Well, I do think it’s quite a cool work environment. At least based on what we are seeing. Sure, sometimes it’s hard… sometimes he has to put a new roof onto a WRX, but he looks like he is having a lot of fun otherwise! ^^
let me rephrase: "the downs and downs of racing" ;) My friend once told me that in racing it 80% of the times that you fail (for one reason or another) so you need to remember to embrace the 20%
LSD v's Open diff has been tried here in the UK on the Mk3 MR2 and the lap time differences are significant.... like 4 or 5 seconds on a 2 minute lap circuit. Cornering stability especially on the exit is greatly improved, with the open diff even on the 2ZZ engine you can't put the torque down, on the 2AR swap it would just be silly to drive it on an open diff.
Yea ...those CV joints are being asked a lot of in those door-to-door races guys. We strip, clean and rebuild our axles for club circuit racing every other race event(about 4~5 hours of track time; practice, quali, and 3 races) and use Redline CV-2 grease. Good luck next time!
You guys really need to relax and have fun a bit! You remind me of when I started driving, I was so hot tempered and if anything went wrong I made sure everyone, including myself knew it wasn’t my fault. There’s literally no reason to do this and a thousand reasons not to. Complaining is bad for focus, the team, the viewers, the sponsors, etc. The second you get in that seat your job is no longer mechanic, TH-camr, host, or engineer - it’s driver. Just driver. Drive the car, as is, to the best of your abilities. Communicate what the car is doing, but don’t waste brain power on diagnosing. Your coach is right and is being really nice about it. I would be holding you by the helmet and shaking you 😂 I love seeing you guys develop and grow, so keep it up.
Fellas, I trained Soldiers for 12 years or so. The activities are different but the principle mind set is the same. Dump everything you have no use for in your head. Focus on your win for days on end sit and visualize your race. Tunnel your focus into positive performance. The corner you have trouble on, close your eyes and see yourself nail it perfect. It feels silly at first but your mind will go where it's been. It will put you where you put yourself in the day dream. You will instantly know what's happening, you'll know the outcome. It's silly but this is a very solo thing to embrace. What I know for a fact is that no matter what it is your thinking of. The thoughts that occupy your mind the most, is exactly what you become. Scared the police are going to pull you over for your new stancy boy jetta? There they were. It's a sword that cuts both ways, you understand. It's very easy to tunnel negativity, we're hard wired for it. That's why everything looses it's luster after some time. You start noticing the scratch here, little chip there. Force yourself for 5 min before you go to sleep to think about how good tomorrow will be. It's important to do this before you sleep, because that's when your brain is doing all the "programming" for the next day. Enjoy your hard work and enjoy what you do. Find the humor in your sometimes unfortunate life events. You're fantastic both of you, Luke too. Boys just dream a little bit and believe it. You'll be amazed. Promise.
yeah, he is literally driving a car at 60% where mr2 is unstable and snappy, but if he would go to at leaast 85% of big D energy (funny reference xD) the mr2 will show that there are no limits for the spyder if the driver is prepared. And let me be honest. Tall Ben is prepared AF after driving this thing in this crazy setup :D
I must say this as been 1 of the most exciting episodes lol. I so want that MR2 to succeed...Cody Cody Cody, you the man bro!! My saturday has been mad. THANK YOU
I love the positivity between the team the whole time, especially the comment for Mark… “Then what’s the rush? There is no rush, the man’s just a superstar!” Just keep pushing, you’ll get ‘em!
I just want to say as a professional videographer/photographer and life-long car enthusiast, I absolutely love your videos. High production value, good storytelling, and great characters. This is beyond the quality of what you even see on TV (in my opinion) and feel more like a netflix or prime series. Great shit guys!
I’ve had that happen on my MR2S also after I installed suspension and messed with the geometry. Went through three axles. What I ended up doing is throwing in a celica axle since they’re a little longer and has been running good ever since
Are upgraded axles allowed in your classes? Also, we need to get these boys sponsored by ignite and get them some drums of E85 or E90 to have with them.
with all the mods there allowed to do it would be kind of dumb to limit a reliability upgrade but thare both running engine swaps so they would kinda already need to be allowed to upgraded them to run a swap. but im just gessing here
"Spinning ain't winning" seems like an appropriate saying right about now. Can you imagine the pressure of wanting to get on the throttle asap because of competition pressuring you but also having to wait until the rear is stable before flooring it... Man, talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place...
Whoever is behind the camera work and slow mo needs a raise. Killing it. 🔥 Loving the series, drama and all. Good work all round to the team at Gears n Gasoline.
"DO BETTER" 😅😅.... That is verbatim what my gf yells at me when I'm sucking at putt-putt or other menial activities. Your entire team is the best. The way y'all talk each other up and push the others is great. You guys got this. What a journey this will be to tell at the end (a long long way off). I will be along for the ride EVERY step of the way!!
I want to put how slow Ben's MRS is in perspective. An NB NASA Spec Miata with a stock 1.8L running a restrictor plate with no aero ran 1:03.4 this year. A car that has maybe 120whp at best. The issue has never been power, it has been balance and while Ben is commited to the 2AR the car will never have that.
Love this. You guys did your best. I can't wait to see the improvements and the progress. This is shot like a movie, the production and quality is unmatched.
Ben i think why the Evo was an instant gratification was because there was a recipe already it was almost like copy and paste, adding better quality parts and some fine tuning it was a rocket ship but with the Toyota MR2 its like you trying to figure out what flavour you want the MR2 to be. You’ll get there, you’ll eventually figure out what the MR2 needs to go fast. I reckon better diff and some rear downforce will shoot you out those corners. Love the content btw!!! Cheers 🍻
Watching you fellas go from goofy kids to damn fine young men on here has been given me hope for the younger generation of car enthusiast....THANK YOU GUYS...AND KEEP KICKING ASS!!🙏🇺🇲👍💯
You could put the whole GLTC era into one film some day. Races, improvements, track side fixes, etc… It would be really similar to Ford v Ferrari based on what I am seeing at this moment. That would be so unbelievably cool!
I was really sad to see the cars break down, but I'm happy I got to see them in action, in-person! I really wish you guys the best next year, and I hope you can defeat the curse and enjoy the track and its beauty.
Great episode guys! I really enjoyed watching this. Good luck next race! Way to show what it's like racing Gridlife. Looks like an emotional rollercoaster 🎢
@@zerohikari2685 Untrue, the swap doesn't add significant weight and they run a lot of ballast in the centre of the car. In the passenger footwell. It's just an issue of the car being mid-engined and having a short wheelbase. It is naturally unstable and the best way to fix this at high speed is with aero. The only downside is that the class rules punish aero users
@@ericsson_motorsports MRS doesn't have a short wheel base and the 2AR is significantly heavier and taller than the ZZ. The ballest is empty as you can see in the videos and they even documented it handled better with it because of weight balance with the ballest. All these issues with MRS balance have been documented for YEARS. You're just another guy that doesn't know anything about MR2s posting BS.
May have been a bummer on the weekend for you both, but this may be one of your best done racing videos yet. Supremely enjoyable to watch! Hopefully the cars get sorted out for the next one.
Had to check my URL bar.....no, Im not on Netflix..... But your content should! Thank you for the entertainment, this will be shared with all of my friends
Loving the series. I have a Spyder with a LSD put that Toyota had in the later series Spyders I can now take corners much more confidently. Probably repeating what’s already known but I want to see that Civic beat by the Spyder so bad.
@gearsandgasoline The looseness on the mr2 is coming from the open diff, as it goes through a corner and unloads the inside wheel the inside wheel spins faster and the outside wheel acts like it's on a tripod so it rotates. Put an lsd or a locked diff in it
Hello! I am really curious to understand what is the Hardware/software that is used to analyse the racing data with the cabin view like seen at 16:50 . the time stamp will give more information then the mouthful of the phrase before hahah. Thanks for any help!
I really like the shots of Coby and Mark watching each session and talking to each other as it goes on!
its like those mic'd up in NBA hehe
@@hungryalien Except this is WAY cooler than NBA, NFL, Football leagues, baseball etc etc. I'd say it's more on PAR with Golf 😉
Mark is questioning his life choices 😂
LOL, wouldn't you be? LOL
Living the dream. Hes not there for free
Well, I do think it’s quite a cool work environment. At least based on what we are seeing.

Best series on youtube. The ups and downs of racing, letting us live vicariously through ya'll.

The way that civic came around the corner at 4:00 good god 🔥🔥🔥

That was so sick

What's wild is, when the MR-S gets sorted, Ben is prolly gonna fly in that thing. He's going over a "mini-Initial Drift plotline" with this thing.

Upgraded axles are open and allowed in gltc

Best camera shots on TH-cam! G&G rocks!

5:19 i wish my da9 integra was that nice to be on track, im hopefully going to start tracking it sometime.
3:58 dang that’s definitely a poster
Lin is progressing so well. Keep your head up and don't be so hard on yourself in the moment. You're a great driver and it'll pay off!
That MR2 desperately needs a wing and front aero to balance it.
Thats what im saying Techno Spirits MRS runs the perfect balance for that car
That comes with a huge weight penalty in GLTC racing though, the rules punish you for having aero
It's not the aero so much as the weight balance. Rear is just too heavy with the engine swap.

loved the mr2-Civic-Miata battle-carousel thing, MR, FF and FR all tight and fighting, noiiiice
Honestly with Thorn's fast hands and ability to save it in a slide, I feel like he'd do damn well in drift comps haha!
Love the continuation of the track suit, drinks in despair scene from last Lime Rock track day. except Thorn was there to join him this time 😂
"my ex got me this track suit" 😂😂😂 love it brotha! Keep up the great work!!!
0:11 there's a pt cruiser.... I've been waiting forever to see one on this channel
Really great episode! Bummer about the axles. Coby gave some good advice and was a nice balance to the frustation you guys were feeling.

I love watching you guys! Keep it up. 🎉
All this experience racing an undrivable car is gonna make Ben Lin an absolute monster to deal with the moment the MR2 is competitive
Laguna Seca in Monterey, Ca.?
When is that race? I'd love to attend and help you all out.
Short Ben: "Can't wait for the big one" #thatswhatshesaid
Love the editing and music. I look forward to the next epiosde/adventure! Good luck in the next race!

this GLTC series is the best series you've ever done, hands down
The video and editing was very well put together..well done
Can't wait to see that mr-s once its had its little things sorted!!
What an exciting race. 👍🏻
That civic power slide though! 😮
He's 100% right don't worry about power and work on racing what you have. Mabey in the civic the rim size put more pressure on the axle
I love how ben is just drifting that ek bening fwd
Breaking axles - FWD life! Better drivetrain fuse than a diff or transmission though...
I am still amazed by Ben Lin driving a 2AR MR2 with open diff.
I see them Yuenglings!
