@Dave WA ??? China is Nr.1 at almost everything, not because they are so good but because they have a large population to support growth. If the list goes per capita, countries like Germany, Denmark or Austria would place first in almost everything. Go for example GDP: China is first, but if you go GDP per Capita, top 5 countries are all european first world countries.

That's bcuz of their socialist ideologies. China builds infrastructure without thinking whether it will be profitable to the government. As long as it's advancements, they just do it. Where do they get the money from? Well their economic plan revolves around savings. Most earnings by their citizens are saved in banks and then the gov can just borrow these funds to build stuffs, buy US debt or invest in their silk road plan. US on the other hand is capitalist and their economic plans revolve more around spending. They do care if the gov earns a profit on these big plans which is why china is leading in so many things now.

should be noted virtually no measure matters since windmills and solar is now far more efficient then in the 2000's. just like today will be peanuts in 2030. Germany does quite well with 80m compared to china 1200m and usa 320m.

I had no idea that my country was doing so well in the 60s and I am really asking myself how this was possible. It could be that one big contribution was due to geothermal energy (I am specifically thinking about Larderello, which was an important site back then and it is still active today), but to be honest I am speculating, I really don't know why Italy was on the top.
