So I skipped on the FT Hitch when he first came out and preordered this guy( I like to spread the love in my collection and get other companies). Got him in and I like his look a little, but it felt empty. Like it feels like a CHUG. Fast forward a couple of months and ShowZ had Hitch on sale for $99 and I decided to get him to do a verses. Its like night and day on the materials. They both have their pros and cons, but Hitch is now in bot mode in my display and Moist is in alt mode on a shelf with Downbeat and MP21 Bee. I just feel on some of the Takara figures they are getting cheaper and cheaper with materials and still charging that premium MP price.
I've bought practically all the FansToys figures ever put out but I passed on the Trailbreaker and Hoist. Actually, I had the FansToys Trailbreaker and sold it when the Takara came out. Passed on the Hoist altogether as those chrome legs just don't do it for me. If you're into toon, the Takara ones are quite good looking on the shelf.
Fully agreed. Fanstoys Hitch blows this one away. Inexcusable for Takara to not have windows...two other prominent third party companies made it work...c'mon, man! Did anybody notice that Bobby invented a new word: "Mixmatched?" Mismatched with Webster's Dictionary, but undoubtedly soon to be added!

I 100% agree with your critics and I can't understand why, with so much room in the back, the Takara master engineers couldn't find a way to give him a waist swivel and an ab crunch. It took me a bit longer then you but I'm starting to share more and more of your opinion regarding the cartoon accuracy. It's not like I couldn't understand what you where saying or that I didn't agree with it to a certain degree but the sacrifices in sculpt, the less heroic proportions and the more goofy looking bots are starting to get to me too. I'm whiling to take a bit more cartoon accuracy than you (I like the more clean look I don't need lot's of line work) but the original cartoon designs left much to be desired and they should be improved on specially regarding proportions and some detail. Thanks for the review Mr Skullface.
I don't have the same complaints, but I still like FT more, and I'm not even sure why. One of those times all I can say is "I just do." You might be right - it might not be dumpy enough. This and Trailbreaker are rare times I go FT over Takara. Oh, and Skyfire.
Toon or not... the grey plastic makes it look like it was pulled out of a Happy Meal. The only thing that pulls me to it is the accessories/claw/hitch. Maybe if I wanted a Hoist in alt mode... and he was super cheap... maybe, otherwise the review just strengthens how I already feel.
Feels like they shoved this one out the door, just because they had to. Shame, since I really like Hoist. But the lack of a green toy head meant I never would have bought this anyway. I really wish Takara had stuck to finding the nice balance between toon and toy like they used to. :/
I've got the xtb hoist and after a bunch of bits fell of it last time I dared touch it I'm fairly tempted to grab the takara one if it's cheap. Got takara trailbreaker too and I think they work well together

I bought this guy recently at TFconLA. Even tho i already hav the xtb one. I passed on the FansToys one because of the silver legs
