a sequel
*spin-off; it's even less of a "sequel" than Split was.
Disagree, it's more of a sequal than the newer Jumaniji movies are. @@christopherb501
😄 I think the scene at 21:45 where the cop is surfing down the street on that door and screams, just might be the funniest moment of the 1990s. 🤓 If you liked this, then you'd probably also enjoy another goofy 1990s paranormal comedy called "Small Soldiers" (1998) which also has Kirsten Dunst in it, albeit three years older. 😎👍
I love this movie! You should definitely watch the sequels and Zathura (the sequel to the book) it is also a classic and rivals this first one imo
yesss zathura is also good!
omg ange, this is one of my favorite movies! although the sequels were fun, the original hits the feels every single time.
5:54 “These winged things” are bats. Every time they roll the dice, wordings in the screen appear to be the hints of what’s coming out of the game.
Truly a amazing movie. Much better than the Jumanji “sequels”
what sequels..
Sequels aren’t bad, they’re just no as good as the first
@@joshhan2821I didn’t say they were bad, I just said they weren’t as good and they aren’t true sequels but more like a reboot
The sequels are pretty good, the third especially
I like Zathura. It's more of a spiritual sequel than an actual sequel but it's way better than jumanjis actual sequels. Nothing beats the original tho.
Kids today will never know the experience of reading the Jumanji children’s picture book in school, being absolutely enthralled with the concept, and then a few years later, getting to watch this in theatres.
This was the Mary Poppins, the James and the Giant Peach… the Harry Potter for 90’s kids.
Correction: Alan was 12 when they started playing the game, making him 38 in 1995
I suggest THE NEVERENDING STORY.
YES! My favorite movie as a kid.
I suggested Hook but that's a great one too
@@Danny_R_happy 40th anniversary to Never-Ending Story… 1984

A great underrated young Kristen Dunst movie from this era is Small Soldiers (1998), adventure, comedy, action; Big stars like Phil Hartman and Kevin Dunn (dad from Transformers), a near perfect movie💯
Can we all please stop saying “underrated” so much?? It’s very annoying. I don’t know when “underrated” became everybody’s favorite word but it’s just irritating to hear now because everybody says it so much
@@nsasupporter7557 Underrated
The boards theme song will forever be iconic
Great film, saw this in theaters as a kid. Kirsten Dunst was in a lot of stuff as a kid. The earliest I've seen was when she was in Star Trek, Interview with the Vampire was another big role.
Did you notice how the hunter was played by the same man who played the father?
If at all the players die, the game resets to the beggining ensuring there will always be a winner... eventually
Alan's words when getting pulled into Jumanji was "Roll the Dice"
ANGELINA did you recognize the same actor who played Alan's father was Van Pelt. Meant to be the incarnation of fear for Alan.
13:27 The acting in this.scene was incredible and hilarious! 😂💪
The postal worker comment is because there was a rash of shootings at post offices by workers at the time of release. That's where the term going postal comes from if you heard it
If that’s the youngest you’ve seen Kirsten Dunst, you really need to watch ‘interview with the vampire’. Not just for Kirsten but just because I think it’s a film everyone should see. Tom cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio banderas, Christian slater and dunst.
Just to be ridiculously historically accurate the sword Alan used to kill the vine was not a katana it was an Officer's saber maybe from the Civil War approximately.
Alan’s father and Van Pelt were played by the same actor.
Yeah, he’s been on some other things also… Titanic, Richie Rich, Anaconda…
i could have sworn that you had already reacted to this movie. still fun to see your face when the "twenty-six years later" is revealed. there is also another movie based off a book by the same author who wrote jumanji, it is called zathura. you shou check it out.
one of my favorites, columbia house sent me like 4 copies of the vhs cassette tapes and only one of them worked
20:47 "How Allen Parish made it in this part of jungle" my headcanon was that it was due to his roll. The game said he would have to wait and so it was part of his roll to survive. Jamanji still put him through hell, but only what he could survive. Of course there is the theory that the game never intended any death/harm without reward.
One of the first films that I saw in the cinema when I was a kid and remains one of my favourite movies of all time. God I miss Robin Williams.
The actress's name who plays mary jane is kirsten dunst and if u think she's young in this movie, u obviously havent watched interview with the vampire. I think she was like 6 in that movie.
*12; the character was 6 in the book.
@@christopherb501 thank you for the clarification
That “Omg vampire?” almost took me out! 😂😂😂
i did't really see alan complaining about the boarding school as first world problems because his real issue with being sent was that he felt his dad was doing it to get rid of him.
8:39 It's alright 😂💪
That would of been crazy if a vampire did appear 😂
"OMG THERE ARE NPC'S!"
that made me laugh hard
Should watch the movie Zathura next! It’s a must watch after watching this
There is also a JUMANJI cartoon show.
Glad SOMEONE else remembered it.
There were so many terrifying cg horrors this movie implanted in my brain when i was younger. Looking back at this dreadful nightmare manifestor it only gets scarier...
I love Alan and Sarah becoming adults
14:22 I didn't even think of that! Great catch! 😂💪
Hi Ange, you look very nice!😊 The two sequels are great, with a fine twist!🏆🏆 Great reactions to the first film in the Jumaji series, Ange!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
This is my go-to childhood movie, great reaction
Great reaction to a great movie 😊 I watched this at my childhood after school club on VHS, we didn't know what the movie was about when we choose it but those drums were so scary and captavating at the same time 😂
Omg!! I’m so excited for this reaction ❤❤❤
It took me a while until I understood a few things about the game:
About who hears the drums. It's not just kids that can hear them and I only noticed it after watching the movie several times:
"Jumanji: a game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind."
That's what all the kids wanted for different reasons. Allen wanted to go away, Sarah wanted to be there for him, Judy and Peter because they lost their parents. They might not have realized it, but they wanted to leave their world behind. That's exactly what the game gave them and also taught them that maybe their world isn't so bad.
Why did the pelican take the game? Because the game hinders and helps the players. It creates obstacles to overcome, but also helps them by keeping outside interference that would stop them playing away. That's for example why the monkeys drove the police car, so that Carl follow and they could keep on playing.
I’ve seen some people think that the kids don’t remember Allan and Sarah, but we can tell from their excited looks that they do.
This is where the fun begins! This is a classic movie! Robin Williams was great in this film RIP! Regardless, hope you like it! 🙏🏽💪
I personally don't enjoy the sequels, but I love that you finally reacted to this one!
And I adore the Vander cameo at the end!
This movie and The Mummy 1&2 are movies that I can just watch again and again
I love the way that Alan was screaming to become an adult in the game
Remember what Judy said, the effects of the game will only go away once the game is over. So since Alan lost 26 years of his life as part of the game. He gets them back once the game ends.
Such a good amazing movie when l was little
You need to watch Bicentennial Man with Robin Williams, you will be stunned with his serious side and comedy as well.
"Why on God's green earth would it be a vampire"- Ress (i don't know how write it out) make me laught so much🤣 i was thinking "vampires are not related to the jungle"
Jumanji is one of my favorite childhood movies. I use this class often in my classes when teaching. You are my online crush and have the cutest smile. 🥰 Please react to more Jumanji movies. I love seeing you. I pray our paths cross in the near future.🙃
Surprisingly, the pre-intro gave off Universal studios intro vibes, well done.
A movie With Kirsten Dunst younger than this is Interview with the Vampire. I think she was 9 at the time of filming, and co-starred with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
I always really loved her in Little Women (1994) with Winona Ryder and Christian Bale. I know she plays a young Amy which is suppose to be a bit of a brat but she's just so darn charming and such a great actress that adult Amy seemed robotic in comparison.
Fun fact: Scarlett Johansson was considered for the Kirsten Dunst character in Jumanji
@@roguechevelleI’ve never been into Kirsten Dunst… I thought she was the wrong choice for Mary Jane in Spider-Man
The actor playing Alan Parrish's father is the same actor playing Van Pelt the hunter.
A strange movie … better than the sequels.
such a lovely film this was.
P.S. the remaster was fun to me to a degree as well. I haven't seen the others

It took me over 20 years to realize the hunter was just his dad in a mustache.
If I remember right, they did the animation like that to show that they were obviously from a game.
You should see Kirsten in Interview with the Vampire. She gave one hell of a performance

That intro was so Agnes from Despicable Me coded 😂😂
if you want to see a very young Kirsten Dunst you should watch "Interview with the Vampire". Very cool movie. I advise
You need to check out interview with a vampire as that’s when Kirsten dunst had her first and best role
Peter's father and the hunter dude were played by the same actor
Speaking of childhood movies, it would be so cool if Angelina reacted to National treasure
"What river were you in?"
One of those rare rivers that empty into the ocean or into a river that empties into the ocean.
Very underrated movie, absolute classic.
No it’s not underrated!! This movie was a huge success at the box office in 1995 and it’s cherished as a classic today! Can we all please stop falsely labeling everything as “underrated!” Do people not even know the definition of “underrated??”
The scene where the lion comes out of SCARY when I was young.
Monsoon don't equate to Crocodiles, But Lagoon does. Monsoon in your lagoon.
17:24 that sums it up perfectly :D
A law of Jumanji has been broken, you will set back more then your token. In other words hit token goes back to start position AND he de-evolves into a monkey. Setting back his evolution
