OK, here’s my updated video! Now that I’m on baby two, I realized I needed even less. Obviously there are some additional items: diaper pail, actual diapers, etc but I think those are pretty obvious and there are so many choices! It’s all personal. Share your must-haves in the comments to help other new parents!
My daughter was born a few weeks after your daughter and she's super alert too... she started babling a lot at two months old and having "baby conversations" with us and our family x) How do you entertain a baby who gets bored quickly? My baby asks for a lot of attention and playtime together and that's exhausting...! thanks for the tip on cradle caps... :)
Jacquelyn Fenoli they are not really comparable. Dockatot people typically use for their children to sleep in. It’s a co-sleeper for the bed or anywhere really. Some people also put it in their bassinet, but that’s not considered safe. The boppy lounger is for sitting your baby on. It’s not for them to sleep. It sort of has them a little propped up. I had a small baby and could not use it for a while, but once I felt he was bigger it is super helpful for them to “sit” in. I reccomend it. I reccomend dockatot to for co-sleeping, but also consider the snuggle me organic bed as a comparison. We didn’t get that one but I have also heard good things about it, and my son would probably have liked it more as he is a snuggler. Hope that helped!
Love all these tips. Pregnant with baby number 4. I have used a lot of these with my other babies. I am sorry there are so many negative people on here that feel their opinions are needed. If you don’t have something nice to say keep your mouth shut.
I really don't know why I clicked on to best baby items at the age of 72 - you looked kind and interesting. What amazed me was that we had almost all of the items in replica form other than the electronics. Two things that I couldn't live without were a bath sponge that fit in a full sink or the tub eventually and out era's free your hands go to item - the johnny jump up that attached to a door frame. Great video - I was captivated!
We have a big family, and I nursed all at least 1 year, but they all were introduced to the bottle early as well. Our youngest three were 3 under 1 (one then twins). Have bottle being option (and Dad being able to feed them) was necessary because we also had older kids we have to run around to activities, school and part time job for the oldest.
I just want to say what the nurses in Denmark told me. There is no such thing as nipple confusion but more like laziness. Due to fast pace of bottle, if you introduce bottle to them before they work their muscles, they will prefer the bottle. That's why there are bottles like medela calma so they have to work for the flow.
Wow good to know! Im glad my mother in law gifted me instead of normal bottles, bottles that mimic the real breast instead. 😊 i plan on breasfeeding but there are times when daddy will be doing alot of the feeding so she got me those
I agree, I had to introduce bottle immediately after birth because my baby was premie and hypoglycemia and she started to get used to it. And hated to breast feed
@@dontejaculateovermycinnamo3127 The pediatrician breastfeeding advocate here in Norway (Gro Nylander) says in her books that the baby should take the breast like you eat a hamburger (good for emptying the breast and will not make you sore), with a bottle, the baby eats like its slurping in a spaghetti. So the confusion makes the baby take the breast the wrong way and are more sucking on the nipple (not good as you get sore and no milk flow and will cause frustration for the baby). I do not think that all babies get confused, its just a thing that can happen so its good to know so you can fix it. You fix it by serving the baby your breast like a hamburger, so the baby gets a mouthful of breast in his mouth :)
For anyone looking for a cheaper option to the bouncer, fisher price has an infant to toddler rocker that all my friends swear by and one actually bought me for my baby shower. It usually runs about $20-$40. It’s a great little rocker but also has a kick stand to keep it still so you’re able to move it around with you and put it certain in certain places without worrying about it rocking. It also has a bar with toys on it and a vibration feature. Nearly all my friends recommended it to me. And it last up to the toddler stage!
My daughter was born about 3 weeks before Ayla. Definitely agree about cute outfits - until they can sit up on their own anything with a sweater or vest or non onesie top just gets in the way. We lived in zipper sleepers until about 2.5 months and now during the day we do onesies and sweatpants/leggings. For people who don’t want to buy a scale - see if there are lactation consultants in your area. A lot of them will rent scales buy month/week for a fairly reasonable price. Mine actually lent me one for free for 2 weeks and that was long enough to get comfortable with breastfeeding.
Huge fan of the Solly Baby wrap! I can actually go hands-free with this wrap and it’s PERFECT for newborn babies. I’ve used it with both my boys. I agree with the onesies too!
I absolutely prefer the target brand cloud island water wipes to the "water wipe" brand, they are thicker, bigger and cheaper. Also the same brand of diapers are great. Thanks for the tips!
Stephanie Watson Good to know! We currently use water wipes with our 8 week old, but they aren’t thick enough! I’ll definitely try the cloud island brand now!

Susan I use Burt’s Bees ointment and swear by it. It has gotten so many great reviews. My little one is 16 months now and I have used it on his diaper irritation to moisturizing his skin. It is definitely a multipurpose product.
Their diaper cream is the only one (and I have tried every single kind I have ever seen in store) that works for my daughter. She has really sensitive skin and will get diaper rash literally overnight.
Just bought a Boppy Newborn Lounger off of my cousins baby registry after showing my mom Sudan’s video in the middle of Target and saying see they’re awesome 😎 Thank-you for the update video! Neither of us have had a baby or really shopped for a baby in the last 5 years so knowing updated newborn essentials/things that make parents lives easier was much appreciated 😀
I tried the Doona this weekend. I really liked it, however, it is not made if you are a taller mom. I am 6' feet tall and the handle does not adjust higher. So for the taller moms make sure you go to your local baby store to try it first.
The baby Bjorn bouncer is truly a must have!!!! Our LO came a little earlier than expected, so we didn’t have very many options as far as where to put baby if we needed our arms free for a few minutes but we had the bouncer and it’s been a life saver! Now if only I could have one for upstairs and one for down stairs 😂
I just turned 6 months pregnant and I've been watching sooooo many newborn must-have videos and a lot of them just seemed to be excessive or not really fitting to my lifestyle. However this video has helped me so much!!!! Thank you for uploading this video :)
I am going to be a father in Sept 2020!! So excited because it is my first time. However, I came across this awesome video. So helpful and useful information. Thank you!!
I watched your videos to get ready for my first baby, and I’m back watching again now that I’m expecting baby #2! This is so on point 👌🏻 I never liked using the mitten covers on my first baby’s onesies, but her nails were crazy long and sharp from day one. I never used the nail clippers we had, because they were so scary to me. I’ve been using tiny sharp embroidery scissors to trim her nails since day one and we’ve never had any accidents or problems
I have almost bought everything in your first newborn must have two years ago! Currently pregnant with my second and just ordered a doona! Thank you for all the tips and also thank you for the sleep trainning video it litteraly save my life with my first lol!
If the doona is too expensive for you, Graco has 5 star reviewed snugfit car seats for less than $100 bucks, and you can get the stroller attachment that you just set the carseat on and it snaps on. the combo is about $200 total instead of $600 doona.
10:50-11:12 haha we cut my son’s nails with a baby clipper before leaving the hospital in his first days of life and we’ve been clipping them at least once a week ever since. He was born with really long nails, overhanging his finger tips, and his nails grow SO fast.
If you live in a hot climate, regular onesies and a muslin swaddle are important when you're outside. Muslin swaddle blankets typically do enough to block the sun without adding too much heat. Now if you're laying baby directly in the sun for long periods, long sleeve rash guards are great. They're very breathable and are upf 50 so you can use that when they're too young for sunscreen.
Loved the boppy lounger for 4 of my kids. Due in Dec and its now recalled. I just gave mine away last year to my daughter (who's since dog has gotten to it). I will miss it this time around
I love this video!!! So great to hear a mom's perspective the second time around. Seven months in with my first and I'm already finding myself narrowing down the things I use day to day. Oh and I NEED THE DOONA!!!
Sleepers for life 🙌 cold weather climates, Patagonia for bunting is the only brand that is thin enough to let you hold your baby, but warm enough to let your baby be comfortable and Minnetonka has inexpensive booties that are wool and keeps put.
yuki banez how long does it really last ? I’ve been debating weather to get it or just go with a travel system but don’t wanna spend 200-300 for the doona if it only works for 10 months
@@3759938 Weight limit is until 15kg so really it depends on how will your child like to stay in it when he is bigger. I think. Yes the price is quite up there but it really is worth it!
Omg where have I been last time I ever saw a video of yours your son was like 8 months I believe, and now you had another?!? I’m guessing the reason why I’m back my first son is 2 years old and a couple of months and now I just found out I’m 6 weeks pregnant!! So here I am re watching these videos!! ❤️🔥
Love your videos! The only thing I would say is that the Doona isn't really a great option for large babies! For instance, I'm 5'9", size 4 and athletic. But my baby weighed 18 lbs at 3 months, exclusively breastfed. He's now 21 months, 30 lbs and 31 inches. So, the Doona would not have been a good investment for us as my son was out of an infant carseat by 6 months.
If I had another babe I definitely want the magnetic me ones, those sound amazing. I wish they weren’t so expensive- yes for me, but mostly for Nicu... they’d be so useful to them. My daughter was In there for four months and they preferred button ups because of all the cords and wires, but it takes forever and the magnetic ones would really allow for the cords to go anywhere. I think it would be such a good idea if Magnetic me (or similar companies) offered a good discount for people if they have proof they donated their used ones to a hospital.
LuvanMusiq it’s really easy. Just fill an old clean container with cornstarch (something with holes in the lid works best). When changing your bub, wipe everything clean and dry. Then shake the cornstarch on like you would baby powder. Dry cornstarch on a dry bottom. Then just put on the nappy/diaper and you’re all done. A simple powdering of cornstarch each time you do a bum change and I swear you will not see a rash! I watched my sister use it with all three of her babies - it’s all natural and saves you a lot of money. Best thing about it though is that your baby is comfy. :)
100% agree with the onesie thing. I got so many outfits at my baby shower and I just put her in it for pictures. Then back into a onesie. Although I would leave her in a baby romper. Which I just say is a fancy onesie. 😂 We had to start on with bottles because my daughter had a hard time latching. After we figured that out she transitions flawlessly from bottle to nipple. Somedays I just pump and bottle feed, somedays I just nurse. Just depends on what needs to be done that day.
I LOVE my doona. The BEST thing ever. I got it with my son and he's almost 1 and we are still using it. I freaking love it so much. We will definitely use it with our next as well!
Love your videos! I’m also a new mom again (2month old and 2 year old) and I was curious to see what you had for your second time around. Doona is def a splurge. We got the Uppababy vista and using the cybex infant car seat we used with a first, which both our babies have hated (we will probably have to switch to the convertible early with this one too). But babies shouldn’t be in car seats for too long so I love using the bassinet when we go to the mall, on walks, etc. The magnetic onesies - yasss!! They are amazing. I got 2 pairs while they were on sale and we love them. So convenient and easy. Zippers are for sure the next best thing.
Omg! Absolutely agree about not dressing up baby!! Onsies all the way 🙌🏼 my daughter is 4 mo too and even those big bows bother me!!! Only for pics. Comfort over “Cute” lol
Thanks for all the tips. I have a baby similar aged to yours 😊 Since you shared all of your tips I thought maybe I’d share one with you. If you’re having trouble with bottles... try the Lansinoh Momma ones. It’s the bottle that lactation consultants find most successful with babies who don’t want to take a bottle. Just one to try
I’m 14 and I definitely want kids in the future. Twins run on my mom’s side. I feel like with expensive gear like the Doona, you can use for multiple kids, pass down to grandchildren, etc. To each their own. Not every product works for each baby/ child so do your research and find out what works best for your baby.
My friend has the Doona, and has been singing its praises to us as we’re expecting our first. But my big question is what do you do if you have a second child that also needs to be in a stroller?
I’m excited to get the Doona this time around (pregnant with my 3rd). My babies were average size, but I’m short (5’3”) and carrying the car seat was painful on my back , especially as the babies gained weight.
SharedTravels I just had my second baby, and I always love Susan‘s videos on newborn essentials. The one thing I would really skip, actually two things, would be the Doona and the magnetic onesies. Too expensive, and there are way more affordable dupes for the Doona. And honestly, the magnetic onesies would be the most essential to have within the first maybe two weeks of bringing the baby home, but then they fall into a routine at night, and a zippered onesie is all you actually need. Way less expensive too.
SharedTravels for $36 you would hope that they last through the millions of washes they’ll go through in a matter of 2 months. Then the baby outgrows that size lol
Hey Susan! Love all your videos. I am having my first baby and planning to fly to my parents when baby is aroun 2,3 months old. Which stroller would you recommend for travelling? I see that Doona is light weight and easy to maneuver but it does not have a bassinet mode. Would it be comfortable for an infant during a long layover ? Appreciate the help.
Just an fyi to everyone that loungers and swings are unsafe to sleep in. You are not going to be able to monitor them close enough to know if they stop breathing. All it takes is a couple minutes for them to die. Most babies wouldn’t let you take them out and continue to sleep in a crib. Babies up to one year need a flat hard surface to sleep on with no blankets or anything extra with them.
I am the husband and it feels I am the one making all the plans and preparations. Thanks for this video. Struggling with buying doona or a 3 in one stroller. We don’t have a car at the moment. Wife is 21 Weeks. Any suggestions?
My first baby is due in 10 days and I got like 14 of those items you listed above! I’m definitely going to try out the routine you have with the lounger/ bouncer/ swing thing and see how it turns out. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Susan! Love your videos! Saw all your baby videos with Nikash to prepare for my first baby (4 months old too like Ayla!!). Wondering when/if you will start sleep training Ayla?? Would love to follow on long your process since it will be your second time around. First time mom here... Sooooo many questions! Thx!!
One thing I use alllll the time is the Honest brand or Maty’s brand balms (the one she showed actually- the Honest Balm) and put it on my daughters cheeks and nose and it prevents that cold cheek burn babies get and helps them from getting red noses too. I use it on her booty too. It’s like Vaseline but not as greasy AND no petroleum. Water wipes are only water and .01% grapefruit oil used as a preservative, so it’s as clean as it can get and they’re sooo wet in compared to other kinds and really make a difference. The other ones that use “aqua” or similar words in their name still have a lot of other ingredients in them.
Oh and the Nose Frieda and a humidifier when they’re sick. You won’t believe how much snot and stuff you can clear out of their nose to help them breathe at night with the Nose Frieda (and NO! You don’t get snot or anything ANYWHERE near your mouth. Hehe, I get this question a lot.)
Dupe for the Doona: Buy any Maxi Cosi car seat and then buy the maxi cosi stroller frame. The car seat clicks into the stroller frame and voila, you have a “Doona”
Meg Weiss agreed, also this product is not approved for sale in certain countries (like Canada) so might as well buy a stroller that you need plus a compatible car seat to click into it.
C C yeah I’m most certainly not trying to hate on it, I just happened to use the maxi cosi system with both kids, and it worked out brilliantly. And I am quite sure that the Doona is probably unnecessarily expensive.
@@Realmeglynn Do you own a car? Maybe that's why it works for you. For those of us who live in the city and/or choose not to own a car something like the Doona that can convert from car seat (for those rare occasions we need to transport baby in a car) to stroller by clicking a button makes sense because we don't have a place (car, trunk of car) to leave the car seat's base at. That is why it's convenient.
I recommend a baby car seat cover that my baby is using. It is very breathable and soft. My baby likes him very much. I recommend it to you. I hope it will help you. amzn.to/31COMoU
Yo! For those of us who suck at swaddling, I’ve found the Ollie swaddle to be a life saver. Unlike the Halo swaddles, your baby won’t grow out of it and it’s just so easy!
Thanks for the video...but back to the bath section...what do you bathe your kids in? Did you use the Petal? Did you buy a special tube? I want to get like a petal, but I hear they are hard to dry and mildew and mold can build up.
Pretty please do a video on baby sunscreen now that it’s getting warmer especially. Which ones do you recommend? How do you recommend cleaning it off their face at the end of the day on both bath and non bath nights?
Hi Susan! It's almost my due date and i'm cramming some of the must-haves. For some reason, I can't help but wonder where this Sweater's from. I clicked the link but it doesn't take me to the actual item. May I know what the brand is? Thanks! :)
We had a lot of babies. Our youngest 3 were 3 sons in one year...one son then twins sons back to back. My favorite stroller is Valco, and nothing beats the Valco twin with toddler seat. The toddler seat is up high, in front of the twins, and that seat he could fit in even at 4 or 5, and tired of walking. It has all terrain wheels and so easy to maneuver. I'm very small, only 5'0, a size 2...I could turn that stroller on a dirt road with 3 toddler in it with only one hand. I loved that stroller. Strollers for 3 are pricier, but it was $1000, and I sold for $600. I was offered more by people, but I had promised to sell to woman already. Good strollers, especially for multiples have great resale value. Worth the investment.

I keep watching these kind of videos, even thought I don't even plan to have a baby. I love see see videos about babies
Totally with you on the onsies/sleepers especially as a mom of 4!
Stephanie A my daughter is 3 years old, If i can keep her in onsies during the day I would have, still she sleeps in them which is perfect
Yessss Doona stroller! Used this when I had my baby and made my friends get it also. They loved it! So easy and convenient!
yuki banez how long does it really last ? I’ve been debating weather to get it or just go with a travel system but don’t wanna spend 200-300 for the doona if it only works for 10 months
@@3759938 Weight limit is until 15kg so really it depends on how will your child like to stay in it when he is bigger. I think. Yes the price is quite up there but it really is worth it!
I am having a baby in April. I find all of your videos so helpful! My husband also enjoys watching and we learn so much. Thank you!
Three of mine are April babies. Great time for birthdays and birthday parties.
Im expecting my first baby in a few DAYS 💟🇲🇽 nesting and shopping the last few items 💙
Congratulations love
Can you do a video of MUST HAVES on what to pack in your hospital bag for newborns?
Omg where have I been last time I ever saw a video of yours your son was like 8 months I believe, and now you had another?!? I’m guessing the reason why I’m back my first son is 2 years old and a couple of months and now I just found out I’m 6 weeks pregnant!! So here I am re watching these videos!! ❤️🔥
My baby often uses Defono brand muslin burp cloths on Amazon, it is soft and absorbent
Honestly God bless you for linking everything in the description box!! Including what you’re wearing :)
This is so helpful! I added like 95% of the items your recommended to my registry. Thank you!!

Helpful hint! Use cornstarch ONLY on her bottom. You will literally never need any rash cream etc ever again. It’s absolutely amazing!
Jessica Elliott-Lawrence May you explain how to use it? When? How often? Make a paste?
We had to start on with bottles because my daughter had a hard time latching. After we figured that out she transitions flawlessly from bottle to nipple. Somedays I just pump and bottle feed, somedays I just nurse. Just depends on what needs to be done that day.
Your videos are always so informative! I will definitely be purchasing most of these items 🤑
Instead of magnetic onesie zippys are really good from bonds which makes life easier at nights. I use bonds zippys it covers hands as well.
I love the boppy lounger!! I bought two so I can use one for my daycare too
I LOVE my doona. The BEST thing ever. I got it with my son and he's almost 1 and we are still using it. I freaking love it so much. We will definitely use it with our next as well!
I checked the amazon reviews on the magnetic onesies, YIKES!
Mona Ha! I didn’t even look. Are they bad? I love them. Personal experience!
ugh i wish I watched this sooner, I stocked on the zipper ones cause it worked with my firstborn
I just saw! Some babies broke out in rashes 😳
I love the magnetic onesies! Best thing ever invented especially during the night it’s so easy for diaper changes.
@@ayanomar1408 if the zip ups work for you, don't have regrets!!!
Cradle cap - use baby oil and a comb. It comes right out
Great video Susan! Those magnetic onesies look like a game-changer!! I don't even have a baby yet, but I love all your baby-related videos :)
The Haakaa electric nail file is great if you're worried about using nail clippers.
I would love to see a newborn/infant skin care video or a review of newborn skincare I’ve noticed the majority of baby products are fragranced...
I don’t have a baby or want one but I love babies and seeing what’s good for them :) love informative videos!
Yay!! I got the doona & baby bjorn bouncer. Due in 5 weeks I’m so excited 😇
breep Enjoy!!
I’m excited to get the Doona this time around (pregnant with my 3rd). My babies were average size, but I’m short (5’3”) and carrying the car seat was painful on my back , especially as the babies gained weight.
omg that doona/car seat is so cool! we are in australia and planning on our 2nd baby, this video was really helpful, i wish we had that here!
Prego with number 2. Needed this. Thanks!
SharedTravels and congratulations! Prayers and love for a healthy and beautiful little brother or sister 💕
@@Realmeglynn I wonder how well the magnetic ones wear over longer time. I imagine they wear out pretty fast.
SharedTravels for $36 you would hope that they last through the millions of washes they’ll go through in a matter of 2 months. Then the baby outgrows that size lol
Me too!
She has so much hair!! I hope my baby has hair when she is born, I’m due in October.
Fun video. You are doing a fab job mama! Beautiful babies. Take care
I just started watching your video and my husband said “is this JLo?” Lol 😂 Such a compliment though!
Kathleen Maguire YES! Haha. I’ll take it.
SUCH a compliment!
Does your husband know that JLo isn't Asian?
She does look like jlo omg
Her voice reminds me of Jlo
Susan I have found this not only helpful but enjoyable! Thank you for sharing this wonderful video!!!
Thx!!
Alejandra Duarte We’ll likely sleep train, I’m just not ready yet. Still enjoying the baby snuggles and feedings, but it’s going to happen soon. 🤗
Your hair looks beautiful girl!
Scrolling youtube I found your channel few months ago . . And am hooked . Watching it for the second time . . . ps- not married not a mom either 😅
Regular coconut oil and a soft bristle baby brush works like a charm for cradle cap
The Bobby Lounger is AMAZING!!
Ugh when babygirl falls asleep on you, I just can’t!
Dupe for the Doona:
Buy any Maxi Cosi car seat and then buy the maxi cosi stroller frame.
That’s what my husband and I did.
I couldn’t stop starting at your hair!! I love it 😍😍
Thanks for the video...but back to the bath section...what do you bathe your kids in? Did you use the Petal? Did you buy a special tube? I want to get like a petal, but I hear they are hard to dry and mildew and mold can build up.
Definitely helpful! Ordering my Doona now!
Thanks! :)
What do you recommended getting a crib, bassinet, or both?
I’m expecting soon!! So this video really helped me on the essential items I need! THANK YOUUU❤️
I would love to see a full review of the doona!
I was distracted by the guys in the white van lol. I wonder what they were loading/unloading.
Me too😂😂😂 I thought I was the only one!!!!
I was so annoyed by them. Imagine if I ran out there and said, “stop! I’m filming!” Haha
Haha I was so amused by it.. the people walking, the car driving.. I was like, ooh, I like her neigbourhood.
I had no issues cutting nails 😂 but the hand covers rock. I agree with all of these
