I bought a 2021Corolla hybrid w/ blind spot monitor. I've had it for about 3 weeks and LOVE the car. It has decent acceleration for a hybrid, is pretty comfortable, and best of all, I'm averaging 63.7 mpg!!!! I'm a mobile dog trainer and do a lot of driving. Well worth the money.
For about $3000 over a Corolla LE, you get the hybrid system plus the the electronic center gauge cluster, smart key entry with push button start and alloy wheels instead of steel wheels under the hubcaps. You also get lower maintenance costs since it barely uses the brake pads and has no belts (no fan belts or other engine belts, no CVT belts etc.). You obviously save a lot on fuel, have a much longer driving distance between fuel stops and get significantly quicker low speed acceleration from a stop. The more you drive on stop and go surface streets, the more benefits you will get get in brake pad savings, better fuel economy and acceleration vs the gas version LE. Plus you should get some of that extra $3000 back at resale time especially if selling with some of the 10 year 150K mile hybrid warranty remaining. No warranty coverage of any kind left on gas Corolla past 5 years, 60K mikes unless you paid extra for an extended warranty.
I just got this guy, my first car that is fully my own, and could not be happier with it. Most of my driving is in stop and go traffic. I forgot the last time I filled up. :P

got the 2021 hybrid and absolutely love it. currently getting 55.5mpg. came from an 06 Acura Tl. I miss the heft and wider wheelbase. the corolla is a little squirrelly steering compared to the Tl. could just be differences in the power steering systems. all in all though zero regrets going hybrid. had to fill up the Acura twice a week with premium fuel, down to once a month with regular. what a ridiculous savings
You missed the 3 driving modes, Standard, ECO, & Power. I'm getting 60mpg if I drive using the eco computer. In EV mode, you can top out at 150mpg! EV acceleration also reacts differently depending on which mode your in. The AC also has 2 modes. This car runs so cool that I found myself in 90° weather with just the fan on. I'm super pleased with this car. If you can't get laid in this car, it's because you have a "small" personality!
11:55 Just so people know, the U.S. model 2021 Corolla Hybrid does NOT include a spare tire. It has a fix-a-flat sealant/compressor kit. Someone creative figured out there's enough space to fit a full size spare tire after you remove all of that foam under the carpet... Oddity is that the Canadian model does come with a spare tire.
This is my first brand new car- and coming from a 2005 Ford Escape, man this thing is godly. Maybe not as many features as more expensive trims but definitely updated features for 2021- especially the cruise control that helps keep you in the lane and distances from other cars. It feels like 70% Tesla at times. I drive a lot and have stop&go traffic at least once a week. With my escape? Filling up twice a week easily and won’t make unnecessary trips downtown (San Diego), but in this Corolla? I OFFER to pick up my friends food orders just to drive it and keep going everywhere. I’m down a quarter of a tank (haven’t filled it since I got it) @ 200 miles- mostly highway. I’m already saving money and that’s really what I wanted
In Europe the Corolla Hybrid is available as a sedan like this, a hatchback like a VW Golf, and a wagon. Where I live the wagon is also available as a 2-liter hybrid that has 180 hp, and that gets to 100 kph in about 8 seconds. The car is hugely popular, especially the wagon version, so the waiting time for a new sedan with typical options is about 14 weeks in my area.
Not sure why hybrid reserved for only a base model - but it really is a great value for someone seeking super eco & reliable transportation like a long distance commuter to & from work everyday. I’m always impressed by the variety of reviews you guys do; there are so many consumer markets in car world, & you cover so many of them! Great work & a good review even for the “sensible shoe” of cars! (Love the continuing run with the coupons!!)
The warranty for the battery is 100,000 miles -which seems like a lot- but on a regular Toyota that's just getting it broken in. I bet its expensive to replace.
I bought this car specifically for rideshare. It is my rolling lemonade stand. The mileage is real and seems like a bigger car than it is. I tend to drive my cars to 250K. With with this car after 100,000 miles, I will know I made about $100,000 minus gas, ins and payment which total less than .18 per mile.
I've had mine for two months now. I bought it for the insane gas mileage. Not disappointed. Getting 55mpg around town. I find it comfortable. I would have liked a moon roof and heated seats. But hey. 55mpg! Oh, guys, ditch the coupons. All those coupons are available on an app!😂
I guess it's a bit weird they only offer it in LE trim. OTOH, some people want a hybrid and can't afford top trims so this might be good for some. Nice video guys! :D
I get around 55-57 mpg. I drive 160 miles a day. About 98% highway. 62mph is the sweet spot on Cruise control. The engine turns off and uses the hybrid mode when it’s level ground or down hill. When not using cruise control you can use the electric motor alone with the engine off up to 70 mph BUT you have to be progressive with the gas pedal. I bought mine in July 2021, I already have 15,000 miles! No regrets. I get about 550 miles per tank. Only has a 10 gallon gas tank.

Major News Flash: I drove about 8900 miles in the 4 months of ownership and I average 61 mpg.

J High This car beats the Honda Insight in almost every way. Price, MPG, Styling, Interior styling, reliability, the infotainment system, and much more! I would take this Corolla over the Insight all day.
Really wish they offered the hatchback in a hybrid as well. With a lease payment of $179/mo I will have to check this out in October when my current lease is up. I'm not excited about most the cars out there right now, so this may be a decent car to drive for a few years and save a bunch of money every month.
That radio does not sound bad for a base system. How was it driving with the urethane wheel without leather? My only concern with urethane would be that it would be rough to the touch and therefore unpleasant to steer with. One other notable change which I liked was that in 2020 you could not get Satellite radio in the Corolla Hybrid. That was added for 2021. One thing I had heard though not confirmed but makes sense when you think about it. Apparently Toyota did not want cannibalize sales from it's Prius by offering a more upmarket Corolla also in Hybrid. Would be nice to be able to option in the JBL system or native NAV but as you said full smartphone integration is available and the base radio sounds much better than I was expecting.
The regular Gas power LE is $3000 cheaper. That'll buy over 1000 gallons of gas. It'll be over 40,000 miles before the hybrid saves You any money on fuel. Plus the hybrid is slower.
Had a 3rd gen Prius, now a 4th gen...a much better car, in fact, the most enjoyable car/m/c I have owned for several years. The hatch is the reason I would NOT consider a Corolla. Thanks.

I need your opinion, please. I have never had a hybrid and I don't have access to outside power for EV only. I am primarily interested in the electric motor torque. Between the Corolla, Insight, Sonata, Accord and Camry, which one provides the greatest torque at start? I know Honda uses EV to power the car and the gas engine charges the battery. Is that felt in the take off more than the Corolla? Does the Sonata provide the more comfortable ride and still deliver off the line power? How would you actually compare these cars? If you already have a video, please direct me.
I'm hoping that Toyota will make a Corolla Hybrid SE or XSE trim to.make it look better just like what they have on a Camry Hybrid. The wheels on this Corolla are a big turn off for me but overall it looks great.
One question: at 11.59 mins you mention a spare tire. Toyota web site does not show a spare include with the hybrid model. Many hybrid cars instead offer a flat fix kit instead. Which is correct?
How quickly is this engine going to burn oil by cranking up to a high rmp from cold because the electric means I can't warm it up in the morning. Can you warm up the engine or is it just electric motor and then the engine cranks up cold? 😅 If kinda like to be able to warm the engine up a bit before I have to mash the gas you know?
Reviewers keep getting this wrong. It’s not a CVT and you guys should be able to explain that to your viewers. The term “e-CVT” is marketing for simple-minded people. Toyota’s hybrid drive has never been a CVT. It’s a dual motor generator connected to a planetary gear set that acts as a transmission. There’s no pulley and belt system. It acts more like a direct drive EV, much like Honda’s hybrid drivetrain.
Strange marketing. Toyota was finally smart enough to offer a hybrid in Camry XSE trim, yet in the Corolla, they only offer it in the bland-looking LE trim.
I am thinking that would effectively be a Prius, so they may not bother (they are about the crane size, etc.). Also since the Corolla brand does not have a hatchback model, at least in the NA region...
It’s because the engine turned on when he shifted out of park or it’s a sound so people hear it, and when he shifted back to park the park brake engaged
Please confirm if there is a spare tire "under there". What you showed looked like one of those joke goop tire repair kits. There was no jack evident. My understanding is a spare is not even an option in the USA unlike Canada where sensible Canandians make it standard.
Yes, I'm am 6' 5" myself, the seat lowered all the way down, and slid back, with the steering wheel all the way out and some bit down, the head gap from the headliner is about an inch from my head, I fit comfortable, so I would say you could too, I hope this helps
Just a word of note. Even though the hybrid has lower HP on paper vs the gas version, it is actually faster off of the line than the standard Corolla with the 1.8l. The electric motors help with the torque to get a better off the line acceleration. You can see this in action in this review video that shows the two compared in off the line acceleration: th-cam.com/video/HwWXxxdmtYs/w-d-xo.html Toyota does make the Corolla Hybrid in multiple trims. The problem is that those other trims are not available to the US market. If you look at the UK/EU Toyota website, you'll find Corolla Sedan Hybrid, Corolla Hatch Hybrid, and Corolla Sport Touring Hybrid (looks like a station wagon), with multiple trims in each version. Why they aren't letting the US market have those other versions may have to do with the typical US mindset that seems to be more focused on SUVs and crossovers. This mindset has become so strong in the US that the US manufacturers have drastically reduced their lineups of cars with Ford only having the Mustang for a car with the rest of their lineup being all SUVs and trucks. Chevy isn't much different with their lineup either.

Generally, in cold weather the engine fires up at initial start up because it needs to warm up the cabin
You're misleading! Corolla hybrid has no CVT. It has a planetary gear. Non-hybrid Corolla has CVT.
We are aware, but in practice it has the exact same effect as driving a CVT...which is why Toyota themselves refer to it as eCVT
It being 2021 any base model car is fine . AC ,smooth ride and back up Camera. What more do you really need ?
Reviewers keep getting this wrong. It’s not a CVT and you guys should be able to explain that to your viewers. The term “e-CVT” is marketing for simple-minded people. Toyota’s hybrid drive has never been a CVT. It’s a dual motor generator connected to a planetary gear set that acts as a transmission. There’s no pulley and belt system. It acts more like a direct drive EV, much like Honda’s hybrid drivetrain.
BUT, in effect, it feels exactly like a CVT which is why Toyota calls it that and everyone describes it as such
no 2021 corolla hybrid with blind spot monitor is available in chicago area.I was at the dealer today and they found only one in whole region.
There is no spare tire just so you know!
Your so close to 200k
Hopefully we get there soon!!
It's sad that young adults rather buy a 50k gas car to later make excuses that the gas prices are keeping them broke
I can't imagine there are old school bulbs for the tail lights! what in the heck?
Does it has android Auto ?
Strange marketing. Toyota was finally smart enough to offer a hybrid in Camry XSE trim, yet in the Corolla, they only offer it in the bland-looking LE trim.
I want the 2021 Corolla Hybrid. 🙂
Do they make this Hybrid Corolla in a Hatchback? Good review.
I am thinking that would effectively be a Prius, so they may not bother (they are about the crane size, etc.). Also since the Corolla brand does not have a hatchback model, at least in the NA region...
SomeLaveenGuy : Oh, corrected indeed, I have not seen that before; they used to have the Matrix instead.
A SUV Corolla is coming to America. th-cam.com/video/4w63-_oj3vs/w-d-xo.html
They do it in EU.
Does the car make a noise when you put it into reverse? I thought i heard something
It’s because the engine turned on when he shifted out of park or it’s a sound so people hear it, and when he shifted back to park the park brake engaged
It would of the engine wasn't running
Albert Vathapally mine is dead quiet in reverse
I like how halfway through of the video he shaved and changed clothes🙄🙈
😂
No spare tire or donut...fix that error!!!
Can you guys show the window sticker in the future
The pricing at the end, is exactly what the sticker says. We usually can't get a good photo of the sticker due to reflections and stuff
Thanks for video. Please add metric dimensions 🙏
For Uber this is perfect,
I wish they would’ve put the 2.0 L instead of the 1.8L.
I’m sorry, where was the LED tail lamps?
Please confirm if there is a spare tire "under there". What you showed looked like one of those joke goop tire repair kits. There was no jack evident. My understanding is a spare is not even an option in the USA unlike Canada where sensible Canandians make it standard.
It's a fix a flat kit to keep weight down
then maybe you should correct the erroneous information in your video.
My dad as an Toyota Corolla hybrid
It should have 16 inch wheels though, 15 inches are too small for a car that size. Will there be a Sports edition of the Corolla hybrid?
15in tires are cheap to buy new
Im thinking of getting one !
Just got mine last week. It's a basic reliable car. Simple.
How much is this car
they just quoted me for one celestite color out the door 26k . is this a good deal ? california here
Hi where in California are you getting 26k OTD?? Every dealership I went to is quoting 28k
Does the 2021 Toyota Corolla hybrid has floor mat for Front and passenger? Dealer told me that I have to pay
They always add floor mats on the sticker for a couple hundred bucks
Im 6 ft 5 in tall will this car be a good fit for me? I need a car with enough leg room for someone like me
Yes, I'm am 6' 5" myself, the seat lowered all the way down, and slid back, with the steering wheel all the way out and some bit down, the head gap from the headliner is about an inch from my head, I fit comfortable, so I would say you could too, I hope this helps
Just a word of note. Even though the hybrid has lower HP on paper vs the gas version, it is actually faster off of the line than the standard Corolla with the 1.8l. The electric motors help with the torque to get a better off the line acceleration. You can see this in action in this review video that shows the two compared in off the line acceleration: th-cam.com/video/HwWXxxdmtYs/w-d-xo.html
Toyota does make the Corolla Hybrid in multiple trims.
Corolla looks better than prius sadly they deliberately made it do worse than prius and you even can't get a higher trim.
My dads fav car lol he won’t get past this car haha 😂 even if u offer him millions. Corolla hybrid is like his dream come tru, he’s in his 60s
I just bought one at 64!
@@7thsoneli 🎉 congrats , I could tell you like your Corolla hybrid as well...
@@FrontalPandora7 old tightwads love a stealthy car, that prius is one ugly car, mine looks like a corolla!
